Just back from AKL. I must say that I was very impressed with the resort. After reading some negative comments about AKL I was a little nervous about staying there. (We were originally booked for the swan). We had a savannah view room on the Kudu trail. I did not find the rooms to be too dark nor too small. (We had a bunk bed room which the kids loved). We saw animals outside our room every day. The CM's were very friendly and helpful and the transportation was awesome. We never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes. I can hardly wait til our next Disney trip. We will definitely stay at AKL again. It's a beautiful resort.

Thanks for the report, glad you had a great time! Looking forward to my trip next month (standard view but hoping for an upgrade).

So glad to hear that you liked AKL. We are staying there for the first time this May. Thanks for posting!

We are staying there in May. I was wondering what the food was like at Mara. Is it a food court? I am going with my DS9 and my sister and her 3 fussy eater kids....And info would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!!! Mom & I will be going there in May!

Allison

Mara is the "counter service" type of restaurant. We found the food there to be good. We bought the refillable mugs and the kids used them for hot chocolate in the am and water and soda later on through the day. They had sandwiches, fries, fish and chips (very good by the way) and fresh fruits. We had made a grocery stop prior to arriving and we had a scheduled character meal or other meal at the parks so, we really only went to Mara for breakfast beverages and snacks. (we bought cereal boxes, cereal bars, fresh fruit and snacks at the grocery) We did eat at Boma and my kids ages 2 1/2 and 6 loved it. They are both willing to try new things but they ate primarily off of the kid buffet. Chicken fingers, fries, spaghetti and meatballs, sausage, mac and cheese. They had huge chocolate chip cookies for the kids at the dessert bar. Hope this helps.

Mara could probably be best described as a mini grocery type store. There is a refrigerated section with prepackaged foods and there is a "counter" type section where you walk up and place and order and then go to a cashier behind you and pay. There are chairs and tables set up throughout Mara and there is a soda and condiment station set up.

Mara also has a small patio for outside eating, which I enjoyed very much....but it only has a few tables. Boma is my current favorite restaurant at WDW....I'll be eating there again in four weeks :Pinkbounc :bounce: Zebra domes, here I come!

you should try Jiko as well. The Oak-grilled filet mignon w/mac cheese and red wine sauce was absolutely delicious!!!!

We had a 2nd floor room on Zebra Trail overlooking the Arusha Savanna room 2437. We were so close to everything...the pool, the restaurants, the arcade, the laundry room and short distance to the lobby / bus stop. AKL was beautiful. I hope to stay again in a couple years!

Back one day and missing Disney already,
Dawna

The biggest bonus at the Mara is...Zebra domes!! For 3.89 you get 3 zebra domes and 2 moacha crunches..that was breakfast for me,lol! I called it the Zebra dome diet as my lo carn DH snarled at me:p .
