Back to Back Trips in the Hottest Month of the Year, 4 Resorts and Some Magic Bands!! The How Could You Gang Rides Again!
Allow me to introduce the folks along for the first ride and the next one. First up-DH and Myself. DH is not a Disney addict by any stretch of the imagination, but he goes along for the "get away from home" and sometimes joins in on the fun.
Next is me, Linda. I AM a Disney addict, fully admitted and OK with that! My first trip to WDW was in 1981 with my mom and some family friends. It was only the Magic Kingdom back then, and the only resorts were the Poly and CR (neither of which my mom could afford). We stayed offsite  at a Travelodge in Kissimee and made a day visit to the park (maybe 2 days). The characters looked a bit funny back then. But that was all it took! I was hooked. We went each summer while I was in High School and made day visits to the park. In 1984 I got my first EPCOT Center experience (didn't go in 83) and made sure to go again the year MGM Studios opened their doors. We missed out on AK by several years. I wasn't up for WDW with an infant. In 1996 we had our first on-site stay at CBR! That was it! I've never looked back. Every stay since has been on-site. We have tried numerous different resorts-adding 2 new ones to the collection this summer!

Along with DH and myself for this first trip in end July/August were my son (right) and nephew (left). DS has been going to WDW or DL pretty much yearly since 2004. This would be DNephew's first trip ever.

So there you have it: an Addict, a seasoned vet, a newbie, and one "just going along to get away from home". Nothing could possibly go wrong with this plan, right? :rolleyes1

Just a little backstory to explain 2 trips in one month's time. DD was supposed to be involved in a summer ballet intensive. DS did not want to lose out on summer vacation. So the idea was born that DS and I would go to WDW while DD was doing her intensive in early summer. DS decided he would be bored with Exciting, but old, Mom and asked if he could bring someone along. My sister-in-law was on board with letting one of her boys go along. Now there were 3. As the trip got closer, DH decided I would not be able to handle 2 boys by myself in Disney. :lmao: Now there are 4!
Then DD decided against going away for the summer intensive but wanted a mother/daughter trip. We had talked about this with a friend of hers and her mom (also a Disney Addict) before and decided to make plans for the trip. We wanted to go during a less busy month but I didn't want DD to miss too much school. So we opted for the last week of August. DD would just miss the first 2.5 days-no big deal.

DNephew would not get out of school until mid June. :headache: Then he had a hockey conflict. Best time for him was last week of July into start of Aug. So that trip got bumped from June. What's an Addict to do?:confused3 Two trips during August....to Florida......hurricane season....HOT..... Sure, why not?!!!

And now, for the participants of the August 25th-Sept 1st trip.

myself, DD-K , her friend K2, and K2's mom. They are seasoned Disney travelers and enjoy Epcot most. DD and I are DHS fans so we had trouble deciding how to divide our time and sometimes needed to split up to keep everyone happy.
We also acquired these little beauties for this trip:

Oh my gosh!!! TWO Trips back to back... that's AWESOME!! Of course I'm here and following along!! :)

Oh my gosh!!! TWO Trips back to back... that's AWESOME!! Of course I'm here and following along!! :)

Wow!!! And you are first, too!!! Thanks for coming along! Can't wait to get into all that happened. I have so many photos to share, too. So glad you are here.
And so sorry that we never seemed to run into you anywhere. I kept my eyes wide open, too.

I'm here; off to bed as we are going out of town tomorrow. I'll be back to read.

