Back to School Bargain Thread

Check Walgreens. I just got sharpener eraser combo for .99. They had 3 hole punches for 1.99 and a bunch of different school supplies for under 1.00.

For those of you with older kids...I just bought 3 pairs of jeans for DD (12) at Aeropostle for $9.99 each- originally $39 and $47. This was a start to our Back To School shopping little by little and for less and less. :thumbsup2

Also~ don't forget to scan your favorite stores for those 'Clearance' shelves. You can find lots of goodies along the way by looking high and low. AND- buy alot while it is on sale. Your children will go through paper, pencils, supplies and such throughout the year. Keep extras in a safe place for mid year. ;)

I was in Office Depot right before school was out and got tab dividers (.10- normally $4-5), mechanical pencils for (.25 pk of 12), locker accessories ($1) and such. You can even score big with teacher supplies at the dollar store right now too.

Keep posting those goodies, folks~ so that none of us are stressing come August to find things or pay for things.

I actually took DD's to scope out what color notebooks, folders, trapper keepers and bookbags they like. We did buy a few items like index cards, glue etc that the kids use anyway for crafts projects. Due to finances this year, I'll be waiting for Staples, walMart and Target's sales to stock up. Both DD's and I are in school so we go throught lots of loosleaf paper, index cards, pencils and pens. ;)

I'm looking for any deals on a bookbag for older DD and an Trapper keeper type binder for younger dd and flash drive for older DD.

BTW, DD's go back August 5 and I go back the 12th.

I'm in!

I went shopping for flipflops at the Gap today because I had a reward $10 off coupon that expires tomorrow. So I got 3 pair for $3. They were starting to put up there back to school uniform and regular clothing out. Justice had all their back to school up and all summer was in the clearance section. DD wanted some stuff, but I told her I only buy from there with a 40% off coupon.

We just got both kids report cards in the mail today. No teacher assignments yet. Tons of teachers retired due to cashing in on the incentive the state had for them. They are working on filling the teaching positions, so we'll have to wait to see what materials will be needed once they know who their teacher is.

I will buy crayons, markers, pencils, loose leaf paper and such before then, because we all know that's expected.

Cvs should do a few free after ecb or very cheap things the week after the 4th and then the next few weeks after that.

I got a TRU flyer in the mail today and they are going to do the free lunchbox when you buy a backpack and funtainers on sale again this year.

Lots of big name places are doing 50% off their clearance prices right now (Hollister, Aeropostale too I think.....I deleted the emails etc)

We bought DD a thermos at Target for hot food. It was in the camping area, wide mouth so it was easy for her to use. I filled it with hot water, heated up her food, poured out the water and added the hot food. Food stayed warm through lunch.
Check the back to school area and the camping area when you are looking.

Thank you!

Ds is heading off to K this September! :scared1:

His teacher's list was not long at all, but I do plan to get doubles to help her out in case any students show up with nothing. (My teacher friend suggested I do this.) :goodvibes

And I will hit the $.01 sale at Staples as well!

I'd buy more than doubles - your DS will need to replenish mid-year and it's hard to pay $2 for crayons when they were 20 cents in August.

40% off coupon starts tomorrow (6/30) at Justice.

I'm definitely subbing this thread. I have one DS12 who will be in 7th and my other DS5 will start Kindergarten. We got their lists before school was out and I figured the sales would start around here after 4th of July because the local public schools (My boys go to Catholic School) starts on Aug 2nd. But now I think I might try to hit the stores this week.

I think we are doing pretty good on uniforms, DS5 has hand me downs that are in good shape and DS12 got some new stuff towards the end of last year. But I think I might make them try everything on (The horror!) just to make sure.

Count me in as well. I buy supplies not only for my own children but my students as well. I have many low income families and I never want a student to go without. I love the Staples sale, it really makes stocking my classroom much easier.

I found some composition books (the sewn in kind) for 15 cents at Walmart today. They are black and white but they do have designs like checkerboard and swirls...a little different than the normal marbeled look.

I also found some themed for Alice in Wonderland...THOSE were $2.50 but...my dd was Queen of Hearts in 4th grade so for old times sake I got her a couple of those!!

Walmart should get started on their school display on Monday probably. We do not nee too much. I have stocked up so much in the past years we already have lots of normal things.

I will need to get her a new 3" binder because they just do not hold up very well.

i've gotten everything on DD's school supply list already, except for the box of latex gloves for science class (7th grade, ages 12 and 13). does anyone know what i should get? would a box of small latex gloves be okay? is small the right size? i don't want them to be dangling off the kids' hands, and i'm totally at a loss.

All my kids are in Jr High or High School this year and we NEVER get lists. And they always want weird things like 3 green pens, college rule paper(can't be regular)3 inch binders which never go on sale and some kind of odd calculator that they never actually use because my kids have lost it by winter break. I stock up on stuff like pencils, erasers and the paper if I can find it but it is rough. The stuff we always run out of are printer paper, flash drives and college ruled paper and pens. I am only going to be stocking up on those thiings this year before we go back. I will wait for their odd lists. One year it was plastic goggles for science lab, I never did find any in the stores so I gave up and did without. I figured if I couldnt find them neither could anyone else and i wasn't special ordering them online.

For anyone who is looking for safety glasses for science classes - you can find them in hardware stores. Most stores will have a selection including some that look like sunglasses.

Thanks for posting this! These are my kids fav notebooks, we use spirals when I cant get enough of these cheap enough. I'll have to go buy a bunch if our has them in. :lovestruc

Gloves for science class can be found with the first aid supplies at any local store. They have powdered and non-powdered. Check the list and the box, you may have to get latex free because of the allergy risk.

If anyone has a VF outlet nearby they had 2 whole racks of different styles of Jansport backpacks and messanger bags for $15-$30! If DS was in school I would have picked one of those up.
