Back from Wonderland:wAlice,Madhatter,ChesCat&White Rabbit 11/11Thank You

Oh man, I finally get the chance to read your Pirates update and your pictures are gone! I hope your kiddos are feeling better.

Wave-ing & Cruising with Pirates...

When we came out of the Pirates League-the sky was angry. I mean really, really angry. The sky was black and gray and the wind was blowing...Hatter threw Rabbit on his back and I grabbed Alice's hand-so as to not get seperated. We had dinner reservations at the Wave and our main objective at this moment was to get out of the park-as quickly as possible to hopefully avoid getting soaked...and I must say I was impressed how quickly we were able to move under threat of torrential downpour...We made it out of Adventureland down and around the CP onto and down Main Street and through the exit in about 5 minutes...

We hopped it over to the monorail for our short ride to the Contemporary-but since we had some extra time we decided to do the whole monorail loop one time...we had ridden it very little during this trip...and I had a whim to take a go around...it had started to rain...it looked heavier in one direction...and in the other-it actually looked like it was clearing up...This Mid-Alantic girl is totally perplexed by the whims of Florida weather...the seemingly violent downpours-followed by Bright Sunshiny Skies all within an hour...

So we looped around...Contemporary, TTC, Poly and the Grand Floridian before the MK and back to the Contemporary...off we got...and Alice, Rabbit and I were going to take a quick go through the gift shop while Hatter found out exactly where the Wave was and where we needed to check in for the Pirates and Pals cruise. The Contemporary always feels like "something" is going on...it reminds me a little of NYC in that way-the City that never sleeps...Everytime I've been in the Contemporary it seems like there's all kind of fun stuff going on...people checking in for ADRs at Chef Mickey's or checking in the hotel for their vacations...It was making me a little bit melancholy this night because I knew it was our last night...and tomorrow would be our last day for this trip...Anyhow I wasn't sad enough not to want to look around the gift shop... Did anyone ever notice how sometimes you can see the same merchandise-but somehow in a different environment you notice it differently and for some reason it appeals to you even more...What is up with that?...Disney Marketing at its finest...We picked up a little candy for Rabbit during the cruise-but it would subsequently become obvious to us that this wasn't actually necessary...

So it was time to check in at the Wave...

100_1035-2.jpg

Hmmm...the Wave...I'm struggling with writing this because there were many really good things about it but yet when all is said and done in the end...It just didn't Wow me but I'm still not sure why-It could be because of several reasons...1. I was really nervous it was going to rain and we would miss our cruise that evening...2. We had eaten at Sanaa earlier in the day and I was in love with it-so it was a hard act to follow...3. The Wave was very crowded that night-maybe because of Free Dining and 4. I think it has a bit of a split personality...It wants to be green/organic and trendy/urban/chic at the same time...and I'm not sure it was fully pulling that combo off yet...I'd like to see it focus on being one or the other...

We got there at our ADR time but were still given a buzzer...there is a large very attractive urban-chic kind of bar-very grownup IMHO-with two alcoves with sofas where you can enjoy drinks or apps...(I think this would be a very cool place to go out if you wanted a drink or two with your friends...)

We were seated fairly quickly-there is one large dining room with several smaller ones off of it...the decor again continues to be modern and kind of chic...we were at a table but there are also some rather large and cozy booths on the sides...

Our server was very nice but seemed like she was working at full capacity-it was clear she was very busy-every table was full...I was really curious about the menu-I had read that Disney was trying to do some "green, organic" kinds of cuisine here...but unless you had read this before-I think that theme fell by the wayside...there were a couple of mentions of produce or meats/fish being local but nothing much more than that...

There were some nice choices on the menu...

100_1033-2.jpg

100_1034-2.jpg

100_1039-2.jpg

100_1040-2.jpg

Alice and I split a watermelon and arugula salad-it had some feta in it and had a nice contrast between sweet and salty. Hatter had the Avocado and Citrus Salad...which was also good...For my entree I had Cinnamon-rubbed Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with Honey-roasted Root Vegetables and Apple Cider Sauce, Alice had Grilled Marinated Flank Steak - with seasonal vegetables, chimichurri and guacamole and Hatter had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin - with oven- dried tomatoes, roasted fingerling potatoes, cabernet sauce and local greens. Rabbit had a trusty cheeseburger. I found my Pork a little dry but still tasty...Alice's steak was nice and Hatter's Beef Tenderloin was really quite good...

