The other thread on the fanny packs got me wondering, what's more comfortable and easier on the back? Fanny packs or Backpacks. I've never worn either before. Any opinions?
Thanks.

depends on your situation.

I have a bad back and a heavy fanny pack tends to cause
me to lean forward more and adds weight to my tummy increasing
my back pain. HOwever , a back pack if too heavy is just as
bad.

I am woman and use a sling purse and it works great. It is
on my side and I keep it only filled with necessities...

you could experiment at the malls with the different styles.

I have a lightweight backpack that I just love. Perfect for the parks, and I paid less than $10 for it at Meijer last year. :D

I use both. In the backpack, I keep ponchos and other large items we might need and in the fanny pack, I keep a digital camera and park pass and put the receipts from the day.

I typically carry a fanny pack but I usually carry it over my shoulder. I like the size of a knapsack but I know if I carried one I would just pack it full of stuff I wouldn't really need which means that it could get really heavy by the end of the day. Of course if you have kids then you might need that space to carry stuff for them.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll go with a small backpack and dh will use a fanny pack that he already owns. With our 3 young children in tow, the challenge will be to resist overpacking them - not to mention the clunky SLR and camera bag that I insist on carting around (which is a whole other obsession) :p
I am going to check out the sling bags too before we go.
