I have been meaning to get around to this, but I've been busy playing catch up with work this week!

We just finished DD's birthday trip to DL, and I have to say, I was less than impressed. We stayed at the DLH, standard view, Marina Tower, and did the room with the two queens and a daybed. The daybed was really just a futon that did not fold out, and it was not big enough or comfortable enough for anyone to sleep on, so we just used it to hold our suitcases and we all crammed into the beds together, which was interesting. :rotfl2:

The bathroom was filthy - the tile was cracked, the grout was dirty, and it looked dingy and gross. The ceiling in the shower was covered in mold, and the water in the shower and sinks was salty. We had to brush our teeth with bottled water. And the refrigerator smelled.

We did love the pool, and used it quite a bit. When we checked in (we arrived at 9:30am), we asked for a room key to use the pool, and we were told that they would not be allowed to have a key until 3pm when our room was ready. We were also told that we could not use the pool at either the GCH or PPH (even though when we made the reservations, they told us that we would be able to).

The rooms were much bigger than the ones at Candy Cane Inn, but they were definitely not as nice. We had a parking lot view, but we could see a bit of DL from our window if we craned our necks out. MIL was able to watch the fireworks from inside the room and said that she had a good view of them. We did have internet access, but the desk with the plug for the internet did not have a power outlet nearby, so we ended up not being able to use the internet because we could not plug in the laptop, but we were too busy to really need to use the internet. If you have a charged laptop battery, you should have no problems.

The walk to the monorail was quick from our room (Marina Tower), which was really nice, especially at night. Early entry was also a bonus - and we were able to buy blockout passes at the front desk so that we did not have to walk all the way to the ticket booth.

The parks were fairly crowded, but it wasn't that bad. It was really hot though, so we spent more time doing shows and swimming at the hotel than we did waiting on rides. We tried to stay seated and/or indoors as much as possible to beat the heat. On Saturday morning, we had our EE day, hit Fantasyland (the Nemo line was 2 hours long by 7:30!), and then had breakfast at Cafe Orleans (Creole eggs benedict = delicious!).

We had some fun character interaction, which made the whole trip. On our first day, DD saw Remy and Emile and nearly had a heart attack trying to jump off the Omnibus trying to get to them. :rotfl2: We managed to catch up to them, and Remy was so cute with her - she was wearing her Ratatouille shirt and carrying her Remy doll, so he made a huge fuss over her and gave her (and her doll) lots of hugs and kisses. On Saturday while we were eating breakfast, one of the Dreams CMs asked us if we had plans for later in the day (my heart stopped for a minute because I thought we were chosen to be the Grand Marshal!). He gave DD a pass for a one on one meeting with a princess at 3:30. She dressed up in her Jasmine outfit and then had her hair done at the Princess Fantasy Faire (it was so cute, but expensive!), and then she got to go right in to a private room where Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were waiting for her. It was so adorable! We spent about 10 minutes with them, and DD loved it.

After that, we had dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. The food was wonderful, but I don't think we'll be going back. We were seated in the far back corner, and only saw about 3 characters because they never made it back to our side. We were also really far away from all the action, so whenever there was singing and stuff, by the time we got there, we missed it. Our server was really frazzled, too. We got drink refills one time, and several times we had to get up and ask someone to come clear our plates because they never came around. They also forgot to bring DD's balloons and birthday place setting (that we had ordered ahead and paid for), and I finally had to go find our server and ask her to bring it before we left. I loved the food, but the experience was too rushed and hectic. I much prefer the atmosphere at Ariel's grotto, because the princesses really spend a lot of time with you and it is not so loud and crazy (too bad the food is not good there!).

The day that we left, we did brunch at Storyteller's, and it was fantastic. Excellent food, fun characters, and great service. All of the characters were so charming. We saw Koda, Kenai, Baloo, Dale, and Meeko. DD even loved the characters that she didn't "know" because they were so cute and fun. They brought DD a birthday cupcake, and Meeko helped sing happy birthday, and he tried to steal her cupcake. And Baloo took her Pez dispenser and tried to eat it. DD loved it and thought they were so funny. :rotfl2:

Overall, it was a good trip, though there were some big dissapointments. I definitely won't be doing DLH or Goofy's Kitchen again, but Storyteller's is now on the top of my must-do list.

