Hi folks. Hoping our August vaca will still happen *fingers crossed*
Three out of five family members need glasses. I am terrified of having a glasses break situation.
Do you bring an old pair just in case?
Anyone have experience with zenni Wondering if I should buy a couple cheapies for vaca and summer (bug spray, sunscreen) in general.
What's your plan here?

We always bring our last prescription pair with us on all travel (even when we go to our cabin for a weekend) so IF something would happen it might not be the "exact newest prescription" but we can at least see and get by until we return home to get new frames! DS and myself both wear glasses but I don't think I would go out of my way to buy another set "just in case" because within a few months later there would be a chance our prescriptions would change. We get our eyes checked yearly and get new prescriptions only if needed. =-)

We bring an old pair as backup. I don't think we've ever needed them but it feels good to have just in case. Unless your family members have a rough time losing or breaking their glasses normally, i wouldn't worry about buying new/extra. Just toss the old pair (fits well in a shoe in the suitcase) in as backup.

I love Zenni and it is the only place I get glasses anymore. I normally wear contacts but bring with me a pair of glasses just in case whenever I go anywhere for more than one night. My wife has 7 pairs scattered all over the house and usually brings two or three with us on vacation.

I only have one pair of glasses so no I don't bring a back up.
They cost enough that I'm not spending another $600 just to have 2 pairs.
Nothing has ever happened to them.
I bring a sports security strap for Rock N Roller Coaster because the jerking and going upside down worries me with glasses.
If you HAVE a backup pair or you can get a second pair at a reasonable price sure but its not likely you'll need them.
I guess I'm a little confused by the bug spray/sunscreen connection?

Yep, always have some backup, old pair or I’ve used zenni for extras kept in the car, office, etc. I’ve had a pair break in my bag, my mother lost a pair in the ocean (what was she thinking), friend lost a pair on a roller coaster (but he’s the only one I’ve ever known to do that), but stuff happens. My mother had no backup, but we went to a local eye shop and they were able to get her something that worked that day.

Bring the old pair - wise advice from OP's. Many years ago, we just arrived in London and one of the arms of my glasses fell off into my hand. Thankfully, we were able to walk into an eye shop and able to get a repair done on the spot. We bought a little repair kit from them. A few hours prior, I would have been on a long haul from the US with broken glasses! It certainly was a wake up call...

Sorry...lenses getting icky from spray sunscreen or bug spray... has happened a couple times but wasn't sure if others had this issue

I just carry a couple of glasses cleaning wipes with me in case that happens.
I also exercise outside daily and in the summer when I start sweating it off my glasses do get kind of smeared with it but once I get home I clean them with a glasses wipe and its fine.

I only use cheater magnifying glasses but bring several pairs- would be lost without them. They are one of only a few things I pack in my park bag!

I wear bifocals but I usually buy a pair of cheap non- bifocal sunglasses for beach/pool west in the summer. I’m ok reading for a little while without the reading part of the bifocals. I usually bring my previous pair of regular glasses and stick them in my luggage or carry on just in case. Never needed them but I feel better knowing they are there

I wear contacts but always bring an extra set of contacts and a pair of glasses. I usually only wear my glasses at night, but in case I went through both pair of contacts the glasses are an option. My vision is far too poor to do without.

I keep a spare pair in my travel bag. It was my previous rx before current pair, so close enough. My rx is too strong to buy from most of the online places, although I would not hesitate buy a cheap pair for backup. Especially if we’re talking about kids!

I've never broken glasses in 50 years of wearing them, but I always keep my current prescription with me in case of an emergency. I would never go to the expense of buying another pair "just in case". By the way, bringing my last prescription pair would do me no good. I wouldn't be able to see and would do more harm trying to force my eyes than just being "blind" without them temporarily.

Always a back up or contacts. Better safe than sorry. This was After I accidentally stepped on them and basically crushed them years back. I am lost without them. We had to get a taxi, get to an eye place, it was such drama.. honestly we wasted almost a whole day. Lesson learned.

I wear contacts so always have an extra
Pair plus glasses. What I ensure to have is an eyeglass screw kit. Twice I’ve had the nose piece
Pop off and scrambled to find a place to fix. Now I have the repair kit handy (I like my glasses at night).

I wear contacts during the day and bring my glasses and the old pair with me as a spare. One day after I had taken out my contacts I realized the little screw from my glasses was missing so glad I had my back up pair with me.

I always bring a spare and back up contacts because I’m pretty helpless and blind without my glasses.

I bring my previous pair of glasses with me on vacation. Just in case something happens to my glasses. A few years ago my Mom left her prescription sunglasses on a ride (and somehow it was my fault?). We were lucky she had her back up ones until we could get hers back a day or 2 later at the TTC lost and found.

Bug spray that contains Deet will ruin lenses. Never get insect repellent on lenses.
