We got home last night from a wonderful stay at the YC. WE loved the hotel but felt like every business person on the planet was there. There must have been 3 or 4 convention groups there during our short 5 day stay. The hotel itself was wonderful , however the business crowds were quite annoying- very loud and it made it feel a bit more crowded. WE loved being able to do the character breakfast and clam bake right next door which was soo nice and convient! The pool was AMAZING and not overly crowded. WE would stay in this area again but maybe at the beach club or boardwalk next time!

Thanks for the update. Is the BC less likely to get conventioneers than the YC?

Glad you had a great trip! We love the Epcot resorts area.

I would say yes, since the convention center is at the YC.

Welcome Back!

Glad you had a great time. I would agree with Cool Disney Cat concerning the BC having fewer "conventioneers". We prefer the BC over the YC.

We usually stay at the BC when we stay in that area of the "World".

We will be at the GF in July and then the BC in October. :thumbsup2

Yeah, but have you ever been to the Contemp? Talk about convention crowds! We're trying YC for the first time this Dec., after having been twice (and loving, for many reasons, the Contemp) and I'm guessing the business types are worse at the Contemp -- but hey, we'll have fun no matter!

I would say, "it depends". I attended a convention this past March at the Swan/Dolphin and many of us were put up at the BC. I was thrilled, to say the least!!!!!

The best thing about having conventioners at your hotel usually mean less crowds at the pool, which is great for SAB because it can get really crowded.

I don't understand why conventioneers would bother anyone. Like MinnieFan said, it means less people at the pool (during certain hours, anyway). Plus it's not like they're preventing you from enjoying yourself.

I got to stay at the Yacht Club one night due to overflow at the Swan. It is a beautiful resort. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

ETA - I just reread your post and saw you said they were very loud. So odd, I always thought most conventioneers were more mellow. Oh well, at least you enjoyed your trip!

When I was at the BC there was a big convention going on, but we didn't notice that it was at all crowded. I think the convention guests were all at the YC during the day and not at our hotel! :) Whenever my dad goes to Disney for a convention he is always over at the Yacht Club.

Can't wait for our first stay at YC this September. Hopefully, the resort will be full of conventioners so that SAB won't be crowded. DH can't wait to play there! :teeth:

There were a lot of conventioneers at the YC when we were there last year, but we really didn't have any problems with them. The only way I even knew they were there was because we saw lots of people in business dress with briefcases in the halls.

It seemed that a lot of these people were travelling without their families. I did meet one lady in the laundry room who was down with her family while her husband was at the convention.

They must have had most of their meals catered because we never saw more than a couple of them in the restaurants. Since a good deal of the hotel patrons were at meetings, the buses were never crowded. We only saw a few of what I assumed to be conventioneers at the quiet pool.

I have to say, that even if I knew there was a big convention going on at the YC, I would definitely stay there again. We never knew these folks were at the hotel. One of our favorite things about the YC is how quiet it is. I think the people attending this particular convention were especially careful not to disturb other guests.

Of course, the YC is our favorite, and we would probably stay there even if they were holding the Olympics in the lobby!!!! ;)

We have stayed at both the YC and the Boardwalk. Loved them both for different reasons.

When we were at the Boardwalk we were actually with a convention group and we weren't the only convention there. The hotel was very peaceful, more of a melancholy feel to it. The quiet pool was great because we were the only ones using it for the first 2 days of the convention. We were given 1/2 day passes to the parks which were very nice because about the time we were going the crowds were leaving. In the mornings I would get up, go for a walk all the way around the Boardwalk and stop off at the Bakery to get some breakfast for the kids and I (it was so peaceful and calming). There was plenty of shopping right in that area, tons of food choices and plenty of entertainment. The staff was friendly and as far as the convention peoples they were so caught up in the convention activities that they could have cared less what we were doing (they were never rude or anything just preoccupied).

At the YC we had the exact opposite experience. We never noticed any convention types, there were always people around, the pool was always busy and everyone seemed to be in a hurry. All of this was perfectly fine with us because we were in the same mode, VACATION. Again we loved this resort! The hotel itself is beautiful and has a very inviting decor. The pool is amazing and we personally think it is the best of all the Disney pools we have seen! In the evenings we would go over to the Boardwalk and rent a bike to drive around which made us feel like we were right in the middle of the fun! The shopping and food were equal since we used the same place but this location has the advantage of being that much closer to Beaches and Cream (our families favorite). Again the staff was great and the vacation crowd seemed a little less friendly than the convention crowd (they were probably exhausted from all of the fun).

So I guess what I am saying is honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either resort. It is always good to try new things (change is good). If you find one you don't like, try another and it my fit you better. Personally I don't think at Disney there is a single resort you wouldn't like (what's not to like) but maybe one may be a better fit for you than another.
