Back last night with DD4 and DS8

Just wondering how your kids did in the heat. We leave in six, yes six!!!!! days. I've got our schedule, as far as what park we will do each day and meals and I've tried to work plenty of rest/downtime into them, but lately I've been wondering about the heat and how that will affect us, especially our five year old.

Did you stay all day in the parks, or take breaks and come back? Thanks for any other tips you can offer!

I am not the original OP, but we also just returned and I have a dd who turned 5 on the trip (we also have ds 8 and 9 and dd 6 months). The heat was a factor, but it really was not a detriment to our trip. We planned for the heat, stayed on site (CBR), visited water parks, took afternoon breaks at the resort) and took fans, misters, and hats. Oh, and most important heat tip...eat one Mickey head ice cream each day...it really helps :-)

We stayed offsite but we only had one really hot day. the first day we were there, it was in the mid 90's but there was no humidity. the sun was baking us all, including the 4 year old in the stroller. we bought a lot of cold water and when we stopped for any reason we always found a spot in the shade. I also wiped down her face a few times when i saw her turning red. the rest of the days it was cool and rained for several hours. we were prepared for quick thunderstorms like we experienced last year but this year we got rainstorms and ended up just leaving the parks after 2 hours of downpour. we could only tolerate a 4 year old and a poncho and a stroller and a poncho for so long.

Whenever you can, walk through a store to cool off. We watched the parade outside of an airconditioned store last week, and some of the airconditioning made it to our spot on the street.

Any questions?

Did you use a stroller for the 4-yr-old? If you did, at which parks? My son will be a month shy of 5 when we go, he's a kid that doesn't take naps and can go for hours like the energizer bunny, wondering if I'll need to consider a stroller. We're planning on taking breaks and going back to hotel for pool/rest time. Any advice appreciated.

we used a stroller everyday at every park for the 4 year old. we were both set against it but then we got there the first day and decided why not. the strollers you rent at MK, Epcot and AK are all basically the same, the child is pretty sheltered from rain but they are not too comfortable to sleep in. the one at MGM is less sheltered but more comfy to nap in. our little one does not nap either but napped everyday in the stroller. my suggestion is get the stroller because the excitement, standing in lines, etc is going to wear him out enough. by the middle of the week he will probably be overall tired enough that the stroller will help make it through the day. also, we took a backpack, 4 waterbottles with straps and 2 cameras into the park and the stroller made carrying all this stuff very easy. we even left it on the stroller while we were on rides and had no problems. One more thing, if your little one has a drink and a snack and sunglasses and a little fan, you give all that stuff to him at the start of the day, he has it in the stroller with him and you are not stopping every 15 minutes to give him something.
