Planning out first trip to WDW for the last week of October. With a 6-yr old girl and 11-yr old boy...(along with raising the hubby!) I'm thinking I need to carry a backpack. For those of you that do...what brand/type did you buy? I don't want something schleppy...but I don't want to look like I'm about to climb Everest either!

What say you? :confused3

I took a backback on our Dec. trip because of the temp changes; however, make sure it has good straps. I got a cute one at Target (pink) but it has a thin strap. After a day in the park, my back and shoulders were sore. I am not taking a backback this April or July! My back got too hot!

I looked long and hard for the perfect travel backpack. I bought lots of smallish travel ones, hoping to find the right one. We went to Mexico in December and I needed a bigger backpack at the last minute, so I took -- of all things -- my daughter's old Winnie the Pooh backpack that she had in kindergarten! It was still like brand new (I challenge ANYONE to wear one of those things out! :) )

It worked so well in Mexico that I took it to WDW last weekend and had no problems whatsoever.

Moral of the story -- don't rule out a school backpack.

Enjoy your trip!

We just went on our first trip in December. My kids are 7, 11, 13. I had also figured I would carry a backpack into the parks. It turns out that I never used it. We didn't take juice or snacks with us; just bought it at the parks. The kids wore t-shirts and sweatshirts and occassionally they took off the sweatshirts, and either they or I carried them. I gave everyone a rain poncho (still folded up) to put in their back pocket. I carried my small camera bag. We just didn't need the backpack, and I'm glad we didn't - it was nice to not have to wait in the bag search line, and it was nice to have my hands free and not worry about lugging the backpack around. Just my 2 cents.

Some people think they're a little pricey, but I have two and I think they're great, have you looked at The North Face backpacks? They have tons of storage pockets and containers and also have straps that can strap your chest or your hips to relieve some of the pressures of a heavy backpack. Almost everyone I know has one of these bags and LOVES it. If you're looking to invest in a good backpack, that's comfy and durable, I'd suggest a North Face. Also, look on ebags.com, they have great deals on backpacks, luggage, pretty much any bag you could ever need. :thumbsup2 Hope that gave you some ideas!

3 years ago I found a clear plastic backpack on clearance. I paid $1 or $2 for it and my husband thought it was awful until we took it to WDW. Security checks were a breeze - everything is visible and we had many positive comments from the bag check CMs.
An added plus is that there was no more digging through the backpack to find something - we could easily see where the item was.

Went to the parks last week. I wore a sling back pack. One strap that goes across your body. Kept it on all the time. I would just twist it around to the front when we rode the rides. The only problem I could see would be being big chested. I'm not.

I am going to use an Old Navy backpack, I got on sale for $3. Since we will have a stroller, I won't have to carry it too much.

We just bought one at Target. I like that it had 2 compartments instead of 1 big one. I saw some cool one at Container Store the other day but pricier.

Keep in mind, the more compartments, the longer you will take to go through security! ::yes::

Backpack. We got one in Hawaii that I use frequently. Bright to the point of being obnoctious... it's tough to leave it behind anywhere because of the glow it seems to radiate... If anyone would ever attempt to swipe it, they could be spotted from a mile away. You get the idea.
