This was the day we left the boat. We were assigned the 6:45 am breakfast slot. Topsiders was not open so if you wanted to eat breakfast you would have to go to you assigned restaurant. My husband tried to order scattered hash browns and fried bacon again for breakfast, but Wemick was not able to oblige him. I am sure they were very busy getting ready for the new cruisers.
I was really worried about the disembarkation process as it has always been such a zoo on other ships that we have salied. Most of those ships call people by zone numbers or categories when it is time for them to disembark. Disney did not do this. People could leave anytime they wanted. So I was expecting masses of people trying to leave all at once.
We finished our breakfast, sid our goodbyes and walked off the ship at 8:00 a.m. We were through customs and calling for our shuttle to pick us up by 8:15 a.m. The shuttle took about 15 minutes to get there and we were back at Residence Inn by 8:45.
That is when we found out that I must have left the back car door ajar. Our battery was dead. I started to call
AAA and went to the lobby to get the correct address. When we were in there my husband asked the clerk if she knew anyone who would be willing to give us a jump. She said that they would do it for us!! Awesome!! They even had a preprinted release of liability form for us to sign. Apparently they have to jump someones car about once a week.
We drove to my husband's uncle's in Tavares FL and visited with them for a while. We left there around 12:00pm. The drive back was uneventful until we were just otside of Nashville. I could not believe how bad the roads were. I drive quite a bit and must admit that sometimes I enjoy driving through snow storms just because it is fun for me. But I had a hard time controlling my car even at 15 miles per hour. I was sure a semi was going to slam into the back of my car. At one point I could see two police cars in my rearview mirror. They were about a half mile behind me. I am not exagerating when I said it took them 15 minutes to catch up and pass me. I told my husband that if the roads were like this north of Nashville we would have to stop because there was no way we would make it down the hill (mountain) outside of Clarksville. So of course as soon as we got out of Nashville the roads were nice and clear. Thank goodness. We drove to Paducah KY and stopped around 11:30pm.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn express off of Exit #4. The desk clerk was very nice and helpful. The rooms were very clean and much bigger than what I expected. But remember we just spent seven nights in an inside cabin of a ship. The next morning we got up and had a nice hot breakfast and went home.
I must say that the
Disney cruise was very nice trip. I usually book vacations with the thought of relaxing only to find out that there is so much to do that I run around and wear myself out. This is the first time in a long long time that I can say that I actually relaxed on vacation. I was actually well rested and ready to come home. There are just a couple of more comments I want to add.
I think I saw a couple of posts that the children are well occupide and you hardly see them on the ship. I must say that for the most part the children are well behaved but they are definitely noticable. Before someone calls me a child hater I just want to let you know that I have 6 kids between the ages of 12 and 33. We brought our 12 year old daughter with us. I just wanted to throw it out there that yes where ever you go you will see children period. This is a Disney cruise.
I don't know how to say this in a politically correct manner so I will just say it. I am a cheap person. I am alway scouring the internet for deals. If I find a cheap vacation I jump on it. However we have always wanted to go on a Disney Cruise. When ever we saw the ships in a port that we were visiting we would always stop take pictures and say some day. I am very glad that we took this cruise. Nice ship, mostly nice staff, some good entertainment, Cast Away Cay was also nice. Would I do it again? Only if their prices became more in line witht the rest of the cruise industry. There are quite a few nice ships out there and I did not feel that I received a product that justified the extra cost. I could have taken a two week back to back cruise for the amount of money we spent on this cruise, and probably even had an oceanview room.
