Ramdom survey - when going about normal tasks at home, do you like it quiet, or do you prefer music or TV in the background? (poll to be posted)

I've always prefered some background noise - not loud, but definitely not silent either.

I think DH would go with quiet if left to his own devices, but doesn't really seem to care much either way.

DS definitely goes for background noise. Last week, we had a snow day without power, and he hated it. I could almost feel him relax when I turned on a (battery-powered) radio.

I like to have things on in the house. I can sit at the computer and not even watch what's on TV, but the TV is on. Someone will walk into the room and ask what the show is about and I have no idea what show is even on. :rotfl:
When I bring work home to do, I always sit in front of the TV to do it.

If I'm reading though, I need it to be quiet.

I still prefer music because silence would make me go crazy :) some soothing Kenny G helps lol jk jk Michael Buble works fine for me :)

I like some music on while I am doing housework. If the DH is asleep I use headphones, if I am home alone I fire up the AppleTv thing loud enough to hear it wherever I go.

During waking hours, I could go either way...though I tend to have earphones on when I'm on the computer like now;).

However, I MUST have background noise in order to sleep! Actually, all of us do. The strange thing is I grew up without background. And now I CANNNOT sleep if there isn't some form of noise. Even if it's just a heater or air conditioner running at our Disney resort:rolleyes1

During the day the radio is always on. During the evenings the TV. I can't stand complete silence.

If I'm cleaning or cooking, I like to have music on. I usually use an iPod dock, turn it up loud, and sing along--it's not pretty, but oh well! I use my iPod (with headphones) at work constantly too.

I can't stand silence. If it's too quiet, I want to sleep.

I have tinnitus, so I have background noise whether I want it or not. So I must have some other sound (dishwasher, washing machine, tv--depends on the mood and if chores are going)...or I will be driven bonkers by a LOUD tone that sounds like a flatline.

I'd probably enjoy quiet every once in a while if my ears were actually quiet.

I usually like music in the background. I once dated this guy and he said there were 2 different types of people in the world - those who turn on a TV when they go in a room;and those who turn off the TV when they go in a room - he was convinced the 2 could never mix. I suspect he's right about that one.

While in my office or on computer, I need quiet.
While in kitchen or doing housework, I'll put the TV on but it often turns into a distraction and end up watching instead of working.

Me too. I have a white noise machine for this very reason.

When I'm awake, I could go either way but I usually have stuff turned off because I don't see the point in wasting (and paying for) the electricity if I'm not paying attention.

At work I usually have the radio on, unless I'm doing complicated math.

I don't really know..like right now, it's totally quiet (except for the heater).
Sometimes I have the tv on while online, sometimes I have the headphones on...but then I think I hear something and scare myself!! :lmao:
So I'm gonna go with the middle.

I've got a bit of tinnitis from so many years of rock 'n roll. I don't notice it unless there's absolute silence, then it becomes very annoying.

I'm in the same boat. I prefer some kind of background noise to mask the bird and cricket sounds in my ears.
