I just got back from my 8 week trip at Ft. W. We stayed in 1702 and it was a wonderful site (except when the tree fell on my camper). It rained just about every day in June but July was the usual, thunderstorms in the afternoon. I have to say that staying that long provided me with the opportunity to wait until extra magic hours for each of the parks to attend. It was wonderful waiting for the sun to go down to come out to play. The kids were great and they have an arm full of wristbands that they are refusing to cut off until school starts. They now have two weeks to get back into their sleep schedule for school and are now night owls. I thought they may become bored over a period of time, but that was a wrong thought. Loved the new camper and the washer/dryer really held up well and was used quite often and the second bathroom was a hit with 4 daughters. I met a lot of wonderful people and can't wait until next summer. The one thing I can't get out of my mind about the whole trip is the peacocks. Ft. W is trapping them and shipping them over to AK. I really am bummed about that as it is the favorite activity for the 3 yo. She loves to look for peacocks. Also, the petting zoo is leaving a lot to be desired. She only wanted to go there once. After the donkey's left, she had no interest. Other than that, I can not think of one day that I wished I was any other place. Ms. Sundee is doing well and I enjoyed her company on many a day during her lunch break. She is part of the reason Ft. W is what it is. Oh yea, one more thing, I did notice a lot of the parents would let their kids drive the golf carts in the loop and some of those kids were not over the age of 10! Anyway, home and happy and now counting down the days until December 26!

I am so jealous!! :bounce:

I am counting down the days until our trip next July....it will be a first time to WDW(in a long time for hubby and I and first for the girls!!) We are going to be camping and we are so happy that it is available at FW.

a couple questions:

Did you do the Sing along/movie at all?

Everyone else has been complaining about EMH were they crowded?

Were the rains prohibitive for tent campers?i.e. too soggy for tents?

Thanks!!

Glad you had a great time...enjoy the readying for school schedule!!

Welcome back to reality.Sounds like everyone had a great time.

I was wondering what happened to the numerous peacocks that roamed through FW. Fortunately, we did see a few. The petting zoo may be gone, but at least they still have pony rides!

mrsgus06,
Glad you had a great trip. I was thinking about you the other day 'cause I remembered you had a long trip planned and that you had just purchased a new camper. How badly was it damaged by the tree? Also, weren't you getting your house renovated while you were gone. How did that turn out?? I can't wait to head to FW - heading down on October 16!!!!!

Welcome back home. I'm glad you had a great trip. I hope your camper isn't damaged from the tree falling on it. We love FW too!! It's such a great place. We will miss the peacocks, though. We can't wait to go back. We just got back about 3 weeks ago.

Glad to hear all is well with Ms Sundee and "the fort" 8 weeks.... must have been nice.
We will be down on 12/23 seeya then.

Fortunately, the camper was not damaged by the tree. It fell on the front slide about 11:30 at night and scared the kids. I walked down to the bathhouse and called the front desk and they sent someone out immediately to remove the tree. The slide still works and it just scratched the top of it a little. Unfortunately, the remodeling did not come through. Hubby owns his own business and works mainly on handyman repairs and has been working for a man that bought an apartment complex that is requiring a lot of repairs. It was bad for the remodel, but great for the pocketbook, if you know what I mean. I did have some other issues with the camper. The water pipes were only hand tightened so one of them broke free during the middle of the night and flooded the bottom of my camper. The underbelly and insullation fell to the ground and greeted me at the front door on a Sunday morning. Lazy Days sent someone out on Monday to cut the rest of the underbelly away and fix the water pipe. They even offered to move me to a hotel for that Sunday night, but the thought of moving myself and 5 kids for one night was not an option in my book. The camper is now back at Lazy Days for a list of repairs and they have been really great to us. Now the best part, hubby and I have to make another trip back down to pick the camper up, but we are ditching the kids and going alone. :teeth: As for the remodeling project, he will just have to work around us or wait until next summer as I will be booking that visit soon. Ms. Sundee came over just about every day that we were not in the parks to eat her lunch and I loved every visit. I did go to the sing a long, but did not sit through the movies. The bugs were a little bit too much to deal with on some nights. EMH were busy on some nights and not on others, depending on the time of the month. Being there so long, we did not rush to do anything. As for tent camping, I would suggest a couple of tarps. I rode my golfcart around after Hurricane Dennis and the tents seemed to be just fine. I think we only got a half of day of rain. I did see a couple of awnings on the campers collapse due to having them level. Ms. Sundee reminded me that you will also be back in Dec BigDisneyDaddy and I hope to see you there!

What a great trip that must have been! And, just one question, I've seen it mentioned before, but who is Ms. Sundee? LOL

Ms Sundee is the CM who does the campfire sing along with Chip and Dale. She also works at the bike barn during the afternoon. She is one of the big reasons we like the sing along so much. Fort Wilderness wouldnt be the same without her there. She is a high energy person that personifies "Disney magic"

Once she meets you, plan on singing at the campfire cause she expects you to participate and when she sings the mickey mouse club song you had best make the mouse ears like she tells you :rotfl:

(I get busted for that every trip)

Oh, okay! Is she the only person that does the sing alongs or would another person do it as well? I ask because we didn't enjoy it much at all and nobody paid the "singer" any attention at all the night we went. I felt bad for her. : (

Ms. Sundee is off on Sunday and Monday. I think it must have been another singer, as the poster has stated before, she will make you interact with her. I love going to her shows for that reason. She will tell you she is an equal opportunity offender and will point you out. :teeth: I miss her visits already.

Hmmm, we were there on a Saturday night (July 16) and the songleader that night was very quiet/shy seeming and didn't make a big deal out of people participating. A woman of maybe her mid-50's with glasses.

The Ms. Sundee you're speaking of sounds fun! :sunny:

Sounds like Julie, She is talented and very nice, she just has a much more low key performance that Sundee.

You can use my name, we are all friends here :rotfl:

YES! That was her name! I knew if I heard it, it would come back to me.

We just got back from 4 weeks at FW (July 2-31) on 1609. I wholeheartedly agree about the pool. I wish they'd at least add a slide or two to spice it up. I wish they'd cool the water a bit as well as it was always like bathwater and not very refreshing. We're also back just after Christmas for about 8 days, but we're staying at POP instead of FW as it costs too much to pull the trailer down unless the length of stay is longer.

We were standing outside during the wind when Dennis (can't remember if that was the one that just missed Florida - there were so many storms on the Weather Channel that month!) was cruising past Florida, when all of a sudden a big branch drops to the ground on the next site. Missed the trailer there, but scared the sh*& out of us. Every time the wind came up after that I was nervously looking out the windows that the swaying trees wondering when the next one was going to fall on our trailer.
