Back...Nickelodeon trip report

I booked directly through the hotel. Look under the Hot Deals /Specials tabs and they should have a half off special or 40% off special. I got the cheapest room available which is an ADA 1 bedroom Oasis section(was upgraded to Lagoon. I suggest just paying for Lagoon because Oasis is closed Monday-Friday) .My 1 bedroom was $77.10 per night and included the King Bed master bedroom and full kitchen/pull out couch. It's plenty of space for a family of four or more like 2 adults/2 kids. Themed bedrooms are not necessary you wont miss it. Save that extra cash.

The pool closes at 1:00 pm for a half hour pool cleaning .

There was a ton of chairs available. Nick Hotel was really quite empty there was no lines for any of the slides .

The pool hours are 9:00 am -10:00 pm for the Lagoon section. The slides dont open until 9:30 a.m. and they close at 9:30 p.m.

You can use the pool before you get in your room but bring your own towels because you have to sign for a towel with your room number.

I loved my experience at Nick Hotel but I would NEVER go during summer or spring break. September/October is best because most kids are in school . If you go during summer expect chaos and paying rack rate for your room .

Thanks for all the info. Very helpful. We are going in late August and fortunately, most kids are back in school and we plan to just do 2 nights there, during the week and just hang out at the hotel. Hopefully it won't be AS busy as prime time summer season, but we'll just take our chances and see :)

Thanks for the trip review. We're going down to Disney in a couple of years, and I'm hoping to spend a day at the Nick Resorts before heading for WBC. Your review answered a lot of my questions, but it also gave me a few more questions.

We checked in and the room was not ready so we headed to Guest Services to make reservations for shows.

What shows do you have to make reservations for?

The receptionist was very nice but I warn you...they are evil timeshare people! She slyly got me to answer some questions reguarding my income and it did not register to me until I saw a Vistana tag on her shirt.

I'm assuming they're selling at the Visitana. Actually, I may reconsider staying at Wyndham Bonnet Creek if I could trade into the Visitana...if I could get the Nick Hotel perks (water park, access to the characters and character meals). Highly doubt it.

I was like wait why is she asking me this ?! She said something about Nickelodeon dollars and seeing if I qualified. I answered truthfully I did'nt qualify( $70,000 a year if you are single).

What are Nickelodeon dollars? And $70,000/year as a single parent seems low for not wanting to talk to you about timeshares. My DH and I don't make too much more than that as a married couple. And we own two weeks. Bought retail, through the developer. (Yeah, I know. Big mistake. But that was 15-20 years ago).

We visited the arcade and it was small but the kids enjoyed it. We also saw Dora/Diego with no lines as well as Spongebob/Patrick within that first hour!

So Dora, Diego, Spongebob and Patrick are all accessible throughout the day? Cool. My DGD are huge fans of all four. In fact, she's fans with almost all of the Nick cartoon characters.

What other Nick characters did you see? (e.g. Bubble Guppies, Blue, Backyardigans etc)

I got a text when the room was ready and it was quite a walk. The layout is wierd . Im just glad I was in the Lagoon section because Oasis was VERY far and that water park is closed during the weekdays.

The bad reviews about Nick Hotel are NOT true. The room was cool when we entered. The couch was clean and the carpet was dry and appeared to be clean. The bathroom was very clean and I :lovestruc the bed . It was very plush! I have a difficult time falling asleep and within minutes of laying on this bed I was knocked out. I found out that it is a Simmons HealthSmart Signature Plush .I'm so going to buy this mattress!!

I forgot..how many kids did you have? I'm thinking a one bedroom will be enough for us. There'll be three adults and one child that night.

We got out at 5:00 pm to get ready for the Spongebob Crabby Patty Celebration . It was a cute show. I expected more though :confused3

What exactly is that?

