My hubby and I stayed 5 nights at the GF with our points and it was wonderful! This was our first DVC stay and we thought we would spurge a bit. It was really a nice experience. We were able to get a room with a view of the MK and Cinderella's Castle and watched fireworks from our porch. We also enjoyed the electrical parade every night. The hotel is very special - and the service was excellent. They turn down your beds every night and leave chocolates, and ice in the ice buckets was was very convenient. I know these are amenities I will miss my next DVC stay at a DVC resort. Another plus about the resort is the monorail - which gets you to the MK in 5 minutes!
The parks were lively, and transporation always full - so it didn't appear that Disney was suffereing as reported right after 9-11.
I highly recommend a stay at the GF - at least once. I don't know if I ever would have gone for the $425 a night rate - but with using points - it was doable.
About security at the parks - it seems a little reassuring at first having all your bags searched and all - but then the more I thought about it - it wasn't that reassuring. I had a hard eyeglass case that was never searched and zipped pockets that were never opened. I think I would feel safer if metal detetors were installed.