100_1037-2.jpg

100_1036-2.jpg

100_1038-2.jpg

Dessert here is fun...There are a number of trios-each items on the trio is several bites...we got three different trios and passed them around...We had Creamy Indulgence - Cheesecake with Raspberry Coulis, Coconut Panna Cotta with Passion Fruit Drizzle, or Chocolate-Passion Fruit Mousse with Pecan-Olive Brittle, Decadent Flavors - Blueberry Compote with Yogurt Gelato, Lemon Cornbread with Vanilla Panna Cotta, or Chocolate Mousse with Salted Caramel Sauce and Freshly Crafted Sorbets - Lemon-basil, Pineapple or Strawberry (and yes I cut and pasted right from the menu)...the desserts were all good and fun to share and served in a really fun style...Hatter and I both had glasses of wine...

100_1043-2.jpg

100_1042-2.jpg

100_1041-2.jpg

So on the surface of it-it was a really tasty, pleasant meal-so I keep asking myself why I didn't love it...I think it comes back to expectations...I think I was expecting something different. I really think it would be a awesome idea for Disney to do a restaurant that focused on green issues/and used local products...that to me would probably have (for lack of a better word) warmer feel to it...as it was I found the decor a little sterile...I could have been in a restaurant in New York or Washington or LA...which isn't a bad thing-I just wanted something different...Even though say the CG is modern and a bit urban-it still has a sense of place...you know you're in WDW (also the fact that you can see the castle doesn't hurt...) The Wave doesn't have that same sense of place to me but no doubt you can get a tasty meal there and I would definitely think about trying it again...their breakfast menu really appeals to me...so I'm sure I'll be back there at some point...

So onward and upward time to check in for our Cruise with Pirates and Pals...I have to admit I was really looking forward to this-kind of like a 5 year old at Christmas and I was real hoping the weather stayed clear...

There is a check in table up on -I think it was the fourth floor-where you check your group in and everyone gets a bandana which you are supposed to wear somewhere on your person to show you are with the group...The times are based on when Wishes is being held-in our case Wishes was at 10-initial check in was at 8:15...There is a large area that you sit/can use the restrooms until the festivities begin at 8:30. At 8:30-two pirate helpers-ours were named Patch and Patchy-and they were extremely funny-If I didn't know better I would say they had been drinking a bit of rum before hand-but this being Disney-it's doubtful...umm I think it's doubtful...

100_1052-2.jpg

There is a cordoned off area that you are allowed into that has...snacks and water and coffee and tea. Amongst the snacks are granola bars, bags of chips, pretzels and the real crowd pleaser, cotton candy...

WARNING: The following may be a bit much for those sensitive souls among us...(myself included)

Once the group realized that these snacks were not only free but no one was monitoring (including Patch and Patchy who actually made some pretty funny comments on what they were witnessing-) what anyone was taking-things got a bit dicey-it was as if people really turned into pirates and thought they should stock up in case they were away from land for a couple of days...I never saw bags of chips or granola bars move so fast in my life...and the Cotton Candy-you don't want to go there...it had to be seen to be believed...some people were sweeping the items on the tables into their hand bags as if their lives dependent...the one thing that broke up the madness was the arrival of the special Pirate guest...and I don't think I'm giving anything away that can't be easily found on line...Captain Hook and Mr. Smee...luckily we had gotten down and away from the snack madness so were right there when they started signing autographs and taking pictures...It was great...

100_1044-2.jpg

100_1048-2.jpg

100_1046-2.jpg

100_1049-2.jpg

100_1050-2.jpg

Patch and Patchy in the mean time were reminding everyone to get to the restrooms before we went out to the boats...because there were no restrooms...and "there was to be no poop on the poop deck"-this just gives you an idea of the humor...(Jen & LL I'd have a drink ahead of time-just one-you will be on the water...)

Finally everyone met Hook and Smee and we were seperated into Two groups-the Hook Group and the Smee Group...(2 boats) We got the Hook boat and Captain Hook escorted us down to our boat at the dock at the Contemporary...we got a seat close to the front and when all loaded...we waved buy to Hook and set off on our cruise-it was about 9ish...

