Backlot Tour to Permanently Close

Yes it's been on the cards for a long time. However given the rate in which Disney likes to invest it will most likely be 4-5 years before something really exciting happens.

Now if they close Lights Motor Action too (and most of Streets of America) there's a prime location to extend Pixar Place into something worthy of the name.
(And Radiator Springs Racers would fit nicely into the space...)

With American Idol closed too, that leaves Indy as the only thing preventing that side of the park becoming entirely Star Wars.

Exciting (if frustrating) times!

that's A LOT of HS that is going soon....Given time its going to be a totally different place with only the ToT area staying the same. Looking forward to change but they need to get their finger out as at this rate there won't be much going there for..:)

Hopefully they learn to put a bit of speed to these projects. That's a lot of stuff to shut down. Not saying that its time for these attractions to go and have something new put in, but they better have a plan and act fast if they are going to do it. They will kill HS if they leave that many attractions shut down and empty for a long while.

Of course they have a plan, this IS Disney we're talking about! The rumour mill has been working for quite a while on this now, and I'm sure the powers that be know exactly why they're doing. They are experts on building up the tension before they reveal their full plans.Sure this may cause an inconvienience for some and upset some die hards to the attractions that will close, but Disney never stands still and IMHO what ever is coming and how ever long it takes, I'm sure it will be Magical:goodvibes

No one doubts Disney has a plan, the problem is it'll be based on spreading the build costs over many, many years so they open things reeeeeaaaaallllly slooooooowly.

Think how they did New Adventureland - what was that 4-5 years?

Annoyingly my phone won't let me see the link :(

Anyway - I did notice that WDW is now really behind Universal in terms of technology and innovention. The two aren't really comparable as they are now so different, but IoA and US blew us away!

Development can only be a good thing (although I still love all the classics at WDW) :)

I was commenting on the PP(should have linked it I suppose to be clear) Toontown closed 2011and the New Fantasy Land started opening in stages in 2012 with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opening 2014.

Crazy times for sure at HS. I only commented the other day that we wouldn't have much to do there next year at this rate - and now more announcements! I also read over on the main board that Honey I Shrunk playground and Mike & Sully meet and great may go also during this process.

Now, I just hope they're planning on moving Mike & Sully to a new location and not removing them all together if this is proven to be true. I'm yet to catch those two and a want a hug from Sully! :rotfl:

I'd be sad to see the playground go too, as I was banking on this for my 3 year old next year to let off some steam...I guess only time will tell!

But like many have said, I hope they progress things as quickly as they possibly can, not taking an obscene amount of time over things. I know it takes time to develop these brilliant new areas, but sometimes it's just too long.

I heard this too along with moving Oaken Trading Post to make way for a third track on Toy Story Mania.Nothing confirmed yet though, just more rumours!!

Okay so it only took them THREE years from the closing of a major area to the opening of the one and only E Ticket ride - a full EIGHT years after opening their last major ride. Go Disney!

The point is this is going to take a looooong time and their most recent project (New Fantasyland) left a lot of people thoroughly underwhelmed.
