Just back from our first trip to OKW from Apr 28 to May 8, and we had a great time. My parents also joined us by getting a studio on the annual pass rate. We stayed in building 54 (South Point overlooking the golf course) which was really nice. EXCEPT, more than one golfer tries to cut the corner on the dog leg and a few balls end up in the trees in front of the building. No real danger because it is treed in but there were a few balls. We even had one ball actually come over the building on to the parking lot side (that's a really bad slice).

My father thought seriously about joining DVC after this trip. They had a great time. He walked the path to DTD every other day, and he and my mother took the boat to DTD a couple of times and loved it. He spends a lot of his life travelling for business and his interest in DVC centered around the fact that Disney hotels don't look like every other hotel room he's ever been in. They loved OKW because it had pastel pinks, greens and blues and felt so much like a vacation spot.

From an overall perspective, I'd have to say that everything went like clockwork. We had a quick check in, got the area we requested (including being in the same building as my parents), and received a clean room, complete with a towel animal (I should have taken a picture). Mousekeeping was good for the time we were there. Our Owner's Locker was waiting at bell services when we arrived and we just loaded it in our vehicle and away we went. And also waiting that night on the message service, was a message from our guide welcoming us home to OKW.

Crowds at the parks were as expected with peak wait times on the "big" rides topping out at 50-60 minutes in the afternoons. Bus service from OKW was great. We never waited long for a bus to show up, and I find that OKW is in a good position to get to the parks quickly. We did drive to AK so I can't comment on whether it takes a long time to get there.

I will say this - it was hot. High 80's to 90 nearly every day with humidity. Coming from a climate that is in the 60's right now, that is hot. Clear sunny days every day - no rain.

We took our DS15 and DS17 for their first time to WDW on this trip and they had a blast. Instantly hooked on Disney at the start. Of course, this tipped the scales in favor of an add on. So off we went to meet with our guide near the end of the trip and we added on a 100 points at SSR. Got the $10 off plus $500 gift card and promptly booked a quick return trip in August in a studio in SSR (gotta update my sig now).

I may add some random thoughts later in the post, but for now that's a snapshot of our latest trip.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. We stayed at OKW last month and enjoyed the resort also. Here's looking forward to our next vacation. :drinking1

OKW is my favorite resort! Sounds like a great vacation. Like your Dad, one of the many things I appreciate about OKW is the ability to walk around. I love my morning walk! It's so much fun to plan a trip and then the minute you get home it starts all over again. We're goin in June for a family reunion and then again in August (mother/son x3), then we do strictly water parks and DQ. Did you have ADR's or did you guys just wing it?

Glad to hear you enjoyed OKW. We are staying there for two nights on our next trip-it will be our first time at OKW. I've heard nothing but great things about the resort, so we're very excited for the new experience.

We did two ADR's. We had breakfast at Crystal Palace an hour before the park opened on our first day at MK. So, our boys' first view of the castle was with a nearly empty park. Finished breakfast in time for rope drop and got a huge number of things done before noon. We also did the Princess Banquet at Akershus (Norway) at EPCOT on our last night. I finally got my picture taken with Cinderella. I have dozens of character photos and autographs but never had one with Cinderella. My wife laughed at me when we walked in because I got a little excited when I saw Cinderella working her way through the tables.

Halfway through dinner, Jasmine made it to our table and we got a picture of her with our two teenage boys. Then she went to the next table and gave the boy there a big kiss on the cheek (he was probably 7 or 8 years old). Our guys laughed and said, "I didn't know we could get a kiss." The family at the other table laughed and then later the boy asked if he could get a picture of us so he could show his friends "the boys that were jealous of his kiss from Jasmine."

The rest of the time we just winged it. Crowds at this time aren't too bad. Many table restaurants had room if we wanted it. Having the 2 BR, we bought food for breakfast. We also ate off site at places we've been to before. We had dinner at Giordano's once (great pizza) and went up to Bergamo's (near Universal) where the wait staff take turns signing throughout the evening.

We just got back from OKW this evening. We were suppose to come home sunday night but we were having such a great time we extended our trip.
Our check in didn't go so smoothly for my BIL. Our family was down in Disney for my nephews college graduation. He had booked a GV & we had a 2 Bdrm. We had requested to be near each other. BIL arrived earlier than us. When we were checking we saw my BIL. Apparently, when he went to his room & put the key in it worked. BUT, there was a family already in the room & they all had a stomache virus. He was back @ the check in when we arrived. The only thing they could do was put my family in a 2 brdrm for one night & on Friday we'd have to move so we'd be closer to BIL. We decided this was no good since we all had to be @ the Hard Rock @ Universal early the next morning. We were put into 5312 & BIL was in 4924. It all worked out in the end since we all met @ the bus stop when we had places to go. Our biggest surprise was later that day when we both recieved a call stating they were giving us a $160 credit for our inconvience. This was never a thought to think to ask or anything. So it was a very nice surprise for us. The graduation went great. Only down side was later that day DH gave me his Oakley sunglasses before he went on the Hulk ride & I lost them. Since we extended our stay we spent the last 2 nites @ Saratoga. Now DH says we need another vacation from the vacation. We're probally gonna go back @ the end of the month. Already contacted member services & only thing available is Saratoga. Just gotta check on airfare.

Glad you had a great trip...thanks for posting.

Congrats on your add on....man that place is addictive:goodvibes

Watch it in Aug....Talk about HOT, HOT, HOT:scared:

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

I was there the week before you and we were lucky enough to have a 1 bedroom in building 55  , so breakfast on the balcony every morning looking out over the water - just divine! It's our favorite building but it's years since we've been lucky enough to get it.

The previous week we did BWV with BW view then VB. Decided that, despite owning there, BWV is really not for us and don't think we'll bother again. OVIR at VB is another matter though - just love that too.

So, my perfect vacation is first week at VB and second week at OKW :cloud9: and I'll soon be booking that again for next April/May :thumbsup2

Nice to read you had a good time. We are off for our first stay at OKW in December.

Looking forward to our first OKW stay in September. :thumbsup2 It is our annual 10 day trip with our 35yo DS.

We have visited the main building and like the resort's look but have not stayed there until now.

We splurged a little bit because it was the boys' first trip (translation-borrowed points). We could do a trip with them in a 1BR especially at OKW. I was actually surprised at the size of the room. When we bought we had seen the rooms at SSR and the mockups of AKV, so 4 people in a 1BR at one of those resorts would be pushing it, but at OKW there would have been more than enough room for an airbed in addition to the sofa bed.
