I want to start off by saying that our cruise would not have been as fun if not for these boards, the knowledge gained thru them, the friends made thru them. It was so awesome to see all the lime green when we pulled up to embark. Chris, it was so cool to run into you and your family as we got our luggage out of the car! Emily is such a sweetheart! Such sparkly eyes and sweet smile..she's a doll! The Dis'er meet at the Scoops/Mickey Pool was great, but unfortunately, due to embarkation delays for people who arrived later at port (some had to wait 3 hours in line!), not everyone could make it. We made the Martini Party (thanks Ty and Jennifer!), missed the wine tasting, couldn't stay awake for the dancing and was bummed about the champagne party cancellation. It really is hard with everyone doing different things at different times and not knowing ahead of time what the Navigators will have scheduled. Still, it was nice to look across a room and see familiar faces, even just to wave and say hi. Joy and Ed, thank you so much for inviting Grace to Hannah's birthday party. She had a blast and everything was perfect! Lara and Blake, thank you so much for the cute door gifts! It really made our experience so much fun and great momentos! Thank you also for all your hard work on the Lime Green Navigator. Sue, it was great running into you and Kelly all over the place. Kelly is so sweet. Jodi, I'm so glad you recognized Grace at lunch that day and introduced yourself. Unfortunately, I never got your cabin number and never saw you again! Carrie, it was great meeting you and your family and seeing you around! Curt and Susie, nice to of met you two and thanks for such great pics! Ron, nice to of seen you around and still can't believe you are getting ready for another cruise so soon! If I'm forgetting anyone, I'm sorry...it was nice to meet all of you!
I just wish we could of spent more time with everyone.:goodvibes

Ok..anyone with questions please ask. I'll try to keep this as short as possible.
Things we liked:
Our Cabin- booked a Cat 9 GTY..got upgraded to a Cat 6. Don't know if I
could do without a verandah now. HIGHLY recommend it!
Plenty of Character Sightings
Pirate Party was a blast but wish it could've been earlier
The two shows we managed to make it to: Disney Dreams and the Farewell
show were great!
Oceaneer's Club- our daughter was hesitant at first, but we went to "just
go see" and she barely said goodbye, then wanted
to know when she could go back when we picked her up.
She went 2-4 hours a day about 5 days out of 7.
Service- aside from a very few insincere seeming crew members, the service
was great. They really seemed to want to make sure you enjoyed
yourself.
The Merchandise Shops- Great stuff!
---------------------------------------
OK, here we go....I'm just trying to be honest..
Things we didn't like:
The Food--I realize it's difficult to feed a couple thousand people, but we talked to several fellow cruisers who had much better food on other cruise lines. It's hard to describe, but it all tasted very processed and bland. It's like they cooked it and plated it up, but the chef was MIA. The sauces tasted like the kind that come from powdered packets and the desserts tasted like the kind that are frozen, then defrosted. The best thing we ate on board were the baked potatoes. When it comes to food, we are into quality over quantity, but the opposite seemed to be the case on this cruise.
The Mickey Pool- I gotta say, I had imagined my daughter spending much more time in this pool than she did. Thank God for the Oceaneer's Club! She did go in the first day at about 230pm and loved it. However, after that, she never asked to go and we certainly didn't suggest it after seeing how crowded (I understand one fellow Diser had an unfortunate incident with roughhousing unsupervised kids) and frankly, disgusting the water was. It is kept very warm and I don't know if they drain it every evening (it is not even 3 ft. deep), but they should. Whenever I walked by, the water you could see between the bodies was murky and there were always unidentifiable gelatinous "things" floating around.
The Coffee- all of the above would probably of been easier to take, had we at least been able to get a decent cup of coffee. Nescafe is all they had unless you wanted to go buy an espresso or such. For the price we paid for this cruise, we at least expected freshly brewed coffee.
-----------------------
The cruise seemed to have too much of a "scheduled" feel to it. Even if you want to just kick back in a deck chair, you still needed to have that Navigator handy to check the times for any event you might want to do. Upon entering an elevator about 4 days into the cruise we saw a family who were trying to set their schedule.." our Flounder reservation is at 10, the wine tasting is at 230pm, oh, but then Sally wants to see the characters in the lobby at 245pm, oh, but we have our spa reservations at 230p too...etc." The father just looked at us and said, " I can't wait to get back to the office...it's less stressful" and the wife said, " Yeah, and I'll be left to de-program the kids after all these time changes, late nights and sugar!".:rotfl2:
-------------------------------
Recommendations - Embark early!
Plan on spending lots of money at Shutters
Somehow, someway, get a verandah room
Have passports for everyone in your party
Have a credit card on file for room charges
Bring a sweatshirt and nice sweater or jacket

Any questions, please ask.
:)

Margaret-
It was so wonderful to meet you and your family. Emily had a great time with Grace and was so happy to see her right off the bat. I wish we Dis-ers had more time to spend together, but allas the Navigator scheduling got the best of us.
Best wishes!
Chris

Hi Margaret,
It was so nice meeting you onboard! If you are ever down in San Jose, let's meet for a latte or dinner. I still feel like I'm rocking a bit.

I'd love to get any photos of the kids you might have taken!

I returned Sat night from the cruise and I can't believe you didn't like the food. I thought it was fantastic. We cruised on the Magic in 2000 and thought there was a huge improvement with the food, especially the lunch buffets. We couldn't believe that Thursday night there was so much lobster left!!!

HI! Thanks for your post. Regarding embarkation...some has said it wasn't worth coming early to the port. Someone said they came at 8:30, I think and they were already group 2 and the ended up waiting for hours. The said it would be more worth coming at 10:30. What's your take on that?

What did you think about disembarkation. DH and I have passports, both DS - 3 and 7 have BCs. I heard the passport line was MUCH shorter than the BC and if even one person has a BC, then you have to go in the BC line, regardless if the parents have passports. Just wondering what you observed!

Thanks much!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

If you have time or don't mind paying the express fee, personally I think having a passport for all is worth it. First of all, since we are travelling outside the U.S., it just gave me a secure feeling with everything going on knowing we all had U.S. passports. Secondly, yes, since we all had them, we disembarked fairly fast. The passport line was much shorter than the B.C. line and yes if just one person has a B.C. you have to get in the B.C. line. Also, if you plan on going outside the U.S. again in the next few years, you'll already have them and one less thing to worry about.

As far as embarkation...we live in Southern California and we left our house at 10:20 am and got to port at 11:00 am. My DH dropped us and our luggage off, then went to park the car. We walked right in, got in a short line, checked in, then proceeded to wait. They had a band and everyone was very friendly and excited, so it was fine. My daughter got hungry and I had thought we would be on the ship by 12:00 or 12:30pm, so I hadn't brought any snacks, but they had vending machines and a snack bar outside. We we in group number 5 and ended up getting on the ship at 1:15p or so if I remember right. I don't think I'd want to get there as early as 8:30 am, but I understand that people who arrived just a little later than we did, waited a long time in the check in line, so 1030am sounds perfect. Hope this helps.

Hi Sue!

If I can't find your email, I'll PM you for it. That pic I took of Kelly,Emily and Grace at the curb on the way home is really cute! I'll send you that and a couple others. If you have any I'd love to see them.
I'll definitely email you if we ever get up that way, and same here. If you ever get down to DL or Newport Beach/Costa Mesa area, definitely email me and we can hook up!
I have a bit of the "rocks" myself!
:wave2: Margaret

Challada- I'll try to find your email too or PM you for it to send you pics also!

:sunny:

Thanks for all your info! Can you tell me what time the Pirate Party starts? Is it for children as well as adults?

According to the Navigator from the May 28th cruise, the Pirate Party is from 9:45Pm to 11:30pm. A big Thanks to Deb from allearsnet dot com for posting the Navigators.

My daughter is 5 and she managed somehow to stay up that night luckily. It is for adults and children. I would of hated her to miss that, but I saw some very tired kids there! It was so fun to dress up too! It is out on deck and ours was a warm, beautiful night. They start off by having dancing and then a cute show with pirates showing up, Captain Hook and Mickey too! It was very exciting. They decorated a little bit too and it was quite fun. They sold light-up or glow stuff and a few pirate things. They also had pirate stuff for sale in the shops, even full costumes. Everyone received a red "Pirates of the Carribean" bandana at dinner as well. We had brought our pirate stuff with us. There is a buffet as well at the end after a great fireworks show. We left right after the fireworks and were back in our cabin by 10:30p. Skipped the buffet! ;)

WCCruisers - thanks so much for sharing your experience. My DFamily is cruising on 7/17th and it is our first cruise. I love reading all the different threads and everyone's opinions on their West Coast cruise.:flower:

We are also in a Cat 6 room (upgraded by "family pixie dust")! Did you get your upgrade at port?

Funny what you said about things being very scheduled. Exactly what my DH is worried about. Good to know about the coffee...do you think they'd allow those small 1 cup coffeemakers on board? Not that we don't have enough to pack already. :earseek:

Did you do any of the Disney Excursions? Or other excursions?

And finally what great merchandise did they have?

Thanks again for starting this thread

PLEASE! I would like to know what was offered each day for the lunch buffets...i am trying to decide which day to do my Palo brunch but i don't want to miss an awesome lunch!

