If I use a backpack or other bag in the parks to carry my family's stuff, will I be able to take it on rides with me, or will it be a problem? I'm sure this won't be a problem on smaller rides, but I'm curious about some of the larger attractions (like R'nR). If anyone has any experience, please share!

My husband uses a backpack, which also has a spot for our DSLR camera, and had no issue on rides. Though I did carry the bag when he went on Splash Mountain solo (our son, then 4, was too small). He managed to tuck it in between his legs at every other ride. A traditional "school" sized backpack.

Just put your leg through one of the arm straps with the bag between your legs and off you go.

We take our backpack on everything. We have a diaper bag thats in the form of a back pack and then my older son has a smaller backpack that he keeps his stuff in like souvenirs, his autograph books, his hat, and sunglasses, and other miscellaneous stuff.

My bag, no matter the size or style has always gone on the ride with me. If it is a bigger bag, I do usually put it in the floor and put my foot through the handle. This is not so much that it will fall out, but so I do not forget it.

I will say that on a ride that might soak my bag, such as Kali at AK, I might consider using a locker for that time frame.

I carry a backpack and take it on all rides. It's fairly small and I don't overstuff it so it even fits in the basket for Soarin'. If you can't fit it in the basket under the seat for Soarin' a cast member will take it for you. Other than Soarin' I can't think of any ride it would be an issue for.

Invest in a clear vinyl bag. It's security-friendly, dirt-proof, and water-proof. (especially on water rides like Kali)

I use to have a school backpack that I carried camera gear in at the parks (tripod included); I never had issues with it sitting on the floor between my legs (like Zimbing, I habitually put a leg through a strap just in case). However, last year I upgraded to an actual camera bag (LowePro). There are a few rides that your bag could potentially have a tight squeeze on (depends on the size of the bag... and you... I'm a big guy so it can get a little cramped in there :P) but I had a tight space on 7DMT, Space Mountain, that cubby on Mission:Space and I think I managed to cram it under the seat on Soarin'. Those rides can have a tight squeeze for a bag, but they are all are still do-able. You should be fine. :-)

Backpacks are fine on all attractions but I do have to ask. Is one person carrying everyone elses' stuff? Not sure of your family's size but you could shift some things around and have each person carry a small thing (even a waist pack) for their own items that they would constantly need. That would free up having each person asking the "pack mule" for the items. It's also a bit difficult for a large backpack to be comfortable carrying around each day.

Just observations, not anything else.

Also - for Kali River Rapids, where there is a semi-waterproof holder in the middle of the raft which tends to get full, there are free lockers before you board (actually a bit before you board) where you can store the backpack for a few hours so you don't have to try and find a space for it in that middle section.

I usually carry a rather large ACU 3-day pack that I carried during deployment and I could take it on everything I rode. It was a tight squeeze on RR and SM but other than that, I didn't have any issues.
