My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful week at the Polynesian 7/14-7/21 staying GVC and just wanted to see if I could answer any questions for anyone. I hope to post a trip report in the next few days, but until then ask away ::MickeyMo

So glad to hear you had a wonderful time! It's a great resort, isn't it! I have one question. Is there still a walkway from the Polynesian to the TTC? And if there is, do they now have a check point of some kind to see if you are actually staying at that resort. Unfortunately I haven't been there since 2000. Finances are real low so we're forced to stay off property. But was hopping to be able to sit on the beach at the Poly to see fireworks and water parade (if that still is there!).

I was just at the Poly last summer and I don't see why you can't walk on the beach because nobody checks you. You can still get to the beach from the main lobby where so many people come and go because of Ohana and the shops, etc. Throughout my stay not once did anyone ask if I was a guest.

Mylove2002--there is still a walkway from the Poly to the TTC... when I was there in Feb, they were not checking for resort IDs, although this could have changed since then--but I don't see a reason that they would do this regardless.

Welcome back WIDisneyFan!

We wll be at the Polynesian next Saturday and are sooo excited. I will be anxiously awaiting you trip report!

In the meantime...how did you concierge arrival and check in go? Was the lounge very crowded? Do you remember what they served on different evenings? Oh heck, just tell me EVERYTHING!

My children and I stayed concierge at the Polynesian last year when they were in Tahiti, it was great, but there were a few times the locale had thrown them a little off their game. My DH wasn't able to join us at the Poly last year so this will be his first experience there. Of course (like everyone else) I want everything to go well.

Can't wait to hear the details of your trip.
Thanks,
Tammy

Well I have to admit when I got up this morning I was thinking the concierge lounge is a much better place for breakfast than my kitchen :earsboy:

To answer the questions so far....

Yes there is a walkway from the TTC and no one was there checking ID's. To be honest I am not sure most of the guests even realize that it is there. As for watching the fireworks and water parade from the beach - there was plenty of room so I don't think anyone would mind at all.

Now on to the lounge itself. I don't remember day by day what was there, but was always lots of fruit, cookies (very good cookies), cheese and crackers, and some hot items - we did not make the eveing food much but all of it was great.

Check in went very smooth - just remember to tell the first cast memeber you meet as your unloading the car you are staying concierge and they will call for someone to take you, and your luggage directly to the Hawaii building. We were taken to our room and told to go to the concierge desk to check in when we were ready.

I hope these help and let me know if there is anything else I can answer for you

:earsboy: :earsboy:

My fiance wants to eat at Ohana and I was wondering if you ate there? If you did what time would you recommend making a PS for? This is our first trip to WDW for both of us. Thanks!!!!

We have not eaten there yet (maybe on our next trip), but from everything I have heard and seen it looks wonderful. I am sure someone will jump in and give you a better answer :earsboy:

I don't know what kind of food you like but you'll love Ohana. Get a PS for the evening and if your lucky enough to get a table that has a view of the Magic Kingdom you can see the fireworks show from your table.
The food is absolutely delicious. I absolutely loved the tiger shrimp. They bring huge skewers of them out to you and you tell them how much you want. They also had turkey, pork and steak as well. They are all cooked over an open fire pit which you can see being cooked and it is all you can eat. I personally liked the food better at Ohana than I did at the Luau.
I know we are going there in a few weeks.
Enjoy!

Glad to hear you had a fabulous trip :) I'm headed to the Poly in October and was wondering how the bus service was.

Can you 'hear' the music to go with the fireworks from MK from the Poly? We are staying there for the first time on our upcoming trip and can't wait!

Also, I thought I saw on TV some children with shaved ice at the resort. Is there a place there to buy that flavored shaved ice stuff?

Thanks!
DJ

From inside of Ohana's yes, the music that goes along with the fireworks is piped in but you can barely hear with because of everything going on inside the restaurant but if you concentrate you can hear it.
Shaved ice? That I don't know about, maybe it's something new but don't take my word for it.

bunnyfoo> thanks for the warm wishes :earsboy: you will love the Polynesian

I did not see anyone with the shaved ice at the Polynesian so I am not sure on that one.

As for the music - it is piped in to some areas, we were staying concierge and it is played in the lounge during the fireworks. I am not sure about other places on the grounds.