100_1058-2.jpg

We got to see the Electric Light Pageant which I think is really cute and very pretty close up...We sailed around on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Patch asked lots of trivia questions for prizes-little prized but cute nevertheless...(bone up on your Nemo, Little Mermaid and PoC trivia...) and the silly pirate humor...I had to laugh despite myself...it was a bit corny, very funny and slightly irreverent...Patch was extraordinarily entertaining but don't engage him unless you are willing to be the butt of his jokes...

100_1061-2.jpg

100_1062-2.jpg

Anyway-we finally got to the part with Wishes...It was so magical being on the water and seeing it without getting an elbow to the side and those Fireworks are just so spectacular-I didn't want them to end...but end they did- so we headed back to the dock-where another special guest was waiting for us...Peter Pan...

100_1064-2.jpg

100_1065-2.jpg

100_1066-2.jpg

100_1067-2.jpg

100_1068-2.jpg

Well, he was a great Peter-really into character and joking with Alice and Rabbit-in fact I think that Alice was a little taken with Peter-he was well not much taller than her-she's 5'4" but he was- well a little broader and buffer than your usual Peter...Hatter actually felt he was bad casting but I think that's because it bothered him that Alice was crushing a teeny bit...

Finally, very tired but happy-the four of us got a cab in front of the Contemporary back to the AKL for our last night...

That cruise sounds so fun! So glad the weather held out for you! What a shame about the greediness...:confused3

Denise

What a great update!!! This got me all types of excited for my cruise in January!! I can't wait!! Guess I will need to brush up on my Nemo...that's the one I'm the least familiar with and I love me some Disney trivia!!

Ummm I might have some of the cotton candy but I promise I will not take a whole bunch home with me, that is a bit ridiculous LOL!

Eeeee!! I am so very excited for the Pirates & Pals cruise!! WOO HOO!! pirate:

Great review of the cruise. Hehehe.

Loved the update, Patricia. And I was especially delighted to read this note about the lounge area there. One of the joys of traveling with grown children is the ability to "bar hop" at the World. One night during our December trip we planned a monorail progressive drinking party and now I know where we will try at the Contemporary!

Oh, Goodness! I'm so sorry your family is under the weather...

GREAT advice regarding the PL - Dads don't always know that you can tell a make-up artist "less is more!"

No clue on the PTR title...but glad you are writing about your wonderful trips!

Best,

Jaime

I know that the Contemporary has a convention center. Perhaps, in part, the renovations of the resort as a whole were to attract companies to use CR as their conference/convention site. I think that's why the bar at the Wave has that upscale adult feel to it.

The Pirates Cruise looks fun. How far in advance do you have to book it? Is there info regarding the Cruise on WDW sites official and unofficial...Did the kids get more attention because they were dressed or did most kids dress up?

The cruise sounds like it would be fun...minus the craziness for snacks! :scared1: The lounge at the Wave also reminded me of some hip place in downtown NY, Chicago, LA..any big city, but thought they were very cool. And I agree with you about the CR - it's always busy and makes you feel like you have to go go go. And without looking out at a view in a room, I even said to DH that it felt like we were in NY or someplace, but not Disney.

Ok...I have done a lot of deep breathing...and I know that other Disers will understand this but I am really, really irritated...(I've cleaned up my language since this is a family channel...sort of...

But...

Yesterday-in an attempt to load some photos for me to photobucket...(I had asked him to because I was in the process of making 3 different diners for my patients-one for me and Hatter, one for Alice, one for Rabbit...

Hatter decided to "Help" me since things were looking a bit disorganized and He rearranged my photos and put everything in folders....

:scared1:

Does everyone else know what that means....?

I now have missing photos in my trip report-in fact my previous update has been wiped out of photos...

:scared1:

I understand he did this to be nice but WWWWWHHHHHHHHYYYYYY?

He feels badly-and not to be childish...I think he should...:headache:

I know I'm going to get over it but right now...:sad2:

Oh, I do hope your two babies feel better soon, and you stay healthy!!!

I like the side of French Fries title -- that's adorable!

