My first time out there. I'll try to post a trip report when I have more time (back to work today )

(Here it is: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2470862)

Let me know if anyone has questions. I have 2 non-Disney questions myself.

1. Are you allowed to make a U-turn anywhere you want in California?
2. Are motorcycles allowed to ignore traffic lanes and ride in between other vehicles?

I saw enough instances of both to make me think it was perfectly legal.

Overall, had a great trip and a lot of fun. Looking forward to going back in a few years.

In Ca just about anything is "legal." The instances in your post go on all the time along with 85 in a 70, use of your cell while driving, etc. Best of luck.

To answer your questions...
1. As long as there a "No U-Turn" sign posted, you can.
2. I'm inclined to say yes. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong - maybe I'm just too used to seeing this.

I have a quick question for you: did you happen to notice whether they were doing the Princess Tiana's Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans anymore? My kid's love this movie and I would definately like to plan to see it if they're still doing it.

:rotfl: So very true. You don't have to stop at a stop sign either. Just keep rolling through ;)

I did see Tiana on the little outdoor stage, singing with a band playing behind her. Is that what you are referring to?

I knew that one. I don't know about the rest of the country but when someone does that in Maryland it's referred to as a "California rolling stop".

We call it a California stop here in California.

I think the law in CA is that motorcycles can ignore traffic lanes but can only go up to 15 mph faster than traffic.

We call it a $124.00/donation here in Wa state.

Yep as well as some hefty U Turn tickets should you get one, WA is notorious for our traffic laws and fines and it amazes me every time we are in CA!!! People really do drive like lunatics in CA ;):rotfl::lmao: so I go with the flow and do a little nutty driving myself:lmao:

I'm 99.9% sure in Az a motorcycle can NOT cruise between cars. Of course,I've seen guys doing wheelies down 22nd St at 45mph. :scared1:

I think there still is punishment for murder and rape, but not sure of anything else. But having gone to school in LA and only going once a year,
I do what the natives do.

I've heard that the donation has increased to $250. The Golden State the extra funds these days.

All they would have to do is put a huge number of CHIPS on the highways and the Golden State would be out of debt before they know it. I just checked here it is $164 now.

We have a traffic column in our local paper - the SJ Mercury News. According to the column, motorcycles are allowed to "split lanes", but must do so in a safe manner. If deemed unsafe, they can get a ticket. I think it has to do with the speed of traffic.

I currently live in the Bay Area, and every time we go do Southern California, I'm reminded of why we left So Cal. They are horrible drivers down there (though they are only marginally better up here.)

Funny enough, I grew up in Maryland. I remember calling those stops "California rolling stops" as well!

Can't say I've seen that on 22nd before, but did see it on Ina once. All I can say is STUPID. I grew up around bikers (my daddy is one :goodvibes) and none of them would dream of doing anything like that. Of course, it's unlikely they'd pass in between 2 cars, either. IMO that's just asking to get hit! I couldn't get over how often it happened in CA the first time I was there. Now I know to keep an extra eye out for them on I-5.

A favorite trick the motorcyclists do on the freeway is if there is a carpool lane, they kind of "make" their own lane between the carpool and fast lane. And they do go much faster than either lane is going. They make me nervous, I always feel like I am "this close" to hitting them. And I've been driving here for 30 years. :sad2:
