Hello all, this is my first post in over a month. We were in Disney when we lost Bob and if that wasn't bad enough when I got back to work on the Tuesday after the get together at the Gaylord Palms I was told that our area had been restructured and I was being let go. I have been with this company for 32 years and at 52 it was a shock to say the least. It's taken me this long to realize how much I missed the Podcast family and after to listening to to the gang the last couple of weeks its really helped get me back on my feet again. I didn't want this to be a "downer" post just a public thank you to Pete, Julie, Kevin, John,Corey and DIS unplugged community.
See you on the boards.

Rob Skinner

P.S. Pete if your hiring I'm available;)

Rob,

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. Just know that we are all here for you for morale support. If for anything else we can try to bring a smile to your face.

Welcome back and a little Disney magic your way. :wizard:

Rob, I am sorry to hear about your job. It's tough when you lose your job through no fault of your own.

Corporations have become so heartless. I am sincerely sorry that you're going through this. 32 years of loyalty to them and it means nothing. Shame on them.

We're in the same age bracket and DH's company recently "restructured." Fortunately, he survived the cuts but the stress was awful and the process took months. Guess what? Now they're "spinning them off." Just yesterday he went to a presentation about this. He came home with two new shirts, a hat and assurance that they're all going to be fine. :sad2:

I hope that you're able to find a wonderful job. Many of DH's coworkers went the contractor route and are doing well.

Best of luck to you.

I am glad to see you back. I dont know what is happening in this country. They just did the same thing to my sister after 27 years and I didnt want to post it either for fear of being a downer. So my family is going through similar issues as you can imagine. We are sending you a big hug and I know there will be a better place for you in the work force. Hang in there.

Rob, I'm sorry to hear about your job. That is too bad. We have a couple big companies in our town, and with the economy, some of them are feeling it. Good luck finding something else.

I can totally understand where you are right now. My DHh lost his job after being with the company for 18 years, then 1 month later I found out I was going to lose my job after 12 years (same company). So there we were, 2 kids, and no jobs.

It's hard to see the forrest for the trees now, but everything works out the way it should. My DH got a job that paid twice as much and affords me to be a SAHM, though I'm not sure I want to do that for long.;)

I wish you a lot of luck searching for a new job!:goodvibes

Sorry! I think these things have a way of working out for the best though even though you don't see it now. What field are you in? Maybe Pete is hiring! :)

So very sorry that you've been going thru this. My DH works for a Fortune 500 company and they did a huge layoff at Christmas. Christmas! DH's job made it thru but he was so stressed. The company even let some VP's go.

32 years at one company should stand for something. I really feel your pain. I hope a new door of opportunity opens for you really soon. :grouphug:

Hoping things go your way soon. This is the best place to be when you need some morale boosting. Good Luck...

Rob, Sorry for the tough time you are going through. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya!!! Great to have you back.

:grouphug: I only hope that this economy gets better - this rough patch seems to be spreading. I wish you much luck and success in the future.

I'm so sorry Rob. I know what an awful feeling it is lose your job and just after the terrible shock of Bob's passing. :(

Glad you have come back to the DIS, I've never seen such a supportive board and please know that we do all support you.

You and Jan take care and keep us posted on how you are doing. And even though it's a cliche, you know, when one door closes.....

Wow, so sorry Rob!

Living in Silicon Valley, sadly, we have seen a lot of this and had to participate in many layoffs (on both sides). Loyalty has zero bearing with management these days.

Hang in there. I will hold good thoughts for a great job coming your way.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your job. I think Regina said it well; corporations have become so heartless. You will do your best and try your hardest to succeed in a job, yet after doing that for 32 years, they will still let you go with no remorse... hopefully you can find another job with nicer people coughpodcastteamcough... ;)

I am sorry to hear about you rough patch it seems we have all been there lately but thankfully the DIS is here to help keep us sane! :goodvibes

hope everything turns out ok:hug:

Hey Rob,

Sorry to hear about your job. Having worked in Silicon Valley for my entire career I can tell you it is not easy when this stuff happens. Earlier in my career before finding my current job I was laid off, reduced, reorganized out of companies five different times. Yup 5 times! The first was definitely the most impactful on my ego, emotions, and my family. Hang in there and work with your network of friends. There are lots of resources out there now to find a job, but I have to be honest and say nothing has been more valuable to me then friends and social networks where people let me know about other opportunities.

Wishing you the best through this tough chapter
Don

I too am sorry this happened :( I know it is hard, I know it feels so badly. I have been through it with friends and family. Let me tell you how it turned out for them.

My friend, Corp mgmnt job. One of the best people I have ever met. She knew her underlings name, their families names, their kids ages. I mean she couldnt walk the hall without taking a year, greeting people and listening to their stories. She cared. She was amazing! Not sure her years in, but she got let go due to a bad employee. He was a drunk and big trouble. They said it was due to restructure or some other lame thing. But is was this guy, he knew people, he won. People she worked with were afraid to talk to her, she lost a lot of "friends", and nearly had a break down. It was sooo bad. That was about 10 years ago. Now she is happy as pie. She got out of the company, right before it went south. Not that it died, it just changed into a typical CORP AMERICA type place. Nasty people, nasty who cares attitude. It is now a dog eat dog job-she would HATE IT!! She used to work soooo much and had no time to herself. She now loves her job, loves her life and it only took about 2 years for her to get her new life going, new city, new job and a lot of new friends. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 They did her a favor, they sooo did her a favor!

My MIL, well she got "let go" due to cuts, 10+ years ago- after 28 years service, in health care, she is an RN and was in mgmnt. She ran the place she worked, she gave them her blood and was so dedicated. When they let her go, she was devastated!! They didn't have retirement, she left with nothing. Now she is sooo happy!! She never went back to full time in one place. She works jobs she likes, hrs she chooses. She spends 2 days a week with her grand kids, her dream is to do 7 day a week LOL! In hind site, that place went down real fast after she left. They actually got taken over right after, and then those owners got into legal trouble. As the mrg she would of been hung for the stuff that happened. I think the owners got her out of there first, because she cared about her :) :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 They did her a favor, they sooo did her a favor!

SO I know it is hard to see, but sometimes these things happen for good reason. Please keep us posted!

Try and relax and don't worry about it too much. Things will be just fine, I promise! :goodvibes
