backpack or shoulder bag?

I'm going on a field trip tomorrow-5 am to 10 pm, a lot of the day riding on bus and train. I'll need a bag to hold my lunch, water, snacks and other small things. Once I eat my lunch and drink the water the bag will be pretty light. I have an LL Bean day pack and a Travelon small messenger bag (like a Baggalini but it was $6!). I never carry a bag bigger than my purse, so I don't know what would be more comfortable to carry all day. I don't even bring a bag into WDW. Thoughts?

I would go for the shoulder bag, and oh my that is a lonnnnnnnnnnng field trip

Reminds me of when we did a Grand Canyon Bus Tour, I was glad I had my backpack.