Very useful info for us since we're trying to decide between Goofy's and Storytellers for DS Birthday breakfast. Yours is not the first review I've read where the staff did not bring the birthday goodies. Even though my three year old is SUPER high energy and I think he'd enjoy the chaos of Goofy's, I think he's be just as happy with the Brother Bear characters. He loves Chip and Dale so if it's guaranteed that they'll be there he'd probably be just as happy. We are currently booked at DLH but I am now having doubts. To spend that amount of money and be stuck with an old dirty room is just not cool. Thanks for your review!

That sucks! I would have been calling the front desk and complaining about the room. I wouldn't accept that condition for a hotel room in a Harbor hotel, let alone the DLH. Its just too darned expensive. I guess that ends the debate about doing DLH once, instead of GCH. If I can't swing GCH (or stomache the price) then we'll stay on Harbor.
We liked Goofy's when we were last there, but the chracter interaction was limited. Storytellers has ROCKED every time we've been there. And the food is always superb. I'm glad you enjoyed it too. Its on our list as BF for the 1st morning there. A great way to celebrate being back.
Hope you got tons of pics w/ the princesses. I can hear the stories being told to her own children already. :goodvibes

Thank you for sharing your experiences at DL.
The hotel room had salty water and the bathroom was dirty! I hope that my room has a clean bathroom.

So sad you had to have dissapointing experiences with DLH and Goofy's. I have never stayed at one of the Disney properties but have always wondered whether it would really be worth the extra expense. Hearing stories like this makes me think I would rather not take the risk.

As for Goofy's, I guess it is hit or miss. The first time we went was wonderful but after that it seems each trip lost a little magic. I think Anater's choice of word "chaos" describes exactly how our last trip there felt. Last year we skipped Goofy's altogether. We tried Storytellers and it was SOOOO much better. A lot less chaos, character interaction was great and the banana french toast was so yummy!

Even though some things where a disappointment, I will just bet that you DD had a fantastic birthday! My DD would be estatic if she had 2 princesses all to herself. That was a cool prize to win from the dream squad for a little girl. She will remember that a long time! princess:

Sorry to hear it wasn't all that you had hoped for! Makes me glad we didn't end up paying the extra $$$$ for DLH though! I would have been so upset if that happened to me! Your character meal reviews definitely have me leaning towards Storytellers too! Thanks for posting!!!

Thanks for the information. We've never done a character meal, but I was planning to book Goofy's Kitchen for our upcoming trip. Now I am re-thinking it and will reconsider the other character meal venues, especially Storyteller's. Thanks for sharing your experience -- but sorry to hear your trip had some disappointments.

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience at the DLH. We stayed there the week of 8-6 and we loved our room. We were in the Sierra Tower 8th floor and we had 2 Queens and a daybed. Our room was clean and big. 5 people did stay in the room so we utilized the daybed and it worked great. My DS4 slept in it one night.... I slept in it 2 nights and my DH slept in it the last night. We each fit fine and although it wasn't as comfortable as the bed... it was more comfortable then a pull out or roll aways that I have tried in the past (not at the DLH though).... but speaking of which... you can always request a rollaway for your room at the DLH.

We took our twin boys to Goofys for both Dinner and bfast and had a great time. The character interaction was great and it ended up saving us time in the park as we did not have to stand in line to meet Minnie or Goofy in Toon town. I would def do it again.

The only thing that was inconvenient was the walk from the main gate to the hotel. We spent the afternoons in CA and the walk back to the DLH seemed longer every night... (even walking through the GC).

I just wanted to share a diff experience.

Sorry you didn't like it. When we went we LOVED the DLH, and had a wonderfull stay. Goofy's is loud wont deny that, but it is a lot of fun, and a very large buffet offering at Breakfast. Dinner is really large also, but gotta say breakfast is my fav there.

We also just got back and have to agree with the condition of the Hotel. We stayed on the 4th floor of the Dreams - Sierra tower. Loved the size of the room and the little bed but the carpet and bedding was very worn and in need of replacement.

Also had brunch at Goofy's. Was not sure we wanted to try again after bad experience two years ago (sat in corner for DD birthday and had a hard time getting any charecters) This time charecter interaction was ok but the food and service was so so. Went to Storytellers that next day for lunch and loved it. The food was great the place was clean and the staff was so freindly.

DH feel in love with GCH now to tell him the price for Xmas trip:scared1:
