We got home late Saturday night from our first trip home to the bcv we had the time of our lives considering the crowds being easter and spring break. We were very disappointed with the housekeeping department and was wondering if anyone else had these experiences. When we were getting ready to leave Friday morning they came to the door at 8 to see if we were out and to see if we would be out before 11 and we told them we would be out probably close to 11. They then came back around 10 to see if we were gone and then proceeded to park their cleaning cart right in front of our room where we could not get out to take our laguage downstairs. I understand this is a busy time at the BCV but it was like they wanted us out As soon as possible so they could get it done for the next group. Other than that we had a marvelous time for our first time home. We can't wait for October.

They have to get the rooms done for the people checking in. They can not do all the rooms at 11 or after. They must start about 9 am or so. I leave at 4 am in the morning on departure day so this situation is not any problem for me. They must check to see if your room is ready to be cleaned. People will say near 11 and leave at 10 so how do they know without knocking on the door? Too many people like to make the departure day a day to hang around too long, not that you are one, but the people must leave so others can get in. Don't let it upset you, I for one think it is a very positive thing to check to see if the room is ready for cleaning.

We had pretty much the same thing happen to us last summer. They wanted to clean the room at 8:00 and we told them we would not be leaving until close to 11:00. They tried to come in the room two more times to clean. We usually leave earlier than that but I was sick and we had a late flight and I needed the rest.

We humans are funny people!

We all want to be able to check-in early (myself included) to our resort and we would like to be able to check-out as late as possible. If we all checked out at 11:00 then no one would be able to get their room until later on in the day.

I just think it is kinda funny.

Well, I am glad you had a great trip home for Easter!!! We are under 3 weeks until we go "home"!

I agree that we all want to have our cake and eat it too with regards to check-in and check-out.

When we stayed at Pop Century in March for a Saturday night, they requested that if you had Express Check Out that you dial a number on your phone as you were leaving your room for the last time. This way they knew which rooms were vacated. This would be nice to have at DVC, too.

We actually just used express check out at Old Key West on friday morning. There was an envelope hanging on our door check out morning and we just had to call a number then hang up and they knew our room was vacant. Made alot of sense doing it that way as we didnt have to stand on any lines to check out.

Glad you had a nice trip!

I think I would also be a little upset at feeling "rushed" to get out of a room I have paid for prior to official checkout time. I certainly would not mind them knocking once at a reasonable hour (after 8am) if they were unsure you were still there, but once they knew your plans I feel they were rude to hurry you. Then again, I also would not expect to check in to my room until after 4pm as stated. If I arrive earlier I would check once to see if my room was ready, but not put up a fuss if it was not. I think most people probably are out of their room fairly early on check-out day...but the quick checkout via phone would help housekeeping keep up and lessen the disturbances of later departures.

Housekeeping at DVC resorts seems to have a long history of trying to get into rooms as quickly as possible on busy check in days. I'm sure it is very difficult on those high check in days such as Sunday to clean every DVC room and get it ready for the next group.

Also, Friday is a high check out day due to the weekend points kicking in...this is totally my guess and not based on any insider information. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to BCV and had a great vacation. Thanks for sharing your impressions!

We like to not be rushed on our check-out day---the resorts aren't usually in a rush to get us in our rooms prior to 3 or 4 pm, so why should it be any different for us on checkout ? We have a long drive home (16 hours) and require a little extra time to sleep-in and rest up for the drive. I can honestly say neither BWV or OKW on our last couple of trips rushed to get us out.
Glad you had a great trip overall !

Do the DVC rooms have "privacy" door hangers (or key card slips...for lack of a better term) like standard hotels do? Sounds like they need them. If housekeeping wakes up my family at 8am...they are going to be in for something very unpleasant! :D

I'm with you! I would think they would have a "Please Do Not Disturb" or "Privacy" sign.

If not, I think I'll bring my own! :p