Also, the main problem i had with the food was the instant potatoes...so many things would have tasted a lot better with real or at least a mix of real and instant....everything else was really great but i understand what you mean about some desserts tasing "frozen"...i described them to others as "heavy", esp the chocolate desserts....i am used to softer cakes and such and these seemed to hard and thick...but still tasted good for the most part...my favorite was key lime pie...mmmmmm

Lisa-
We had a mix of BC and passports and actually timed the check out...ended up taking EXACTLY the same amount of time for our passports as our birth certificates to go thru customs....of course, we did not leave the boat super-early (though we had first breakfast seating and the first dining room to get called out...we were in the middle of eating when our sticker color got called!)...we left breakfast and took pics of the boat the last morning, so I would guess we were leaving the boat around 9am which was perfect for us. What took the longest at disembarking was waiting for our luggage "color" to get cleared. It still was a very simple disembarking IMHO for a "new" port.

Margaret-
Thanks ahead of time for any pics...PM me if you need my email addy again. If ever you decide to come to WA state, please let me know and we can get the girls back together.
Chris

The whole feeling scheduled thing is entirely up to you. My husband hates the idea of scheduling as well but didn't feel that way on the ship because we picked and chose things we wanted to do but didn't stress about not making it anywhere. The key for us was to look of the Navigator and pick a few things we wanted to do the night before and then if we made it great if not oh well.

Sorry, can't help you out on excursions. Stayed on ship for P.V. and Mazatlan (long story) and in Cabo, we just took the tender (nice ride) to the dock, walked around (fended off peddlers and pesky store owners) and just shopped around a bit for trinkets just to let our daughter experience a little of Mexico. The weather there and scenery were beautiful.
About the coffeemaker,,hey if you can fit it in, I would. At the Cove Cafe where you can buy coffee, they don't even sell just coffee. It's only espresso drinks starting at $2.50 or so plus gratuity.
The merchandise was great. All sorts of Princess stuff (dresses, tshirts, make your own crown, suitcases,etc.)..stationery (stickers, pencils, pens, markers, crayons, coloring books, autograph books)..All sorts and styles of tshirts, sweatshirts...pins,magnets,scrapbook supplies, toys, glass ware,etc.etc....pretty much whatever you wanted.
We got our upgrade before we left because we were a GTY (guarantee).
As far as being scheduled...yes, you can do as much or little as you want, but you still need to take into consideration...dinner seating times (and how much time you need to dress), Kids clubs schedules (there specific things my daughter wanted to make sure and not miss there), show times vs. other things you may want to do going on at the same time....etc. There just seemed to be alot going on either at the same time or within 10-15 minutes and you had to really study,,chose and plan or just skip it. We managed to make it to just 2 shows and wished we would've saw more. Someone has posted all the navigators..take a look and see what interests you.
Re-lunch buffets for tx aggie...Sunday is Italian Buffet day..Monday is Oriental Buffet..Tuesday is South of the Border...Wednesday is American Buffet (real baked potatoes!)...Thursday is Steak House...Friday is Seafood Buffet. Hope this helps. Luminere's is always a sit down, order off menu lunch with limited selections. Even here we were perplexed by the food. Ordered a vegetable quesadilla...came made with processed orange cheese product!! Another day ordered a turkey melt...same thing..made with that cheap processed orange cheese product!! Where's the swiss, or provolone or fontina??? What are they thinking? This is suppossed to be good food? I don't know any chef that would consider using anything but a quality real cheese. Like I said,,I really don't think they had a chef on board. Just kitchen workers throwing food together.

An awful thing happened to me. We got out to the car, and I realized we had left a bag back in there. So went back with my purse and stuff, to the exit, (was told you can't go back in once you come out), but I went in anyway, they told me I couldn't come in with anything. So I went back with only my KTTW card, and my Drivers License. I explained I left a bag, so they escorted me to a Disney CM at the port. She took me past the security people. They REALLY don't like you going back thru, but we went to the red room , and I couldn't find it, so we went thru every room looking for it. It was a new bag, and I usually put ribbons and stuff on it so I can find it easily in the airports, but It was so new, I didn't do it before the trip. So, after both the CM and myself looking several times at all the red bags and neither of us finding it, I said a little prayer, and asked her if we couldn't go back and look at them all one more time, and so she smiled and said, yes, we can go look for the 4th time, and guess what?? It was there. With my name on it and everything, where it was the other 3 times, I don't know, but I do know that the Lord had a hand in that one, because It was my biggest bag, and it didn't even have my regular ID on it, only the red Mickey tag from the ship, I dont' know what happened to my regular tag, but It was gone. So anyhow, as I walked out past all the security, I made sure I showed them all that I REALLY did, leave my bag in there. And thanks to the wonderful and patient CM, I came home with my new big, duffle bag. Yea, I was so happy, boy would I have been mad to have gotten home without it. So, when you leave, just make sure you get ALL of your bags.

Minniemom - we realized when we got home that we left a large red duffle bag full of all our shoes in the port. We just completely forgot it and didn't notice until we unpacked on Sunday. I put a call into Disney and hopefully they will help us as the bag does have our name on it.

Glad you got yours back

Sue-
Next time it is all disposable stuff for you!!! Between Mark's bag and now the shoe bag, you deserve extra hugs for all your patience! Take care
Chris
