Back to school Staples sales?

Is Staples just not doing them anymore?

I see some deals, but they aren't nearly what they used to be. About 7 years ago they had 12 pencils for .01. Now they are .75. That isn't a lot of money, unless you need 25 of them for a classroom set, then it adds up.

And I don't see these "deals" as being any less than Walmart's prices for school supplies.

Am I missing something? Please tell me I am, I want deals!

Office Max/Office Depot is running the penny sales. But you have to have a $5 purchase to qualify for the penny sales. I think this week it's Elmer's glue, composition notebooks, and ... something else. Limit of three each with a $5 purchase. With a small limit, you still won't be able to get 25 for a classroom. I think this is pretty similar to recent years. Staples hasn't had penny sales for a few years (definitely not last year, and I'm pretty sure not the year or two before) and I agree that their "list for less" sales are the same as WalMart every day.

Very little of the super crazy cheap stuff this year. But I have found good prices on name brands this year. Last week it was 25 cents for Crayola colored pencils. This week it's 25 cents for Crayola markers. And $1 for Ticonderoga pencils. I've been price matching at WalMart since Office Max is out of the way (but they won't match the penny deals since there's a "catch" with the min purchase requirement). I now have enough colored pencils for the rest of the grade school years.

Staples back to school sales have gone downhill compared to what they once were. I remember giving my daughter a quarter and she would buy penny items without needing a minimum purchase. They also used to have a special coupon that if you spent $10 you had a 10% off coupon for school supply sales all summer. We used to buy just about all school supplies there but now I don't buy as much anymore. I still buy their binders because the kids prefer them. I have bought some of the 25cent items this summer if I am near Staples for other reasons.

Yup, nothing good at Staples. Only OfficeDepot/Max. But as far as the limits there go, I've read that some OfficeDepots/Maxes will allow teachers to buy more than the limit if they ask. It's at least worth a try!

Same here. 3 years ago everything was bought at Staples. This year it's a weekly trip to Office Depot. Notebook paper is .01 next week, along with many .25 items.

Thank guys. I will see if I can get to Office Depot, it is further away, unfortunately, but I will see what I can do.

Staples will price match Office Depot 110%. I wonder how it would work with office depot brand items.
