Back From My Trip of a Million Dreams (tons of pics)

Yep, have gone many time during christmas week. Its my
absolute favorite time to visit.:santa: Our trips were always
aug and dec. So glad we have many wonderful memories
of our favorite place on earth. Hoping to take our grandaughter
sometime soon. Seeing it all through a childs eyes once again
will be magic!!

I'm so glad you added in the pics from the tour, they were fantastic. I'm a big plant person and was amazed to see the different topiaries as they were progressing in growth! I would love to do that tour someday. And most definitely would like to attend the Flower & Garden show. We have been there during the Food & Wine festival and had a great time with lower crowds.

And the character meal at 1900 Park Fare looks like a lot of fun. I have never seen the Mad Hatter or Alice during our visits to WDW.

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm truly enjoying your TR, more please!:)

Hey, if you ever want some tips for your next itinerary, feel free to let me know. I enjoy planning things. Going to see both shows before lunch, really depends on the schedules for the day, but Nemo is in AK and Beauty and the Beast is in the Studios. So, it may prove a bit difficult to manage both before lunch. If I knew the show times, it would be easier to say.
Sorry I didnt mean Nemo I meant Little Mermaid!!! I would need a helicopter to make two shows in different parks :rotfl:

That's wonderful! Seeing it through a child's eyes will definitely be something for you to look forward to. My DH and I always love watching the reactions of kids at WDW. I actually tear up sometimes, because that look of amazement only seems to happen at WDW. :goodvibes

I'm glad you liked the pics and are enjoying my TR. Don't worry! More is on its way. I've just been super busy. But, it's nice to know people are enjoying my ramblings and pics. :surfweb: So, stay tuned.

:lmao: That's what I figured you meant, but I wasn't sure. That makes more sense. It is possible to do them both, if you time it perfectly. The best way is to Fastpass Little Mermaid. Then, it's very possible, as long as the show times cooperate with your schedule. :thumbsup2

For breakfast, on this morning, we ate donuts and milk in our room. By seven, we were at the Animal Kingdom.
PC220375.jpg

First, we went on the Dinosaur Ride. It was fast and fun, but I kept shutting my eyes! I couldn’t help it. Those dinosaurs can be kind of scary. My DH said he loved it. So, I told him, “Well, I’ll go back on. Maybe I can keep my eyes open this time.” His reply? He didn’t want to go back on!!! Too funny.

Then, we went to see “It’s Tough to be a Bug.” Cute show, but man, it gives me the heebie-jeebies when it feels like animals are coming across you!

By ten after eight, we were out in front of the park, to be in place for the Wild by Design Tour. While we waited, there was a mobile, talking Christmas palm tree (I’m sorry I didn’t get a pic of it.) that came over to a group of us to talk. It was hilarious! It talked to us a lot about our anniversary and we were all cracking up, big time. It was great to see people try to figure out how it worked and how it actually could see us. I mean, come on, people! This is Disney and they could put cameras into anything.

On the tour, our guide was a lady named Angela, originally from Oklahoma. She now lives in Ft. Lauderdale, which she told us is a three hour drive from WDW. But, you apparently, just need to work one day a year to maintain your part-time working status and still get all the perks. She comes several times a year to give these tours, if I remember correctly. We thought she was excellent and very informative. As part of the tour, we also ate breakfast at Pizzafari, which were fruits, danishes and donuts.

This tour was amazing to learn about the Imagineers’ stories behind everything in the park, though there was way too much walking. I highly recommend it. You’ll notice things on your next trip to the AK, that you never even noticed before, and it really made us appreciate this park so much more. You also get an exclusive pin from this tour, as well. Very cool.

When the tour was done, we were ready for lunch, so we went over to Flame Tree BBQ. I ordered chicken, cole slaw, corn muffin, and frozen lemonade as my dessert. My DH got the ribs, slaw and key lime pie. We both really enjoyed the food, but my DH thought the pie was too hard. Next, we headed over to see Nemo, the Musical. It was beautiful, and we could see how much it was influenced by the Broadway version of the Lion King.

Then, we walked around some more. We ended up over by the gorillas. A female gorilla moved from her spot and began walking across the front of the glass area. All of a sudden, she bangs the glass with one of her fists, without stopping or moving her head, as though she was saying to us, “Yeah, I see you!” She never looked at us once. It was so funny and we all got a good laugh at of it.

We then went over to Camp Minnie-Mickey. We got pictures done with Donald, who like the time at Chef Mickey’s, loved my Three Caballeros shirt. We also got in line for Goofy and Mickey, but the line for Minnie was way too long and we were pictured out for the moment. I know! Can you believe it?

We left right before the parade began, and were stopped on our way out by some workers. We were asked to do a survey, which we gladly did, but we were disappointed that we weren’t being stopped by a Dream Team member.

Next, we decided to check out AKL, which we had never seen before. Oh, my goodness. . .B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! :thumbsup2 We walked around the lobby, outside to the fireside area, to a safari area, to the store, and on the way to Mara, we checked out the pool area. We had decided that we wanted to stay here for our next trip, so we wanted to get a feel for the place, and of course, that included the food. So, we ate lunch at Mara. My DH had spoken to some of the guests and we talked to various CMs, especially while at Mara, as part of our checking out the resort experience. We ordered flatbread pepperoni pizzas, soda and the famous zebra domes. Those zebra domes were AMAZING! We still talk about them. Everyone we spoke to seemed friendly, very friendly and happy. We totally fell in love with it. It was settled that we would make this our next resort, without a doubt. When my DH told me, while we ate, that he promised we’d stay there, I actually cried, I was so happy!

We then went back to our resort. First, we went to the store and my DH got a small Disney golf bag that has a clock on the front and the clubs are pens. He wanted it for his work desk. I got a travel mug to bring to work with me, and finally, I got a lanyard for all the pins I had bought during the course of this trip, not to mention the eight pins I already had at home.

When we went upstairs to our room, we immediately booked a trip for August at the AKL, though since then we have cancelled it, to rebook at a future time. Knowing we are coming back, in hopefully the near future, we began making plans. We decided that we definitely want to do the Segway Tour, and wondered whether or not we would want to go to the Pirate and Princesses Party, if it’s available when we return.

We also learned that day that after we planned to leave on our trip, the temps in Florida would be dropping considerably. We had really lucked out with the weather. :cool1:

I'm sorry that I don't have a bunch of pics of this day. We didn't spend much time using the camera on that day, and the pics at Camp Minnie-Mickey were put on Photopass. But, don't worry. . .more pics are coming with the upcoming installments. :goodvibes

On this day, we arrived at Epcot shortly after it opened.
PC240472.jpg

We got some great pictures of the characters.
PC310001.jpg

PC310002.jpg

PC310004.jpg

Right away, we went on Spaceship Earth. We couldn’t believe it. There was no wait! Then, we Fastpassed Soarin’ and headed over to Test Track. Afterwards, I bought another Disney cap and then, we went on Mission Space. We really did well with getting on as much as possible, before it got too busy.

Since we would be leaving soon, my DH suggested that we head over to Journey Into the Imagination and see if Figment would be making an appearance that day. Not only would he be making an appearance, he was just coming out!!! I was on cloud nine. I don’t know what it is, but he always reminds me of my childhood trips. I was like a five year old, running up to Mickey for the first time, only it was a great big purple dinosaur. My DH laughingly said to me, “That picture is the happiest I have seen you out of all our pictures this trip.”
PC290674.jpg

He was right. He said he would make me a copy of it to bring to work.

Next, we headed over to one of the Disney Vacation Club booths, to get some info, since we talk about becoming members so much. We made an appointment for a tour, for after lunch.

Lunch was at Teppan Edo. We love Hibachi Japanese food, but hadn’t been back here, since the changes. We were the first ones to arrive, so we saw how they start their day. The entire staff comes out, into the waiting area, and stand in a semi-circle. They then speak to all of us who were waiting for our tables, in English and Japanese, welcoming us to their restaurant. Then, they all bow. It was great and everyone clapped. That’s one thing we noticed right away. There is A LOT of bowing by all the staff. We found ourselves bowing our heads in response, most of the time, since we were always sitting. We also noticed that most of the cooks (at least as far as we could see) were females, including ours! Having eaten Hibachi more times than I can remember, both at home and in Epcot, we were surprised to see female cooks, let alone so many of them.

:thumbsup2 Our chef was amazing! :thumbsup2 She was so funny. She made a Mickey head with the onions. The typical volcano that is done with the onions, she had transformed into Mickey. It was so cool. She basically made Mickey’s snout as the volcano, with two more circular onion pieces as the ears. Then, she told us that we would soon see Main Street and when she made the volcano steam up, she began pushing it across the grill, saying, “Choo-choo!” :lmao: Too funny.

