We're back from the Poly... we were there from 9/7 - 9/12. I think I may have a new favorite resort!

I hadn't requested a particular longhouse before we left, mainly because everyone seemed to love them all. I only requested 3rd floor and non-smoking.

We stayed in Samoa #3611, facing the quiet pool, all the way on the end of the building. When we looked out the left side of our balcony we could see the lagoon and the Wedding Pavilion. The room was fine, the standard Poly set up, but we did enjoy the large size of the room. The location was fabulous... close to everything, which was handy since we were traveling with two young boys.

For those of you wondering we DID have a refrigerator (and did not request one). It was very nice to have.

I loved the grounds of the poly and watching the fireworks and electric water pageant from the beach. It was very relaxing, especially since the place was almost empty the first couple of days there (I guess the hurricane scared away a lot of guests).

We had a lovely meal at Kona Cafe for dinner on our last night. The volcano dessert was awesome.

My only complaints... we were constantly dodging out of the way of the maintenance vehicles on the walking paths and the elevators were a little small (we could barely fit our two strollers in them). Also, the shower heads are very low (especially for a couple of people who are 6 feet tall)... we were doing the limbo to wash our hair.

These are all minor complaints in the grand scheme of things. I think we will be back!

Thanks for your post. We leave Sunday for our first stay at the Poly as well. I have requested the Tahiti Longhouse but I have also heard so many good things about all of the longhouses that I won't be disappointed if we don't get it.

Do you happen to remember which days and at what time they do the Tiki Torch Lighting Ceremony in the evenings? I have read that they pipe Hawiian music along the paths at the resort - is that true?

We didn't actually see the torch lighting ceremony (I think I've heard it's around 6:00 pm on Saturdays). The torches were lit every evening and they do pipe in hawaiian music around the grounds. The music isn't too loud, we only noticed it when we were passing the speakers.

In the evenings, they pipe in the music from the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks. This is best heard around the pool.

Welcome back and thanks for the report Karen.

Disneyvoice,

The Torch lighting ceremony is Tuesday- Saturday at 6:00 but it is only at the entrance of the GCH.

Aloha

Sounds like you had a great trip! I'll be heading down to the Poly in October ... I was just wondering if they had hairdryers in the room. I'm hoping not to bring mine with me (more room for souveniers:laughing: ).

bunnyfoo,

Yes, they do have hair dryers in the bathrooms. That should leave room for at least one souvenier!

I'm leaving for Poly LVC in a few days for my first stay.

Only thing I wanted and didn't get booked was the fireworks cruise.

Thanks for the information on the tiki torch lighting ceremony, tikiman!!

In my anticipation of finally being able to stay at the Poly I have been spending a ton of time looking at your website; I've really enjoyed it!!

No problem. Glad you enjoyed the web pages.

I am told by a CM at the Polynesian that the torch lighting ceremony is slightly different but last time I was there I just got the end of the show. Hopefully you will get to see it.

Aloha

Steve
