Greetings!
Yes, we're back - and we had a great trip. While I am going to work on a trip report, I wanted to report back on some of the things you folks asked me to look into while I was there.
1. New
DVC Resort. Well, I learned a lot. Of primary interest was a conversation with a DVC CM who actually worked in the little office right in one of the villa buildings. I asked point blank about the next DVC Resort, and here's what he said: "A DVC Resort at the CR has been approved, but will not be the next to be implemented." (That's a direct quote). He further said that they don't want to announce anything until they are 100% sure on all the details, as they don't want to disappoint owners who might make plans based on tentative info.
He also said that Jim Lewis attends DVC CM meetings and is always asked "what's the next DVC Resort going to be"; in fact, JL opened one meeting addressing that question before it could be asked. This CM also reads the DIS and said that's why they don't tell Guides/CMs anything, because they love to tell owners and within seconds it's on the internet!
I talked to another CM manning a kiosk on Sunset Blvd at MGM. She didn't have anything to add "to the rumors that are already on the DIS - that's where I get the latest unofficial info." So it seems that many, if not all, DVC CMs are tuned into the DIS!
2. New SSR Pool. We chatted with what appeared to be a manager at SSR's AP/Store (she was dressed in business apparel and said she had to close that night and the next, so I'm assuming management). She said that the new pool will be larger than the quiet pools but smaller than HRS. The pool building is quite large - she said that it will have a bar & serve drinks and have "To Go" food, like AP does. Construction of the last phase is ahead of schedule, but hurricane season has them nervous.
SSR side note 1: This manager was new to SSR (6-9 months), and she said that there are talks about more dining options - that's one of the biggest complaints in guest surveys. She said that the original plans were indeed for SSR guests to avail themselves of DTD dining, but that just wasn't happening, and SSR management folks are pressing for more options.
SSR side note 2: Work on Turf Club Bar and Grill continues - they are pretty much taking over the patio by the docks for this place. I talked to a guy who is going to be a server there when it opens (he's currently at Hollywood & Vine) and he's exited about the new opportunity.
3. BCV Carpet Stains. They are there, all right. While they are NOT something that would ruin my vacation - I might not have really noticed them had I not been looking - almost every door we walked by (dozens) in the villas had a half-circle of dark, blotchy stains right in front of the door. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect that people were wiping their feet there - maybe a welcome mat is needed. Once I noticed them, though, I couldn't help but keep on noticing them - looks like some odd design flaw or something, as that was the only areas where we saw stains.
4. DVC Condition. Other than those stains, both BCV and SSR looked great. Even when I went into "white glove mode", nothing looked ratty or worn; at SSR we were in the 4th building that opened (closest to DTD) and even after two years it looked great. In fact, SSR looked great - the landscaping is really growing in nicely, giving much more of a resort-y feel to the place.
5. Expedition Everest: A GREAT ATTRACTION! We rode it twice, and it certainly was a lot of fun; a great mix of roller coaster thrills and Disney magic. It is more in the BTMRR mode than SpaceMtn - a very smooth ride. This is already having an impact on AK - I bet that average-guest-time-in-park is growing longer.
6 & 7. Didn't get to see rinkwide's LaL tile, nor did I get any tater-tots - gives us something to do for next trip.
8. Frogs for greenban. Saw lots of frogs at AK, several AA frogs on SplashMtn and a frog plays a very important part in the HISTA preshow. Also saw many toads one night at SSR - not sure if that counts....
9. MrsTomorrow and I had a brief moment of silence for Rich at Fred's HM tombstone.
Well, that's all the hard facts for now - trip report in the next day or two!
Be well!