Thanks......I feel like we have a little infirmary here...:sick:and I think that Hatter and I may be catching it...:upsidedow...but I'm going to channel the force to stay well...after all Princess Leia wouldn't succomb to illness at a time like this...:lmao:

You should consider it! It is so funny and perfect for your PTR title. :thumbsup2

I was joking at first but I am considering...it seems to be funny at least...;)

Sassy sounds MUCH sweeter! And yes, she would get into it though more so if she had a friend with her. Her Halloween costume this year is the bomb, I cannot wait to post pictures! I'm definitely keeping it on the radar...

Sassy does sound much sweeter...:thumbsup2...I can't wait to see the Halloween costumes-post the Es too...I'll post Rabbit and Alice...hopefully...:guilty:...they will be up to Halloween...the both have parties and stuff and school on Friday too...:confused3...(I'm praying they are up to going Thursday (tomorrow...)

Awww I'm so sorry to hear the kiddos are not feeling to well!! Please give them my get well wishes!!!!

I have to agree I also love the Title Back to Wonderland with a Side of Fries...too funny!!! LOVE IT!!

Can't wait to hear about the cruise!!

Hey Jen-I passed along your well wishes...and Rabbit had a certain gleam in his eye...;)...I told him we'd be checking your TRs-to watch for those exploding pumpkins...:thumbsup2

Hi Patricia!

I've been slowly catching up on your report for the past couple of days... still have a way to go... but I wanted to pop in and say "Hi!"

I'm really enjoying your writing!

Kathy

Hi-right back at you...:wave2:...You've had a bit of plate not to mention you are heading to the World... tomorrow...:woohoo:...have to come over for you're going away send off...:yay:

 I hear you. "Help" in any technological context is usually a bad thing. I know exactly what you mean about Photobucket, too. That will take serious time to fix!

Hatter decided to "Help" me since things were looking a bit disorganized and He rearranged my photos and put everything in folders....

Oh no!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1: I know what this means!! But I can still see your latest update!

It is really nice of him, to help you with your TR, and trying to sort things. Which actually is not fun on photobucket. I am sorry that his help ended up making more work for you...

Patricia, I hope your darling children get to feeling better soon and you and DH don't get any of their germs!

Thanks for the good wishes Elin...I'm not feeling in tip top shape but I think if DH and I were really going to catch something...We'd be down at this point...:confused3...so so far so good...:thumbsup2

Hope your kiddos feel better soon and don't miss the festivities at school!

Denise

Thanks Denise......you and me both

Oh man, I finally get the chance to read your Pirates update and your pictures are gone! I hope your kiddos are feeling better.

Thanks for the well wishes...photos missing...uuuhhhhhrrrrr....bad Hatter...he made them disappear in an attempt at being helpful...:headache:

That cruise sounds so fun! So glad the weather held out for you! What a shame about the greediness...:confused3

Denise

The weather turned out to be great...and the cruise was awesome...I'm not opposed to taking a few extra granola bars or water bottles but the sweeping off the table top into your tote bag seems a bit excessive...:confused3

What a great update!!! This got me all types of excited for my cruise in January!! I can't wait!! Guess I will need to brush up on my Nemo...that's the one I'm the least familiar with and I love me some Disney trivia!!

YOU ladies will have a blast...so much fun...a lot of the humor went right over the kid"s heads...Between you and Leslie-I'm sure you will probably know the answers to all the questions...:lmao::thumbsup2...

Oh you go and have as much cotton candy as you want-you still wouldn't make a dent in that mountain of cotton candy...:lmao:

Eeeee!! I am so very excited for the Pirates & Pals cruise!! WOO HOO!! pirate:

Great review of the cruise. Hehehe.

Hehehe...you guys will have so much fun in January...:woohoo:

I am so sorry about your pictures! I did that before not realizing all my pictures would be moved. :headache: :grouphug:

One night during our December trip we planned a monorail progressive drinking party and now I know where we will try at the Contemporary!