We became a bit of the "Resort Hoppers" on this trip. When the summer discounts came out for this year, I got on the phone to see about a return to the Beach Club. I knew we couldn't possibly do a full stay there, but a split with a Value was do-able. Unfortunately, Beach Club with the discount was not available except for Club Level.:cloud9: (some day) BUT they had Yacht Club. DS was the one who really wanted BC so I talked it over with him. With YC they still would have the use of SAB (which was his main goal) so we went with that. Now to decide on the value. I reallllllllyyyyyyy did not want to deal with All-Stars. DS wanted to do AoA, but I told him the only way to do it was to use the Little Mermaid rooms. Ummmm, NO! :confused3 Can't imagine why he wouldn't want to stay in the girlie rooms. ;) So that left us POP. Then I told him we could do a Moderate and stay in one place for the entire trip and called to price out Pirate rooms at CBR or a return to CS. The boys really didn't want to do either (SAB is a huge draw for any kid).
A little later in the spring the AP discounts came out.:rolleyes1 Soooooo, I called Disney again to add the extra discount and what do you know?! BC is available with the discount. Yep, switched!
The plan was set. Except, DNephew lives in New York. How to get him here, became the question of the day. First we thought we'd fly him here and then leave out of Midway. Flights from Chicago to ORD were ridiculous all winter and spring. DSIL called one day to say she had seen flights from Buffalo to ORD $113 each way. After crunching all the numbers and adding in the cost of gas, it was still cheaper for the 3 of us to drive to their house and then fly from Buffalo Int'l.
I know, I know....get to the photos already!!!! Dates are July 24th (driving to New York) and flying out on the 25th in the morning, staying through August 1st then flying back to New York but staying at DSIL to recover for a couple of days before returning home Aug 3rd.

Our chariot awaits:

003.jpg

The boys did wayyyy more of this on this vacation than I could hardly stand. Note DS has his Blackhawks shirt on (just after we took the Cup). This comes into play later in the day.

002.jpg

Our flight was fairly uneventful and we arrived to DME with little fanfare.

Unfortunately, I did not have my camera out (and being a newbie with a smartphone-didn't think of using it to capture the lines at DME) so I have no photos of our nonexistent line. However, being the first flight in means waiting for more passengers to arrive before we could get a move on! :sad2: And then we weren't even graced with a real DME bus. Which prompted DS (the veteran of all things Disney) to add his 2 cents with this comment "Wow, a Bootleg Magic Express Bus"-to which everyone around got a good :rotfl2:.

Soon enough we were off-and it was raining! What?!!! It's not even time for that yet?! That isn't supposed to happen until the afternoon.

005.jpg

We did have the wonderful arrival video, and our driver was a bit fun, so the time passed quickly enough and soon we were driving through....

006.jpg

and seeing my most treasured purple signs!

007.jpg

In no time we were pulling in here!

009.jpg

And checking in here: Nobody here? :cool1:

078.jpg

We had reserved a preferred room and the only request I'd made was "high floor"

What do you know? It was only a little after 11 and our room was ready!

066.jpg

We got Building 4, 60s section, Room 4412-top floor and corner room. :goodvibes

067.jpg

We were in our room by 11:27 am.

Here we are!!

013.jpg

012.jpg

the only towel critter for the entire stay we had there

011.jpg

Is it just me, or has Mousekeeping really decreased their use of these? When we were at AKL in 2004, there was a new towel critter every day, and the housekeepers were always taking the kids stuffed critters and making arrangements with them and the towel critters. The kids got such a kick out of wondering what we would find each day on our return to the room.

We were celebrating DNephew's birthday this trip. Here the boys are listening to the welcome call and Happy Birthday wish from the characters.

010.jpg

The view from the top (and I had my telephoto lens on so the photos are a little too close)

014.jpg

We were just a staircase and a very short walk from Everything POP! It was awesome to be that close. The boys could just walk over and grab a bite to eat or look around in the shop. We loved it.

015.jpg

The view right out our door

018.jpg

and around the corner

017.jpg

We were getting a bit hungry and decided to wander over to grab a bite and decide what to do. The rain had stopped and we debated between a swim after lunch or heading out to a park.

051.jpg

052.jpg

I wandered a bit in the lobby. How many of the items in the shadowboxes do you recall having in your own home at some time in your life? In this first one, we had the ice tray, the cookbook, and the egg beaters.

054.jpg

This one I know we had the flashcards, the dominoes, a skateboard (not that one), and of course, the PlayDough (who didn't?) and I had a Flinstones lunchbox when I was in 1st grade!

055.jpg

I watch all these TV shows (albeit in rerun form-until the color version of "I Dream of Jeanie")

056.jpg

Still have the Wheel of Fortune game that is in this case. Think it's worth anything?! and I had so many of the items in this box...

062.jpg

Here's where I was a bit of a bad Diser. I didn't do food photos with the Boys' Trip. My DH thinks I'm really weird with my Disney obsession as it is and that would just tip him over the edge. :confused3 But you all really don't need a thousand pictures of pizzas or cheeseburgers anyways - as that is really all the boys ever ate.

They were beginning the flip in here towards RFID and stations would be closed each time we went in.

068.jpg

069.jpg

As you can see, it wasn't really too crowded in there for lunch time.

070.jpg

071.jpg

072.jpg

The boys had burgers, I had the fish and chips and DH had the Spring Egg Roll sandwich. Grand total $36.81. The food was not the best for myself or DH. The boys like their burgers just fine. Not excited to return here for lunch any time soon. (at least, that is what my notes say)

We wandered into the shop before deciding what to do with our day.

073.jpg

074.jpg

075.jpg

076.jpg

077.jpg

After wandering around the shop, we made the decision to head out. Where do you suppose we decided to go?
To be continued..........

Oh good to finally get your trip report....love the pix so far....i know you just hated having to go to WDW 2 x this past summer......

Linda, a great arrival day update. Glad you got your room request and that your room was ready.

Love your son's t-shirt!

Rain early in the day? Seriously, that's not supposed to start until 4 p.m. according to my TR. ;)

I think with the cutbacks on mousekeeping, they've had to cut back on the towel animals because they just don't have the time.

Yay, you found me!!! Yes, it was just awful going twice this summer.;)

I know!!! Totally threw me off my game!

You are probably right. Still very disappointing.

Yay for arriving safe and sound and getting your room requests granted! Nothing like starting out a trip on the right foot.

We left off heading out of the shop to the bus stop. Since it was DNephew's first trip (and we were celebrating his birthday) we let him decided where we should go for the first park of the trip.
Of course, all he could think of to do was Test Track. What boy wouldn't?! Off we went to Epcot! The wait wasn't too bad. Since it was midday, (I guess :confused3) our bus was shared and we made a stop at AoA as well. Took us just 15 minutes and arrived to Epcot at about 1:30.

I had preordered our tickets (well, the boys' tickets - I had AP) from UT. So they were the paper tickets. At the turnstiles, the CMs cleared us in with their little checker thingys and said we should head over to Guest Services at some point in the day to change over our tickets to the new RFID cards. We figured we might as well just take care of that first thing.

Fernandia, the most awesome CM at Epcot GS ever!!, took care of us. This is where DS BlackHawks shirt came into play. Seems Fernandia was a HUGE hockey fan (but she wasn't a BlackHawks fan). She rooted for the Canadians. :scared1: She and DS had a bit of banter back and forth. And since DNephew plays hockey and is from NY (stuck with the Sabres :headache:) they continued on with their hockey conversations for quite some time. DS loves to be harassed. :rolleyes1 Well, he loves to give others a hard time, so it was a match made in heaven. She asked what our plans were for the day, and the boys of course had TT on the brain. We didn't have any major plans figuring FPs would be gone for TT and Soarin' so we just told her we would just see how the afternoon and evening went. She wrote us out FPs good for any ride of our choice that day. :woohoo: Then she said they were good for 3 (kidding) since she couldn't give one out to a BlackHawks fan. DS just sort of gave her the look.... then laughed.

This is why I LOVE Disney! It's not all the big stuff. It's just the unexpected interactions along the way. And I made sure to stop back at GS on the way out that night to leave Fernandia a :thumbsup2 and fill out a CM 4keys card.

The cards taken care of, we made our way into the park. DS had one thing he wanted to initiate his cousin to. :rolleyes1 Everyone has to try it, right?!

IMG_1363.jpg

We made our way to Club Cool and DS talked about how wonderful this soda was and that DNephew just had to try it. :rotfl2:

019.jpg

I'm not sure what was funnier....his reaction at that moment, or looking at the photos later and discovering the gentleman behind the boys with his reaction.

We made our way to the new Test Track. (I have to confess, I spent way more time here than I would ever like to again in life)

Thanks to our lovely FP, we were able to enjoy the ride via the short line. The stand by wait was over 2 hours by then. We were given the white RFID cards to load our "ride" onto and sent off into the design studio.

020.jpg

DH really enjoyed this part as well, and was just as happy as the boys to spend time in this pavilion.

021.jpg

The boys' ride

and DH's

and our poor excuse for a copied ride photo

024.jpg

Now, being a girl with little interest in cars, I was more than ready to move on. But first you have to pass through the Chevy zone.

025.jpg

That was where most forward progress halted for several "painful" moments. The boys had to try out their car on the race "mats", check out all their results (very competitive), and look around at the automobiles. As if that wasn't painful enough, we still had to pass through the dump shop.

Finally free of Mr. Chevy, we went to check in with Gary Sinise and his crew. I told the boys to go to the rough side, but they wouldn't go without me, so they willingly took pity on me and we launched from easy.

After that we took in some short-wait type rides and covered Living With the Land, and Ellen's Universe of Energy. Hey, got to get some education in somewhere, right?!

Everyone was starting to get a little hungry. DS wanted to eat in the Countries somewhere, so we made our way into the World Showcase. I had a stop where all "driven crazy by Test Track" mom's have a stop and picked up one of these:

We continued our walk around the World. DS decided he wanted a nice place to eat (but he wanted pizza). We checked in over at...

It was about a 20min wait for something inside, but we could order right away if we wanted to eat outdoors. We opted for the outdoors (as no one really wanted to sit in the freezing cold). We were given a lovely table just off the side of the restaurant doors-best of both worlds, we didn't freeze but we did have a nice cool bit of air blowing our way.

We had an awesome waitress there on the ICP. She chatted with us about her experiences so far and told us how much she loved working for Disney. She was headed home soon, but had really enjoyed her stay in America.

We ordered the margherita flat bread pizzas - one with pepperoni and one without. And I got the pistachio gelato for desert. Everything was wonderful!!

The boys wanted another ride on TT. Standby was still nuts, but they were willing to do single rider. The wait there was listed at 30min, so we got in line. I want to say this is where we didn't have the option to create a car-only given ready-made cars to pick from to put on your card and then passed through into the line.

After our rides, they boys had to hang around a bit in the Chevy shops once again. It was around 8:30 and I asked if they wanted to stick around for Illuminations or if they wanted to head back to the room because if they did, we needed to head out before the crowds. They opted to head back to the room to have a swim and relax for the evening. I headed into Everything POP to get some milk for our cereal in the morning and some bananas.

*FYI-since we flew Southwest, rather than place an order from GG (and since I was unsure of whether or not we would get a fridge) I packed a small suitcase with cereal, PopTarts, and snack items and sent that through with ME tags. I figured, if it got lost, no big deal. Meanwhile, we carried our suitcases with our clothing onto the plane. DH is a diabetic, so I had called ahead to request a fridge because of the need for his insulin to be kept chilled. I knew we may not get one, so I didn't want to have milk or extra items ordered that would need a fridge in case that didn't happen. Long story short, when we arrived to our room, we did not have a working fridge, but a quick call to front desk and housekeeping did get a fridge to our room with no trouble at all. POP was awesome with this! (you will soon learn of our not so awesome BC experience)

Around 11 we finally decided to head off to sleep-after telling the boys it was time to pack up the Nintendo Games for the night.

Next up: Rope Drop!!! Where could we be headed so bright and early you ask? You'll just have to wait and see.

That was very nice of the CM to give ya'll fastpasses to Test Track! Like you said, it's the little things that Disney does that makes it magical.

I'm with you on sticking around the Chevy area after riding Test Track. I could totally do without it and am ready to move on to something else.
