I will be taking pictures at my dad's 80th birthday. I would like to take some portraits since many family members will be there and all dressed up!

For those of you that do studio stuff, any recommendation on a collapsible one. Any suggestion on your favorite color? I have looked at Lastolite and Botero.

Thanks in advance for your input.

collapsible will limit you in size as far as any larger group photos..

have you considered a 10x20 muslin with a portable background support..

Look at the Savage Port-a-Stand. It's cheaper than most traditional muslin backgrounds and it's handy/easy to store. Plus, seamless paper has such a clean modern look to it - no wrinkles and lots of different colors to choose from! You can choose from various paper sizes as well - from 26" all the way to 109". I highly suggest buying the paper from a local store though because shipping can be terrible!!

true if buyng thru traditional vendors..

you can pick up a 10x20 muslin on ebay for $60 or less with shipping...

my favorite colors are black ,white or my chromakey blue or green.

the most versatile is grey,, you can color ot with gels, underexpose it to make it black..or blow it out for white..., but that all requires a good lighting setup...

black grey and white will generally work with whatever anyone is wearing... other colors can get iffy...

red is the worst to work with..