She hadn’t been in the U.S. that long and didn’t know much English or much about the culture here, yet. So, she was very eager to learn. Her goal, when she arrived at WDW, was to work in the Japan section. But, she explained that she had to work her way up to it, since her English had to improve. She was so happy to finally be where she wanted. She shared how she has a boyfriend in Sweden, how she’s 29 years old and he’s 28, and how she wants to marry him some day, but that Swedes aren’t big on marriage. She would ask us all questions to learn more about American culture, like she confirmed that Christmas is on the 25th, and she wanted to know how we all traditionally celebrate the holidays.

The food was the best we had ever had, anywhere! For appetizers, we got the shrimp cocktail and the tempura basket. For our main courses, I got the steak and chicken combination and my DH got the steak and shrimp combo. For dessert, we got the chocolate/ginger cake.

Afterwards, we headed over to our meeting spot for the DVC tour. Les, would be our van driver. He was great, and you could tell he loved his job. He was sharing a lot of Disney knowledge with us, as he drove us around. Ricardo became our DVC coordinator. Ultimately, we ended up being there much longer than the normal tour timeframe, and didn’t leave for 3 ½ to 4 hours later! But, we spent a lot of time talking about all the details.

The tour was at Saratoga Springs. We noticed how Ricardo greeted every guest with, “Welcome home!” We thought that was cute, but wondered if that would get on our nerves, after a while. As part of the tour, we saw the AKL Villas mock-up, including the studios, the one-bedroom and the two-bedroom. They actually recreated the entire experience, including recreating what the hallway would look like. Walking through it was neat.

So, what happened? We were accepted as DVC members at the AKL Villas!!!! We were so excited. We didn’t have all of our down payment that day, so we put some down, with the rest to be paid at the end of January. We had been talking a lot on this trip about how we would love to visit WDW annually, either the parks, the cruise ship, or both. Now, we could! Also, we could stay at our favorite resort, as our first choice. Right now, the AKL is using the top two levels of their lodge for DVC, while they continue building a whole new portion for just DVC members, to be done in 2009. It’s going to be amazing, with its own restaurant and not just a pool, but a whole children’s play area similar to what you see at water parks.

When it was over, Les was actually the one who came to bring us back to Epcot! Apparently, this is highly unusual, but we were glad, because he was so easy to talk to. We didn’t eat the all-you-can- eat free ice-cream you get at the end of the tour, in their ice-cream parlor, because we actually had to head to dinner soon. I told you we were there for a long time. However, we did meet a worker there who is actually from our town!:yay: She is in Florida for college, and since we live in a small town in NJ, she was amazed to meet us.

When we got back to Epcot, we headed over to Tutto Italia for dinner. We arrived earlier than our reservation, because we were hungry. Surprisingly, they took us right away. The place was beautiful and the food was good. They bring out bread and oil for dipping, at the start of the meal. I ordered the Pasta Fiagioli (I don’t remember if I’m spelling that right) for my appetizer, along with lasagna for my main entrée, and pastry puffs filled with gelato and topped with whipped cream. My DH ordered the tortellini in chicken broth for his appetizer, and the rest of his meal was the same as mine. We enjoyed everything, but thought the menu was much too small. We hope that once they have been running a while longer, they expand the menu.

After dinner, we walked around the countries some more and listened to Mo’rockin perform. They were good! Then, we headed back to our resort happy, knowing we had become DVC members.

ADDITION TO ABOVE: Since originally putting this installment together (I actually created these installments after our trip, and have been piecing them together with the pics, a bit at a time.), we decided to not accept our DVC membership. When you sign up, you have a certain amount of time to back away. We are making some plans in our life, and being DVC owners right now, doesn't work well with our plans. We're sure we will become DVC owners in the future, and we aren't sure if we are going back to WDW this summer or further down the road, but we know we're definitely going back! :goodvibes

UP NEXT: Our Fake MK New Year's Eve ;)

:cool1: :cool1: Sounds like a great AK day and Epcot day! Your meals sounded yummy!!! That's great about the future DVC plans...I heard it is worth it if you like to stay at the Deluxe resorts. I really liked your pic with Figment....so cute! I bet you were getting worn out by now with the early starts! I haven't heard about the Epcot tour you took so it was great to hear it is so good!

They were great days! Yes, we have found DVC is worth it if you want the higher end resorts, but we are also content with staying at places like POP. So, that was taken into consideration. Maybe down the road we can do DVC. We'll see.

I really wasn't worn out with the early starts, because we always went to sleep at decent hours and took breaks during the day. So, we were always awake and alert during those early starts and enjoyed the lack of people when we arrived anywhere. I highly recommend it. :thumbsup2

On this day, we slept in, before going to the MK. Before doing much, we took some pictures.

We loved this picture, because Dale was walking alone and it looked like he was just taking a stroll:
PC300703.jpg

Here we are with a character that we've never seen during the summertime, but have seen in the older Disney cartoons:
PC300704.jpg

Some of the holiday, festive looking parts of the park:
PC300706.jpg

PC300707.jpg

Then, as we got closer to Main Street, we saw the trolley coming with entertainers:
PC300708.jpg

PC300711.jpg

PC300712.jpg

Then, of course, the glorious castle:
PC300713.jpg

We ate fruit and juice for breakfast, inside the park. Later, we got some snacks, to tide us over till lunch. We had seen pretty much most of what we wanted to see during our previous times here, so we went to see the Country Bears Jamboree. Having seen it so many times on other trips, we hadn’t gone to see it yet, on this one.

We decided to try going to the Judge’s Tent for a picture with Mickey, since every other time we tried, it had been super crowded. Amazingly, we walked right in! Shocker!!! Afterwards, we rode on the Main Street train.

Over the course of our day, we rode a lot of rides, since this was our last day at the MK. We did Buzz I don’t know how many times, the Transit Authority ride, Carousel of Progress, It’s a Small World. . .You know, the usuals.

We finally got around to seeing the Holiday Wishes show at the castle, which culminates with the lighting up of the castle. Though we had seen the lit up castle on previous nights, it was breathtaking seeing it being lit up and the show was really good.
PC300736.jpg

PC300737.jpg

Having stayed all day at the park, with no breaks, we were exhausted. We had hoped to stick around for the New Year’s Eve fireworks, which they were doing that night, as well. But, we could barely keep our eyes open. So, we headed off for our resort, content to know that we would back for many years to come. For the first time, I wasn’t sad, as we left.

After all this time, our final day was here. It was bittersweet, but as I said earlier, we knew we’d be back soon.

We went to Epcot and of course, went straight for Soarin:
PC290676.jpg

We got a Fastpass to come back, after we rode it. Then, we ate cinnamon rolls at Seasons and man, they were delicious! Afterwards, we rode Test Track, Journey Into the Imagination and Soarin’ once again. Next, we headed over see the dolphins and fish. This time, we posed for pictures with the Nemo characters.
PC310010.jpg

PC310011.jpg

PC310009.jpg

We knew that Epcot would be crowded that day, and weren’t planning on staying there, so we left after that.

We went back to our resort and late lunch at the Pepper Market. This time, I got the Bourbon Chicken and Beef Terriyaki Combo with rice and egg roll and it was YUMMY! My DH got pepperoni pizza. Then, we went up to our room and took a nap, which was a great decision, because it rained a lot during our nap and we missed it. We were blissfully oblivious to it and unaffected. Then, we finished packed for our departure, the next day.

We had decided to go the Studios for New Year’s Eve, since it wasn’t supposed to be as crowded as the MK or Epcot. Shortly after we arrived at the park, it began to pour. We went into stores, to avoid as much of it as possible. It had also gotten a bit chilly. We had a dinner ressie for Primetime Café, and because of the rain, we headed there early. Trying to run between the raindrops, or was that a monsoon, we made it to the restaurant. We got in within minutes. A lot of people had not shown, because of the weather. If you have eaten there before, you know that they expect you to follow mother’s rules during meal time. So, the waitress told us we had to take our caps off. With my hair response to the heightened humidity, that was not happening. So, while my DH took his off, I looked defiantly at our waitress and said, “NO!” I wasn’t overly loud, but I was assertive. There was no way I was taking my cap off. I mean, imagine the little kids I might have scared. She saw I meant it and said, “Well, okay. It seems like cousin feels strongly about this, so we just won’t tell mother.” I got the chicken noodle soup for my appetizer. It seemed appropriate with the weather. For my meal, I ordered the fried chicken and for dessert, the lovely brownie sundae. My DH got mozzarella sticks for his appetizer, pot roast for his meal and the smores for dessert. We liked the food, but more than anything, we always love the atmosphere. It’s so cute. They made one guy, at another table, help with clean up and because he lied about something to the waiter, he was made to stand up against a wall with his nose pressed against the wall. Hysterical! You should have seen how many people went over by him to have their picture taken. He took it all in stride. I mean, when in Primetime. . .

When we left the restaurant, we noticed that the rain had stopped. We went over to the Sorcerer’s Hat periodically, to check out the band they had brought in for the evening. They were really good and did a lot of different types of music. While we were walking around, it became apparent that I was cold. So, my DH bought me a WDW denim and khaki jacket. It’s insulated, so I kept it open, but I was thrilled to have another Disney jacket (I have two others from previous trips.). We went to see the Little Mermaid Show and back to see the Muppets Show,
PC310030.jpg

the Great Movie Ride and Star Tours, one last time. We also saw the Osbourne Lights one more time, though we noticed that many lights were now out, leaving gaps in certain spots. I guess they figured that it was all coming down soon, so what was the point of fixing it. I had pics taken in front of the Narnia set. Since the scene is a winter one, I tried to play the part:
PC310032.jpg

Then, we went to One Man’s Dream, which we always find inspiring. I mean, Walt Disney was one of the greatest minds we have ever been blessed with. I cannot imagine what might have been, if he had given up all those times when he encountered problems. He always reminds me of how important it is to follow your dreams.

Then, we decided to go outside the park, by the Christmas tree and the lake, to see the fireworks from outside. We had learned that it was a great viewing spot and we wouldn’t have to fight people to get to the buses, afterwards. It did prove to be perfect, because we also caught glimpses of the fireworks from other locations, as well. They piped the sound from inside the park, out to where we were, so it was perfect. The fireworks were beautiful, and it was so cool to celebrate New Year’s at WDW.

We got back to our resort by 12:45, finished packing and were asleep by 1:30 a.m.

On our departure day, we had to be up by 4:30 in the morning. UGGHH!!! We got to the Magical Express area by 5:45 and left by 6:15. Once at the airport, we ate breakfast at the Burger King. We had such a hard time staying awake. For most of the flight, we slept. Could you blame us? So I remember very little. My DH was awake towards the end, and it freaked him out when he saw how close we had to fly over the water, before landing at the Philadelphia Airport. We arrived, exhausted.

The rest of the day was a blur. We went home, unpacked a little bit, knowing we would get to it all in time, and vegged out in the living room for the rest of the day. Within 24 hours, I would have a stomach virus and upper respiratory virus, keeping me out of work for a week. So, at least I had time to recover from the trip. I guess the switch from being in temps that were in the 80s for much of our trip, to arriving back to 17 degrees will do that to a person.

We had an amazing trip and we can’t wait to come back. Stay tuned for a bit more of our trip, that I wasn’t sure where to put.

So sad to see all the fun end:sad1:
I felt like I was on a roller coaster with

then cancel out!!:sad1: Its something
I have always regreted not doing..and
unfortunately its not an option now:sad1:

but at the same time sorry to see it end:sad1:
Ok, I'll get happy now!!:goodvibes :) :flower3:

As the title suggests, I noticed that there were parts to the trip that got left out, either because I forgot to include them or I wasn’t sure exactly where they fit into the trip. So, here's is a bit more.

Before each of these last three trips, I have spent time reading about Hidden Mickey’s, but whenever we arrive at WDW, I always forget all about it. But, never fear. My DH came through for me, as usual and found these beauties:

One day, while waiting for a bus, we got bored and decided to entertain ourselves. So, I came up with the following idea. :lmao:

Okay, pose like you have just arrived at WDW:

PC310012.jpg

Now, pose like you’re leaving tomorrow:

Finally, ready for this? What if we came back this year?

We tried on these hats at different points during the trip:

With all of the times we took pictures with characters, it got kind of hard to remember which ones were taken when, so here are some of those:

Even though this is a stationary character, I love posing here:
PC300735.jpg

Did I include these already?
PC230419.jpg

PC230418.jpg

Since we took pictures next to every Christmas tree we saw, why not take one next to Mickey's very own, standing in his own home?
PC230414.jpg

This was on the line getting onto the Transit Authority ride, and I just thought it was so funny:
PC300719.jpg

I may or may not have included this one, but I just love it:
PC300727.jpg

There’s a tradition that began when I was a little girl. On every trip, I have to have one of those Mickey Mouse Ice Creams. When, I returned as an adult, with my DH, I got him into the tradition.

Here are some of favorite topiaries at the MK:

This was in the lobby of our resort, and I thought it was breathtaking:

I loved this picture of Donald, in the store you go into after Mickey's Philharmagic:

So, here is the end of my TR of our amazing trip to WDW. I hope that my descriptions and our pictures did it justice. I look forward to talking with all of you some more, about it. I can't wait to plan the next trip!!! :cool1:
