Well, where do I start?First off I am NOT PUTTING DOWN this resort just giving my own experience and feelings. I know alot of you guys love AKL but I had a different experience, so please no hard feelings. When we checked in only reserving a standard room due to availabilty I wasnt expecting an upgrade but boy was I wrong. We were upgraded to a savanna view room on the 3rd floor,Kudu trail. This is were I was like wow this is going to be the most magical trip ever. Well we got our room around 3 and went in. First impression VERY DARK and it made it very hard for my cousin who has bad eyes to see things well, and the room was much smaller in comparison to other deluxe rooms. Ok, so I rush onto the balcony and theres a girafee eating from a tree right by my room. THis is awesome I thought. Throughout the trip we would see animals on and off but overall I wouldnt pay for that view since there were so many NICE viewing areas around the resort. Then We went in and checked the beds to maybe a take a little nap before dinner. Boy, this made me so upset. I pulled the covers open and there was HAIR ALL over the sheets and pillows. I wanted to die!! Eww I thought. I call housekeeping and there like we'll see what we can do we are very busy. I thought that was nerve since obviously the sheets or bed linen wasnt changed from the previous guest. Eventually it got clean. Also, we thought the beds were rather hard. Also, yesterday when we checked out they held our luggage and coats in bell services. When we got our stuff to get into the shuttle my cousin notices many cuts in her cut that were never there. THis made her so upset since she just got it as a gift and the cuts looked intentional like with a scissor or knife and even the manager agreed. The hotel is beautiful and unique in many ways but I doubt we will ever go back. We did however have a great trip.:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Wow

That is to bad. Sounds like somethings going on behind the scenes that just didn't fall into place.

What ever happened with the coat? I noticed you said something about the manager agreeing that it looked like it was cut.

Hope you had a good trip despite the problems at the hotel.

I can understand the whole hair in the bed thing. When we checked into the poly, we pulled back the sheets on our first night and found a good amount of dark hair in the bed. This started about 8pm, well after many calls to the front desk we finally got the sheets changed at 1am. At that point we were tired and cranky. The general manager paid us a visit the next day and took care of the cost of the room for that one night and also offered us dinner at one of the dinner shows. That put a damper on our first night there but didnt ruin our trip, things happen I guess, even disney cant be perfect. =)

You remark that the rooms at AKL are smaller than at other deluxe resorts. That is true at both WL and AKL; these resorts between "moderate" and "deluxe" in some ways. That is why AKL and WL have lower rates than the other deluxes! The rate for a typical room at AKL is less than a typical room at Boardwalk Inn or the Polynesian. AKL also has "deluxe savannah view" rooms on the fifth floor that are larger and roughly comparable in size to other Deluxe resorts, but of course they cost more.

so sorry you didnt have a good experience at the AKL!

the thing about the hair in the bed.. I completely understand, as I would be totally disgusted too if I saw that, but I think it might not necessarily mean that the sheets werent changed, it might be the housekeepers hair! sometimes people's hair falls out easily. I know it is still gross though!

hope next time you have a better time!!! :)

Laura :)

9 days til WDW!!! yipppeeeee!!! :) :) :)

I prefer the Disney atmosphere over Universal, but I have to agree about the beds at Disney hotels - they are firm (not sagging or anything which is the worst) but they aren't all that comfortable either.

Universal (Loews hotels) has the best beds hands down - oh so very comfy . And, the bed at the Swan was great too (the heavenly bed). I'm trying out a Disney hotel one more time, but if I have another round of "uncomfortable nights" , I think I'll go back to the Swan and the Loews hotels from now on. This comes from a "picky sleeper" so take it with a grain of salt.

Sorry you didn't care for AKL. We were there for 8 nights 10/26-11/3 and I think our room might have been near yours. We had 3304 which was an upgrade from standard view as well. We loved the hotel and would go back in a heartbeat, but we had a couple issues to deal with there too...namely they had my room charging messed up & we had a hair issue too, except different...there was a black curly hair on my DGD's pancakes from room service and we're all blonds. Now that's gross. Even though I had these problems, it wouldn't stop me from going back as any hotel is going to have something happen once in a while. I found the beds to be pretty comfortable, but I was also tired enough to sleep standing up by the time we got to the room.LOL

I can understand everyone here's support of Disney, after all, that's why we come to this site.......however, there is no excuse for unchanged sheets , at ANY hotel, between guests. Disney is getting a very nice price for what they offer, roomwise, compared to other deluxe hotels.
Sheets used to be changed EVERY night, when you stayed at a hotel. It's too bad we think we are getting a great service when we are happy to see clean sheets, once, when we stay at deluxe hotels. We work hard for our weekly paychecks , too.
