We arrived last Saturday (Oct 6th) and checked in at 10:45am. we were happy that our room was available. We were in rm 7534 which is in the bulding by the guardgate at the Carousel. I had vivid memories of Jillpie's trip report earlier this year about the distance thing. The walk for us was not bad at all. Although I can see it being a problem with very young kids or inclement weather. We walked 90% of the time and had no issues. We like renting a car so we are not stuck if the weather is bad.
We were in a 1 bedroom...the room was extremely clean and we did not have one issue with it. We loved the color scheme and furnishings, it was verywarm and relaxing. We stayed once at a Westgate resort, and althought the unit was slightly larger, to us it wasnt as appealing. We had perfect weather. It rained once at breakfast on Monday. It was warm and slightly humid with temps between 88-90 all week. There were just a few lovebugs left...but were not bothersome.
We were in all the parks except for MGM this time. The wait for the popular rides were 50-70 minutes. Usually I hate waiting in lines but found the waiting not too bad...got out of the sun and met alot of nice people. The DVC'ers we met visit these sites but dont usually post.
My DW had a 50 minute Swedish massage at the spa and loved every second of it. I treated myself to a golf lesson. They have the golf lessons at the Magnolia/Palm complex. The workers there were in full swing putting up the grandstand on the 18th green...the PGA tour is there in a couple of weeks.
We ate 2x at the Turf Club. We have yet to be disappointed in their food.
This was our 3rd and final trip to WDW this year. We just bought DVC in January. And this trip was our first time home. We couldnt be happier with our decision. There is enough of a variety of things to do that we enjoy. It is especially nice to actually relax a little on vacation...no more commando vacations for us :)
We just got back today but are aleady planning our 2 vactions there next year.

Thanks for the mini trip report. Sounds like you really enjoyed SSR. We are eating at the Turf Club next month so I am happy to hear it didn't disappoint! Congratulations on your purchase.

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

We too are big fans of SSR; love the spacious layout, decor, quiet pools, and proximity to DTD.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks for the report. Happy to hear the love bugs are nearly gone.

We enjoyed the Turf Club on our last trip, too. Did you make ADRs in advance? Hoping to hear you didn't, as we may try to do walk up there sometime during the last week of October. :)

I agree with you! I love:love: SSR. We also just bought 280pts @ SSR. While planning our Feb. 2008 trip - the MS's lady was helping me with my reservations, and gave me choices of OKW or BCV. But, I still choose SSR... (We have never stayed at OKW or BCV.) I just like the whole layout at SSR. And, the spa if terrific :tigger: ! I can't wait until Feb. What a better Christmas present for the kids:jumping1: (and us) LOL! I told DH when we purchased DVC it was going to be "our" Christmas presents for the next 50 yrs.:santa: . Glad to hear such a great report about SSR!

We were at SSR for 1 night 10/5 before we went to Vero. We stayed in the Grandstand area. Loved it! I love SSR more each time we go. Beautiful grounds and rooms. We have stayed in Congress Park 2x, Springs 1x and now the Grandstand area. Loved the pool and pool bar over there.

My family and I are going home for the first time in 43 days.:yay: Cannot wait to experience the resort. We have ressies at the Turf Club. We have heard nothing but good things about it. We are looking forward to it. I will be sure to post our trip report when we get back.

We made rerservations the day we arrived for that evening..there were plenty of choices arround noon that day. The second time we walked in with no ressies and got a seat right away. I hope you can as well

We were there in Sept and were able to make lunch reservations for 2PM at 9am for that same day. There were only 3 or 4 tables inside being used plus a wedding party of about 10 people and a couple of tables outside. I don't think you will have a problem. I only made the ADRs because it was during free dining and we were leaving for the airport at 3:30 so didn't want to take a chance of having to go somewhere else if we couldn't get in there. The meal was the best we had all week and we ate at Kona, LeCellier, Coral Reef, and Wolfgang Puck Cafe to name a few.

While Turf Club usually has plenty of openings, please do not leave it to chance that they will. DH and I waited 1.5 hours for a table once because we did not have an adr's. Granted, this was during a busy time of the year, but I never would have expected this for Turf Club. It is really starting to make a name for itself.

We toured SSR and bought VWL. My thought at the time was that I didn't care to be near the DTD area, but that was a very wrong impression I have to personally admit.

The DW is mobility challenged and we used a wheelchair at DTD and the DTD watertaxies were great in helping us to get from one end to the other. And with the watertaxi from SSR <--> DTD, that is a nice selling point, I think.

Our trip overlapped with yours. We were at SSR from Oct 4th to the 8th. Also our first trip home, we bought in Dec after touring on our last vacation.

We also ate at the Turfs Club. We didn't have a reservation and walked over at 7:45pm and had to wait 45 minutes, so I would definitely get an ADR. We usually do for all our dinners, and had one at MK, but our daughter wasn't feeling well and we left the park early. So it was nice to have a good place to eat at SSR. We really enjoyed the food.

Can't wait to go back.

We were at SSR at the beginning of last month and tried to eat at the Turf Club twice without ADRs. Both times we were told that there was a 60-90 min wait. We tried to pull a fast one and went to the Concierge Desk and tried to book and we were told that nothing was available. Serves me right.