We had about an hour before Slime Time Live was supposed to start and so I decided to purchase wristbands for the 4D movie experiences. The wristbands are 12.95 each plus tax.I spent 27.95 on our wristbands . (3 years and younger are free) I would like to say I enjoyed the movies but honestly I did not. The theater is FREEZING cold.I kid you not..make sure you bring a winter coat if you watch the movies there! I was so uncomfortably cold I could not enjoy the movies I paid for. The effects just make you colder with the wind and the spontaneous water splashes . I thought the spongebob 4D movie was the best one. I loved the pickle juice smell effect  The craziest part of the whole thing is each movie is 10 minutes long and they'd have a 6 minute break. The theater had maybe six families in the whole thing and after each movie we had to leave ...and come back!! It was so stupid. The movie ends and you'd have to file out the back door...go back through the entrance of the mall wait two minutes and come back in for the next movie!!

I can't say this enough...bring a coat to the theater!! It really is that cold in there. I did not see the last two movies because I could'nt bare to sit through that cold any longer. I felt like it was a waste of money because we only had one day to see the movies but if you were staying longer the wristbands would be a great deal.

How many movies were there, and who all were in it?

Does one of the movies feature Dora and Diego trying to capture a motorized swiping bird or bug? If so, we've seen that one at our local zoo.

We also had no desire to do the character breakfast because the characters were always out . We met all the characters many times over. I loved that about the Nick Hotel. No obnoxious long lines like Disney .

That's good to hear. I thought we'd have to get a character meal in order for her to meet all of her faves. We'll probably have to get a Disney character meal though. That said, right now, she'd probably rather meet Dora, Diego, Blue and Spongebob than Ariel, Belle, Cinderella and Aurora. Although, right now, she is in a Mickey Mouse phase.

We really enjoyed Nickelodeon Hotel ,ignore the bad reviews it's very clean and fun .

Sounds like you had fun. It may be because you went during the off-season. We will too.

Actually, I wish there were a few more Nick Hotels. We'd make a weekend of it, if it was within reasonable driving distance.

Glad all worked out for you! You posted on the budget board about a budget vacation and I was appalled at the direction your thread took. Good for you for making it work!

Sadly, there are a few folks who don't know when to shut up. We will assume they make everyone around them miserable as well.:lmao:

I think that is an awesome way to spend the weekend. I have stayed on WDW property the last three times we have went and this will be the first time with free dining. In February I took a $300 gift card and we also had $45 in GC for a DVC tour. I think I only spent about $50 more on my debit card for our 7 night trip. We ate our lunches at TS and got souvenirs. I always go on a budget. Right now I have gift cards for Bubba Gump and Hard Rock Cafe for our two days at Universal. Gift cards are my favorite thing to buy when I am planning a trip.

I think for 3 adults and 1 child a 1bdroom wouldnt be big enough unless the adults are really more like teens or are ok with sharing a bed??? you would have to have 2 adults sharing the king bed and the other adult and child sharing a couch..... wouldnt be our cup of tea......

What exactly is that?

If you get a one bedroom, two will have to share a sofa bed. Not sure if you can get a roll away.

I remember last year we saw Squidward and the Fairly Odd Parents walking around. A couple of years before that, DS and DH went to the character breakfast and saw, in addition to the characters already mentioned in this thread, Blue and the Rugrats. But no one really knows who the Rugrats are anymore!

This may sound dumb. What is free dining??

DisneyWorld offers Free Dining during certain times of the year. It is normally the last two weeks of August and September. It's hurricane season and a slower time at Disney.

You have to book with at least the first day of your trip on a Free Dining date to get Free Dining for your stay (up to 14 nights, unless UK visitor). You pay rack rates for the room and depending on what resort level you get the QSDP (value) or the DDP for free. You also need to purchase tickets for each person in the room, 2 day minimum now. You can upgrade to a higher dining plan and pay the difference if you wish.

I liked the nick hotel too. I agree that the themed room really isnt worth it. It is just wallpaper in the kids room.

We also saw The Last Airbender (had to ask someone who he was), Sandy the Squirrel and Jimmy Neutron.

Just because your experience was ok doesn't mean the other reports were wrong. I've read more against than for the hotel.

Tell us about your experience, was it good or bad?

