We have a 15 year with autism, he is high functioning. My dh would love to go to Pleasure Island one night and I would like to know a good service for someone special like him. (My sons not my dh.lol) We also have a 10+11 year old. We are staying at AKL and one night we have PS for the 2 of us at JIKO at our resorts do think it would be okay if they stay in the room by themselves the night we eat at the resurant in the resort that we are staying. I will have my cell phone with so if I'm needed they can call. The 3 boys get along very well and the 2 younger ones are very responsilbe. Please help me with both of these questions. Thank you ahead of time for your help!!

Fairy Godmothers Child Care Service does sitting for special needs kids and adults who need supervision as well as the usual sitting services. We used them for our kids, the woman they sent was terrific. Their number is (407) 969-9847 and toll free 877-611-4314

They will do 24 hour care, take kids to the parks for you, and they come ready to entertain and play. Very nice people. :)

As for having the kids stay in the room without your supervision, it sounds like you feel you can trust them enough to do this for a short while, they are old enough, and if you are at the resort and feel confident that they will behave themselves appropriately, then it is really your call. Does AKL have a kids' program at night? Some resorts have supervised activities, it might be worth checking into. When we were at Vero Beach, they were willing to take our autistic son in one of the kids' supervised programs that included a campfire and other activities, he had a blast. We had our 2-way radios, and they could reach us on a moment's notice if there were problems.

We haven't used childcare since we traveled with Grandma and Grandpa when our kids were little and now my oldest DD can easily care for her disabled sister (better than me, some days), so I can't give any first hand advice. I agree that it sounds like you would feel comfortable leaving your DSs together in the room while you eat at JIKO. Since you have the cell phone and are in the same resort, you would be able to get back quickly if needed.
Other people have posted good experiences with Fairy Godmothers with their special needs kids. Someone also posted about their good experince with http://www.all-about-kids.com/main.htm. They offer childcare services (including Special Needs) and they rent children's wheelchairs and other equipment.
Here's a link to Simba's playhouse, the children's club at AKL. It says they accept kids up thru age 12 and will accept older special needs kids on a case by csae basis.