On to the bus service, it was very good. We used the buses for trips to Animal Kingdom, MGM and Downtown Disney. The only time we waited for more than 10 minutes was one evening to go to downtown disney (then was about 20 minutes)

:earsboy:

I love hearing these stories... I cant wait till its my turn at the Poly!!

Too bad no shaved ice - dd watched a show on the Food Network or PBS on Hawaii and shaved ice (similiar, but completey different than snow cones!)

Hi,

We will be staying for part of our next year visit at The Polynesian. I'm looking for the best building to stay in and thought either the Hawaii or Samoan would be good. Is the extra $$$ for the Concierge service really worth it? A lounge is nice but for the price I could have two nice restaurant meals for 2 per day. What other services make it worthwhile?

Thanks!

montblanc , don't know what time of year you're going, but in value & regular seasons a Poly concierge room is less than $100 more than a Poly standard room. While a couple of nice meals for 2 at Disney might come close to that, it would probably be difficult to justify the difference in food alone, esp. for 2 people, but there are other perks. We love being able to grab a quick, light breakfast right in the lounge without having to be all ready to start our day. This is especially handy when we bring a young niece/nephew, because one of us can take the kid(s) down to the lounge while the other gets showered & dressed. We also save a lot on snacks at the parks & soft drinks/coffee/tea at the pool or in our room. Then there are the services of the planning office (same planners people on the Platinum plan get) who can take care of all your priority seatings, make suggestions for activities, answer questions, etc. They are especially good at getting difficult PS's, like CRT breakfast. The location of the Hawaii building is terrific - short walk to everywhere, and a wonderful view of the castle & MK either from the lounge or your room if you have lagoon view. Samoa is right next to Hawaii, though, and has a great location as well. I have to say we probably didn't take advantage of all concierge offers at first, but as we have become more familiar with what is available, what we need, etc., we use the concierge staff more & more. We have gotten to know many of these wonderful CMs over the years and they are part of what we look forward to when returning to WDW. Assess what that extra money could buy - some souvenirs, tickets to a show, a fine dining meal, an hour of parasailing, whatever, and decide what would bring you more pleasure during vacation. For us, the convenience and the feeling of being taken care of make our trip that much more relaxing and stress free, so we go concierge. You'll have a wonderful time either way, so enjoy!:wave2:

we will be staying at the polynesian on our next visit and are hoping to stay in the Hawaii we are thinking garden view room can you see the fireworks and water pagent from the lounge also would we better to have the concierge staff make our dinner plans for us we are hoping to dine at Ohana's and the California grill we havent stayed here sense they built he new pool

Not sure about where else but I know Ohana's sells the shaved ice. It comes in a sand pail w/ shovel ($5.00). Maybe the lounge next to Ohana's sells them too.

We have watched the fireworks from the beach and Ohana's. On the beach you could hear a trace of it every now and then. At Ohana's we heard it perfectly. Maybe me love Ohana's all the more.

Next to Ohana's is a lounge and sitting area where you wait til you are called for your reservation. You can go there to have a cool tropical drink and watch Wishes from there. They have big picture windows and we could see the castle changing colors prefectly from there.

That's what I saw on TV! The shaved ice in sand pails! Thanks!

Oh I am SOOO torn. We have 1 night at the Poly and I have the 8:00 Luau booked. Now I wonder if we should do the 5:15 one so we are done in time to see the fireworks (at 9:00 that night).

DH thought it would be more fun to go to the Luau at night because of the fire tricks and torches.

We have seen Wishes before, and will again in December. So I suppose we should stick with the Luau at 8:00.

OH THE DECISIONS!!!! :earseek:

Yes, you can see both from the lounge, and of course, the beach is right outside the door. The music is piped into the lounge and they dim the lights as well.

I always used to do my PS's, but I started using IPO a couple of years ago, and I think there is a definite difference. Disney might deny it, but I think you get better tables, quicker seating, and an extra measure of attention when the concierge CMs make your PS's. I know there is a notation next to your name on the host/hostess list that says (Resort Name)Concierge Guest. We have gotten prime tables everywhere, including California Grill, when IPO did our PS's. They're also very successful at getting the tough PS's like CRT breakfast, and you don't spend a lot of time calling, hoping for a cancellation.

Enjoy your trip!