Mine, like the OP was good, I'd say many of the bad reports were "wrong" as people had unrealistic expectations of the Hotel. It's a rebranded Holiday Inn, not a deluxe resort.

I'm so glad you had fun! I didn't read your other thread so I can't comment on that. We stayed at the Nick hotel a couple of years a go and liked it pretty well. There was a lot of room and my husband and I liked having our own bedroom. The microwave made it easy to save on food (yes, I'm cheap about that too!). I hated the time share people and the resort fee though. The hot tub was awesome though since it was February when we were there.

My kids are too old for Nick now, we stay at Shades of Green. All in all for the price, I think Nick was fun and especially if you have younger kids.

Thank you for the information. It sounds like a good deal.

OP, thank you for your review. It sounds like you had a fun getaway with your children. I also don't see anything wrong with having to go on a trip with a strict budget. Sometimes things work out that way. It doesn't mean that someone is irresponsible financially or living beyond their means. If everyone had to wait until they always had a large amount of disposable income to go on a trip, many families wouldn't be able to go anywhere or do anything. Back to the trip report. I have also been very torn about the reviews I've read about the Nickelodeon resort. Some of the negative reviews seem really off the wall like they were made up or like the reviewer had expectations that weren't realistic or practical for a family/kid oriented hotel. Reviews like your review (that are more balanced and can provide clear examples of both the pros and cons of the hotel) are the ones I pay more attention to. Thank you for letting us know that the characters are always out and about at this hotel and that the character breakfast isn't really necessary. After paying out of pocket for Disney's character breakfasts, I don't think I am going to be willing to do that elsewhere if it's not necessary. I also agree with your view that the Nick hotel would definitely be more busy/chaotic in the summer months, as it is a popular destination for Florida residents and other guests looking for a fun summer getaway with their kids without having to spend thousands on a Disney trip. We are considering surprising our kids with a trip to the Nick hotel towards the end of next August and combining our stay here with a trip to Sea World. I am not sure I will feel right about being in Orlando and not going to a Disney park  I will have to find some reasonably priced way to get my Disney fix  Thank you again for your review and I am glad everything worked out for you and your family.

I need to ask, if you booked directly with the Nick hotel, how did you not know about the resort fee and the credit card (cash hold) of $100 until just before you were leaving? :confused3 Like I said in that thread, it is on their website... if you found their specials, you should have found that. I also would have thought they would tell you on the phone when you were booking. Without a credit card, how did you get them to make the ressie? Did you have to send in the money?

I am glad that it did work out for you & your children. I am very glad that your children had a good time

Sorry to hear you got bashed here on the Dis!! Not sure why people feel the need to do that.:confused3 Thankfully, most of the people aren't that way. But, the few that are seem to post a lot. I am glad you had a good trip!! We have gone on many a budget vacation and have always had a good time. It isn't about the money it's about the memories!!;)

I didnt see your last thread but dont understand why people would bash you for being a single mom with 2 kids traveling to wdw? I am a widow with 2 kids, we went last year for 2 days because I was worried I would be overwhelmed but it went great and this Nov we are going for 10 days, why should our kids have to miss out on Disney because we are single moms?

The bashing in this boards can get serious. I see you are pretty new but it is against the rules to start a thread about a close thread. I am not trying to say you are lying or anything like that I am just a little curious. You said your kids were handed balloons at check-in . AKL policy says "Balloons - Guests are asked to leave any balloons they purchase with Bell Services to be stored in the Luggage Room. Balloons pose a health risk to the animals if they were to get into the savanna." http://allears.net/acc/faq_kidani.htm

The reason I am asking this is because when we were there DH took me there for my birthday and of course he thought about balloons but he was no able to carry on his idea because of the restriction. I am glad you had fun on your trip.
::yes:: While it's great that the OP got to vent once again at the posters she feels attacked her based on information she provided in the original thread, she may want to now consider deleting the first few paragraphs of that post - the ones referring to the closed thread. Just treat this thread like a brand new one, unrelated to anything that appeared in the last week.
