What backpacks for kids in the tween age are the best out there for having good support. I saw in Costco today the High Sierra brand and have pretty good padding on the shoulder straps and back area but not sure if they are the "best" out there. They were $15.99

Not sure if they're the "best", but we've always liked Lands End backpacks. Nice padded, adjustable straps and the backpacks last forever. They're a little more expensive, but you will get many years out of them. My son's backpack lasted from 1st grade through 8th grade! :thumbsup2

For ages 10 and up, they are about $35- $50, $60 for wheeled:

Lands End frequently offers free shipping and sometimes has deals on backpacks.

You may want to check LL Bean too. They've had some pretty good deals lately.

I second the LLBean ones..thats what my DS15 has..
my DD13 has Northface..its good also but more expensive

I also would also highly recommend LL Bean. You can't go wrong with them plus they have a 100% total satisfaction guarantee so you can return anything at anytime if you become unhappy with it.

I concur...go with LL Bean. The backpacks are durable, colorful, and come with a satisfaction guarantee. We live in Freeport Maine, home of LL Bean and the company is truly a good corporate citizen. Our kids always have BEAN backpacks.

My DS has had the same Jansport backpack since 4th grade and it amazingly still looks brand new. He used to go through 2 per year. I got him the one with the gel waffle looking straps and even when it is full he says it doesn't bother his back.

HTH

Are you looking for school backpacks or backpacking backpacks?

Ditto on the Jansport. They last and last. :thumbsup2 I've been buying them since high school. The only reason I got rid of it was I was not in school and didn't use it much so when I moved it was one thing to go.

I have bought my dd 2 other "disney" bags for K and then 1st don't think either were official Disney products but they seem to have held up. I think in August I'll get her a Jansport if she finds one she likes and try to sway her from "character" backpacks. Anyway I'm a huge fan of their bags.

my DD used the High Sierra one from Costco for 6th grade and it held up great. She carried it around all day for the entire year and her books were quite heavy. No rips and she plans to use it again next year.

I bought pottery barn back packs 3 years ago.:sad2: They didn't even make it to the end of the school year. I was out looking for a cheap back pack about 3/4 of the way through the school year. I was very disappointed. Plus, they cost me a fortune.

2 years ago we order Lands End back pack and lunch boxes. :thumbsup2I loved them. They made it through the whole school year! With my DS that is amazing!

I have purchased both the LL Bean and Lands End and I have to say we prefer the Lands End ones. They are constructed just was well as the LL Bean but they seems to have more extras and more padding than the LL Bean. Both LL Bean and Lands End have the same satisfaction guarantee. Returns are also super easy with Lands End, you can bring it to any Sears store.

If you're looking for something that will last many years, I'd go with a high-quality outdoor pack, in a kid's size.

My cousins (9 and 12) have this pack and have used it for school and hiking for 3 years each and they still look like new:

My DH and I only buy Osprey packs for hiking (as in, multiple day hikes where you pack in all your gear) because they are tough as nails and the most comfortable backpacks out there.
