AHHHH, it's good to be "home"! I felt lilke at AKV we were "just visiting", but this truly does feel like home. DH especially feels that way. We both loved the animals at AKV, but the inconvenience of the units and the hallways etc, made him spend the whole week wishing we were at OKW. Well, now we ARE at OKW, and we are ready to relax!

One issue is that the tiles are missing from the toe space under the vanity in the toilet/shower room. It looks like they kind of didn't really finish the rehab onm this 1 bedroom unit. We are in 4621...YES, my favorite buildings!!!

We have a nice water view with a good view of building 55 and the South Point Pool area as well.

Now, if we could move some of these OKW buildings to the AKV savanna, I'd have the best of both worlds and be truly happy! We have decided after this trip that we are going to use AKV for 3-4 days on either end of a trip instead of trying to do whole trips there. We are going to treat AKV as a destination vacation, and continue to use OKW as our Disney vacation.

Diane...glad to hear that you are enjoying your trip, and that you were able to get into your favorite section of OKW. :thumbsup2

Have a great trip! :)

Lucky you! Bldg 46 and 2nd floor! I'm picturing the beautiful canal view :)

Interesting about the toe space...is there just nothing there, or is it filled in somehow like they just aren't putting tile there anymore?

Glad you are back at your TRUE DVC home! I know what you mean, I think we will feel the same way. AKV will be a great place to visit, but I don't think we'll want to "live" there. Something about that "Ahhhh" feeling when you first walk into the villa...maybe it's just us Minnesotans! Have a wonderful stay!:cool1:

It's just the bare wood where the tiles were torn off. Everything else in this unit is brand new, so either it was an oversight or something went wrong, and they have to finish later. I'm going to go down to the front desk today and mention it. I need to call maintenance anyway today to get the bulb replaced above the Jacuzzi.

Lucky you. I love OKW and we stayed 2nd floor building 46 in April last year for two weeks and it was fabulous. People may moan about OKW being old but we love it and the space in the rooms.

Hope you have a brilliant vacation:thumbsup2

Hi, Diane,
I rather figured you were at WDW, since I don't think you've posted on the 100+ page points reallocation thread these past few days. I'm sure you know that temps in the frozen tundra are still below average (and average is too cold!), so grab a few extra rays to tide you over until spring. I think you're in the 80° range in Orlando--lucky you!

Welcome home fellow Minnesotans. We are just finishing our 12 day vacation here at Old Key West. There is no place like home like Old Key West. We are at our favorite spot, Bldg 19, next to quiet pool and bus stop. This has been our first vacation without child and wife retirement trip. It doesn,t get much better. Going home on Friday, but only 6 weeks of cold left

We loved OKW last year! We may be headed back there next summer. Awesome resort!

I know what you mean. OKW has always been the "real" DVC to us. We always compare to newer resorts to OKW and they rarely hold up to OKW standards. For us, OKW is DVC.

Enjoy your trip!
About 5 more months until we get to check in at OKW!

Stayed at OKW two years ago in a 1BR-couldn't get over how big it seemed-and the patio! Have wonderful trip and enjoy the warm weather!

I wouldn't own DVC if it were not for OKW. It is truly the only DVC resort I care about staying in.:thumbsup2

Since building 46, 2nd floor seems to be a great location, do you guys request it that way? If not, what do you request?

I always say we would have never bought another WDW DVC and there is "no place like home" it doesn't bother us when people post about how they "hated" OKW - more availability for us. But of course, then we also fell in love with Vero and Hilton Head and had to buy points there!

:cool1: :thumbsup2 :goodvibes :) :cheer2: pixiedust:

I have a couple of updates here. First of all the maintenance department called ME before I called them about the missing tile! They apologized for the missing tile and said they had to replace the vanity because of some issues with the previous occupant. The person who called also said they had planned to move us before we got checked in, but someone didn't get the message. The gist of it is that they are going to come in tomorrow morning while we are gone to fix it. They said they would need about 3 hours, so we will head to a park in the morning, and when we get home for our break in the afternoon, they should have the new tile installed.

I have been scratching my head trying to figure out what in the world the previous occupants could have done to cause that much damage, but I sure hope they made them pay for it!!!

Buses have mostly been great both here and at AKV. We had one day from AKV where the MK bus didn't come for more than a half hour, and so many folks were backed up, it took more than two buses to transport them. We are seeing lots of buses marked with things like DHAKL or DHOKW etc. It stands for Dead Head OKW, and it's a bus that is sent when there are crowds reported at a specific stop etc. I'm thinking the new bus system with the GPS must be working.

NEWS from Hospitality House! Half of the HH units are currently out of service, so if you are being bumped from HH catagory recently, that's why. Buildings 23, 24, 25, and 26 are closed and even fenced off so their parking lots aren't even available. I can't tell if they are refurbing both exterior and interior, bur for sure they are all closed.

Hey Diane, great report. If you get a chance, can you ask if the HH units will be done by Mid-March. We are scheduled to arrive on March 15 for a 7 night stay. Doesn't really matter one way or the other, but it would be nice to know up front.

I'll try to ask questions when I check out on Saturday.
