Hi everyone,
I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that being a DVC member would work for my family. My DH and I have narrowed it down to purchasing at HH. Since we vacation there anyway and love disney this seems to make perfect sense. Some questions...
We've never been to the HH resort and are planning on driving there july 2001. If I understand this correctly, I will receive (buying 170 pts) 170 2000 use year points plus the current usage year 2001 points totaling 340. Instead of taking advantage of disney's buyback option I plan on banking these points. Now here is where things get a bit murky for me :). We don't plan on using our vacation club for our 2001 vacation.I'd like to bank my total 340 points til 2002. When do my 2000 use year points expire?

We are already booked to travel on the Magic in June 2002. We booked through costco, can these ressies be taken over by DVC or should I cancel my ressie with costco now and rebook direct through disney to avoid a future complication?

Sorry this was soooo long. Thanks.

You can only bank one year ahead. YOu will only have one year worth of points the day you sign. Then you will get another year's worth on the first da of your use year. Usually about 6 months from the day you sign. If you bank the first allotment, they will expire at the end of your first full use year.

Buy in july 01, get jan 01 points, total 170. Bank them into 02. on jan 1 02, you will have 340 points, on dec 31 02, you original points expire.

Using only banking, you can NEVER have three years worth of points.

In the above example, any time during 02, you could borrow all of 03's points. That would be how you could have access to three year's worth of points at one time. You would have to use banking and borrowing.

Understand that if you buy from Disney in July you will not get "2000" use year points. Disney is generally selling a use year that begins 4 to 5 months before you purchase. In other words, you will likely get Feb or March, meaning the points you get at time of sale will be those issued Feb 1, 2001 (if you get Feb), which are "2001" use year points. Those would have to be used by Jan 2002 unless banked--if banked you must use them for a trip that begins and ends between Feb 1, 2002 and Jan 31, 2003.

Perhaps I have totally misunderstood my salesrep, according to him I would receive 2000use year points in addition to my 2001 use year points. I believe it was called the magical beginnings program. Working on the premise that I would initially purchase 170 points, I would receive an additional 170 points from use year 2000. I have the option of selling a portion of those points back to disney (the 2000 use year points) or banking or keeping them. I understood that I would have 340 points total for my 2001 use year. Did I totally misunderstand him?

Thanks again for all your help.

If you are buying right now...they give you an October use year, you now have last October's, 2000 use year points. This Octiber, you will be getting an additional 170 points....maybe that is what the situation is.

Unless you are talking about VB points, Disney's desperation to get rid of VB points has led them to offer MB programs that are more liberal then any other resort. I could easily see them offering an extra years worth of points.

If that is the case, think very carefully, Buying VB points for use at WDW DVC resorts is generally no reccomended and not a good idea.

If you bought now or soon that would be correct, simply because your use year would likely begin at sometime between September and November 2000. In other words, those buying now get a use year that begins 4 to 5 months before date of purchase and that time happens to be in the year 2000. Points issued in any month during the year 2000 are "2000" points. Under the MB program, you sell back half those first year's points for $10 per and that is applied to your down payment. If you bought now and got a Sep use year, you would get points issued Sep 1,2000, which could then be banked into the Sep 2001 to Aug 2002 use year. If you buy in July, that 4 or 5 months before the date of sale starting time would be in 2001 and thus you would start with 2001 points

Is there any opportunity that you will not take to knock VB? The poster clearly stated they were talking about HH.

I think by now, all 55,000 DVC owners must know how you feel about VB. Please give it a rest!

No, sorry, I see that you are looking at HH. I hadn't heard of any extravagant MB programs there. I think that either I am right in my above comment, or you may have misunderstood something.

HH is a great resort, if you plan to visit there during the summer, you really do need to won there and make use of the eleven month window.

If you are intending to mainly visit WDW DVC resorts, it may not be best.

The day Disney stops using lies and fraud to sell VB points, is the day I will give it a rest.

Your guide was correct in saying that your purchase right now would mean you get your 2000 points and can bank them into 2001. That would give you double the points to use in 2001 use year which would be through July 31, 2002 if your use year is September. If you get these points and it is enough for you to do the cruise, I would ask the guide about transfering your ressie there to points. I am not sure that can be done, since a cruise is an exchange for DVC, but you could ask anyway. At least you could find out availability of a cruise in June of 2002. It sound like HH might be a good choice for you since you vacation there anyway. :)

The person who posted this topic asked for clarification on the points he/she would receive at closing and how they can be used.

There was no request about where the points should be bought at or about the selling practices of other resorts..

Please stay on topic.

Diane I did not mean everyone that had posted. Your post was exactly on topic. I was referring to those who are bringing other issues into this thread that are unrelated to this thread.

IF you haven't been to DVC HH, please visit and stay at the DVC resort before you buy there. It's a great resort and may be the best choice for you based on your choice of vacations at HH and wanting to be in the DVC. The location is a good one but not a great one for HH and you need to be sure you're happy for the long hall.

I think Rich was trying to tell you that if you were planning on buying at HH and staying mostly at WDW, you might want to reconsider. IF you're planning on going mostly in summer to HH, you need to be prepared to schedule at the 11 month window and possibly day by day as the days open up.

Thank you all for responding. I believe I have a clear understanding of the points I will be receiving when I close, when I can bank, and when those points expire. We plan on buying at HH and vacationing at HH during the summer months with trips to disney every other year or so. When we do visit WDW, we will be happy with whatever accommodations we can get into so I don't foresee a problem there.
I would never have been as informed as I am without the help of this board..thanks again.

That is what we are here for and also what we get joy from.

Going in with a good understanding of the program and its ins and outs, is the best position to be in. An informed decision is a good decision.

Good luck and let us know when we can welcome you home...
