In case any of you were wondering, we were in Playa del Carmen when Wilma hit us last week. We were supposed to come home last Saturday, but were still in the shelters until late that evening. Finally made it home early this morning out of the Merida airport. There are still many many people (mostly Americans) who still need to get home. As much of a horrific ordeal it was for us, I now know that we (our resort) were probably in the safest spot in the area. We also had electricity/generator, plenty of food, water, juice and coffee the entire time and plumbing most of the time. Most of us were even able to go back to our rooms on Saturday night and take hot showers before the plumbing went out. I even spent Monday and tuesday at the beach and some of it at one of the pools too. Many people had been in public shelters since the hurricane hit with no plumbing, electricity, food or water. Lets hope that everyone else makes it home safely and quickly.

Glad you made it out safely!! My parents were originally supposed to be in Playa del Carmen last week, but they rescheduled to this week a few months back because of a wedding. A day or two before the hurricane hit they were able to switch to Puerto Vallarta, so they managed to avoid the hurricane altogether, but they kept thinking that they would have been right in the middle of what you were in if they stayed with their original plans. :o :o

glad you are ok... sad you couldn't check out the places I gave you. But at least you are ok.

Glad you got out ok. CNN just did a piece today on the travelers still stuck there. Not pretty at all. I hope everyone gets out soon!

I have been following the resort damage closely. My husband and I are headed back to Riveria Maya to the Palladium for our 3rd visit in April. I have also been to the Iberostar Tucan.

Just wondering where you stayed (prior to evacuating).

:sunny:

Beth glad you are home. I sent your sister an email that I asked her to forward to you.

When you get a chance I want to hear all about the resort. Our trip is not until June so I'm sure things will be fine by then. Sorry you went through this. How was the trip before Wilma hit?

I can answer that. She was at the Iberostar Paraiso Beach side. We are going in June to the Del Mar side. Basically are the same hotel - they share restaurants and pool.

thanks I was wondering - I have been reading about the Iberostar from other web boards. I was at the Tucan in February and Iberostars do a great job.

Hey Jennifer - we are neighbors by the way - I live in Royersford

I am glad you are home safe. Your story is so much better than my brothers. He is still in Merida right now.

He was staying at the Riu Las Americas in Cancun. Arrived last Wednesday..one night in hotel....5 nights in a shelter with no running water, toilets, and very limited food. It was the worst HE*L for him and all those along with him. He said he would not wish the experience on his worst enemy.

He was bused to Merida by the US Embassy on Monday...9 hrs in a bus...only to arrive at 2am to an airport that was so full they stopped letting people in.

We were able to find them a hotel room to stay in and finally shower and sleep in a bed for the first time in 6 days. They are now in Merida until Friday am when they are finally able to get a flight out. So he should be home tomorrow night. finally 9 days later.

Glad to hear you like the Iberostars. My neighbors went to the Del Mar in JUly and the pictures were beautiful. I can't wait to go. I hope the people of Mexico can get their lives back together;. They are def. going to need us to visit to support them.

btw - Howdy neighbor - ever shop at Kohl's - It seems like I'm always there for something. Much easier than driving to the mall.

DH and I thought of the Cancun area for our honeymoon spot, we would have been there for Wilma had we picked it. We went to WDW instead. And people thought we were nuts!

We still had to come home a day early to be sure we got back before Wilma hit FL!

I'm glad you're okay, and I'm sure you've never felt so happy to be home from "vacation"!