The Bar looks like fun...for bar hopping...I think you would have a blast there...:thumbsup2 (Actually that whole plan around the monorail sounds like fun...Contemporary...Poly...Grand Floridian... different kinds of drinks and different kinds of ambiances...and no worrying about driving home...Brilliant...:thumbsup2

Hey Mrs. Spratt-good to see you or read you as the case may be...:lmao:...
I know and you know that any of those "set looks"-can be modified (Hatter didn't seem to know...:confused3)...poor Rabbit-that's theatrical makeup they use for the Hook look... (You can see it around his eyes-you'd be able to make out his eyes on a lit stage across a darkened theatre... and it took me 10 tries (with make up wipes included) to get it off-some kids might have been ok with that-heck if Alice was in the mood for that kind of look -she's have been fine...Rabbit definitely needed a lighter touch...He isn't getting any make up for George Washington-just wig and costume...:lmao:

I know that the Contemporary has a convention center. Perhaps, in part, the renovations of the resort as a whole were to attract companies to use CR as their conference/convention site. I think that's why the bar at the Wave has that upscale adult feel to it.

The Pirates Cruise looks fun. How far in advance do you have to book it? Is there info regarding the Cruise on WDW sites official and unofficial...Did the kids get more attention because they were dressed or did most kids dress up?

The bar did look fun if you wanted to have a drink or two...:thumbsup2...I think the Comtemporary is doing a nice job at redoing their whole futuristic look into something more contemporary...modern and fun and definitely a little chic...

When we took the cruise-it was the second week they had been doing it...I believe it morphed from something they used to do for Grand Gatherings but in Disney's infinite ability to come up with charming and fun ways to part us from our money-some smart person realized they go do this for the rest of us and voila a steady income stream...;)

We did book it at 90 days out on the phone...like many Disney things-when they first start up-you can't do it on line-but I'll be that's changed...

Yes the kiddos probably got a bit more attention because they were made up...TheCms all made a fuss and when we were walking though the Contemporary-we had several families stop and ask us where they had that done...and Hook and Smee were beside themselves with excitement...very cute interactions...;)

Just back away carefully from the snack tables after you've selected something...:lmao:

Yes about the lounge at the Wave-i think that's what they were going for and I think they absolutely achieved it...it is a very "hip" look...but fun too...

Your room was lovely...like I said very modern and chic and well appointed...

 I hear you. "Help" in any technological context is usually a bad thing. I know exactly what you mean about Photobucket, too. That will take serious time to fix!

Oh no!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1: I know what this means!! But I can still see your latest update!

I am so sorry about your pictures! I did that before not realizing all my pictures would be moved. :headache: :grouphug:

Thanks for the sympathy ladies...I knew that you would get it....:grouphug:

He is a really good guy and a nice person...he was just trying to be helpful and if I killed him...the children would be sad and so would I (probably) after I've calmed down...

:stir:...hmmm....

What a perfect description for the "vibe" there!

Hmmm...the Wave...I'm struggling with writing this because there were many really good things about it but yet when all is said and done in the end...It just didn't Wow me I think it has a bit of a split personality...It wants to be green/organic and trendy/urban/chic at the same time...and I'm not sure it was fully pulling that combo off yet...I'd like to see it focus on being one or the other...

Sigh. You have hit on exactly why we haven't tried the Wave yet. It sounds nice. If I were going downtown at home for a night out. In looking at the menu I got the same feel, "wanna be" green...but not so much. And yet for a 1TS option/MK resort...it's on my list. Of course the "non" Disney-ishness of it may very well be welcomed by my in-laws as a respite. Assuming it makes the cut.

So onward and upward time to check in for our Cruise with Pirates and Pals...I have to admit I was really looking forward to this-kind of like a 5 year old at Christmas and I was real hoping the weather stayed clear...

Great pics, the kids look like they are really enjoying it. Although that might be Rabbit's makeup. It sounds like a LOVELY night and well worth it! Funny about Hatter and PP.

Oh no! I've thought about reorganizing some but the reality of relinking my pictures gives me heartburn. He meant well. I could see Jeff doing that....I actually started a shutterfly site for the family so they'd all stay out of photobucket. :rotfl:

The Bar looks like fun...for bar hopping...I think you would have a blast there...:thumbsup2 (Actually that whole plan around the monorail sounds like fun...Contemporary...Poly...Grand Floridian... different kinds of drinks and different kinds of ambiances...and no worrying about driving home...Brilliant...:thumbsup2

We will follow that up with a monorail trip to Epcot to finish out the night eating and drinking around the World Showcase!

Ok, I'm off to research the Pirates Cruise, now. My two little sisters have birthdays right around when we are going, this time. They both love pirates, and one of them has it really bad for Peter Pan. If he shows up every time, that seals it for me. I've got to get those girls on that cruise!
