Good morning, Good morning, sunbeams will soon shine through,
Good morning, Good morning, to you and you and you and you!
(Or whatever time you are reading this :))
We are the Lovenerds. No, that’s not our real name, but that would be pretty cool if it was. My mom dubbed us that when we got engaged because she said we were nerdy lovebirds :)
You may remember us from our Epic Disneymoon waaaaaaay back in 2012- Link down in my siggie.

We have been to the World several times since then but haven’t written any complete Trip Reports. Yes, I know. Criminal. We’ve had an exciting almost-4 years. (Has it been 4 years already???) We went to Disney a number of times. We visited Hawaii with DH’s family and stayed at Aulani (EPIC!!!). I got a new job and we bought a house. The very BEST part? Well… you’ll see below! Tee-hee!

Anyway, without further ado, I present….US!

I’m Lauren. I’m 36 and I’m a high school French Teacher. This means I can only go to Disney during the very busiest times of the year. BOOO! (This also means I'm writing this TR during the last couple of weeks of school while more than half of my classes are missing due to testing and field trips and whatnot, and I'm bored out of my gourd.) My favorite character is Pooh and my favorite ride is Space Mountain.

My DH is Chris. He’s 43 and he’s a graphic designer/programmer. His favorite character is Goofy and his favorite ride is Tower of Terror.

Soooo to the most exciting part of our last few years...During an August trip in 2014, I started to suspect that I was pregnant. My intuition proved to be correct! Fast forward…..

THE most important person in this report, and our entire world, is Tristan. He’s now almost 14 months old but during this report he was only 4 months old. He was such a tiny little bean on his very first trip!!! (He’s got two more on the horizon and we are very excited that he will be a much more active participant. But we’ll get to that later). His favorite character is MICKEY. He LOOOOOVES Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and he can do a mean Hot Dog Dance. We are so excited for him to meet Mickey again when we go in July when he’ll know who he is! I suppose his favorite ride is TTA since he was awake for the entire thing last year, and he smiled like a fool! We’ll let you know which one he loves after our next trip :)

Here we are!!

This was Tristan's first birthday party, Easter weekend.

So, this whole thing is going to be a somewhat abbreviated and very late Trip Report for our August 2015 trip, and it will also be a PTR for our trip coming up in July 2016 and our OTHER trip coming up in December 2016! YEAH BABY!!!

Let’s get this show on the road!!

Stay tuned.....

In August 2015, we stayed 10 days at Animal Kingdom Lodge- Kidani Village Savannah View. When we go to Disney "just us" (or if my mom comes along too), we rent DVC points from David’s Vacation Club Rentals. We have always had a great experience and have rented from them several times. I had always wanted to stay at AKL and it was definitely a perfect time to do so since our pace this trip was much slower than previous trips, for obvious reasons. We did spend more time at the resort than normal, and this was fine because AKL is absolutely beautiful. We spent lots of time in the Kidani Village pool, walking the grounds, seeing the animals, and relaxing in the room. Traveling with a 4 month old was definitely a whole different experience. We did have a few difficult moments but we still managed to have a wonderful and relaxing trip. We took things much slower and stopped to smell the roses much more than usual.

***Concerning pictures- The pictures I took from my good camera are small. I accidentally bumped a setting and I was SO upset with myself. However, all my iPhone pictures are nice and big.

Day 1- August 7, 2015

2 days before the trip, Tristan had his 4-month well checkup. He did great as usual. He was in the 8th percentile for weight and the 2nd for height. This has continued every appointment he’s had, so we think he’s going to stay tiny. He’s going to have his 15-month checkup the day before our trip coming up in July, so apparently this is a theme!

The day we left, we were up by 5:30 and scrambled to get ready. We had fortunately already packed the large suitcases in the car the night before.

Good morning!!

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

I fed Tristan and popped him in his car seat, where he fell back to sleep quickly. (I wish he still did this!)

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We made our way to the airport, and parked our car at the Parking Spot. If you have never tried this place, seriously you are missing out. The prospect of covered parking while we are gone is so attractive- especially in August when there is a chance for falling tree branches and hail. You enter the parking area and they tell you which spot to go to, then they bring the shuttle to your car. The driver actually puts your suitcases into the shuttle for you. With a baby, this was very helpful.

We got a few cute photos on the bus. There were a few other people on, and an older couple who were heading to a wedding for the weekend in Colorado talked to us.

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We got off at the Southwest stop and were able to check our luggage right on the curb. SCORE! No wrestling 3 suitcases + diaper bag + stroller!

We went right to security. (Let me say at this point that we will be getting TSA Pre-Check for our future trips because going through security with a little one is a ginormous pain in the butt. Our flight back was case in point- what a nightmare. We’ll get to that later.)
I went through with Tristan and I had to get my hands checked out for explosives since I was carrying a bottle of breastmilk. We got through pretty painlessly, and boarded the airport tram. In the terminal, we stopped for breakfast at McDonald's then headed to our gate. Tristan had conked out again by this time. ( Looking back at all these pictures, I am in awe of how much he used to fall asleep during the day. Now he takes one nap, and maybe two on work/school days when we have to get up at 5:30 and he has to go to daycare. I miss those days but I love how much fun he is now and how he SLEEPS at night!!! )

Awake again!

After boarding

We had decided to sit in the back in case Tristan got fussy. We definitely weren't the only ones with this idea, as there were lots of families with little ones in the back. The sound from the engine seemed to create the perfect white noise and Tristan slept a good part of the way there, chomping on his binky. On arrival, we put on our Magic Bands and made our way to the Magical Express. We didn't have to wait too long, and the Cast Member that was telling people which bus to board made friends with Tristan. Once on board, we decided to sit in the back.

I'm ready to go to Disney, mom!!

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

On the ride to the airport, Tristan earned the "I pooped on the Magical Express" badge, and we had to do a quick diaper change. At this point, we had gotten pretty efficient at it. (Nowadays I can do it in my sleep.) Those portable changing mats are indispensable!

It started to storm, so the driver had to slow down quite a bit. The rain seemed to put my boys to sleep.. :inlove:

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We stopped to drop people off first at Art of Animation, then we were off to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Fortunately, Kidani Village was first.
We had gotten a text that our room was ready, so we headed straight there.

I unfortunately didn't take any photos of the room before we threw our stuff everywhere, but I did video it. The room was the largest studio villa room I think I've ever stayed in. It was absolutely beautiful.
Here is a lovely stock image of what our room looked like before we trashed it. The only difference was that ours faced the other direction- our bed was to the left as you walked in. I loved the decor and the stories behind some of the artistic elements- especially the tribal shields on the doors. One of the best parts of the room was that it was part of an adjoining suite...the space for the door to the room next door gave us the perfect space to park the stroller every night without having to collapse it. This meant that it had a chance to dry out on the many occasions it was wet from rain. The coffee table was cool because you could move the halves anywhere you needed- our coffee table at home is like this, only ours was 14 dollars from Ikea. Hey, you have to be realistic when you have a toddler. :hilarious:;)
kidani-animal-kingdom-lodge-hotel-disney-world-011.jpg

Our luggage arrived quickly, and Chris took the stroller down to get the order we had placed with garden grocer. We had ordered bananas, pop (we're from Pittsburgh, ok!!??), gatorade, and lots of snacks. We hung out in the room and had a nap. After we woke up refreshed, we headed to Animal Kingdom park. I took video of us going into Tristan's very first park, but he was asleep again.:cutie:
We had ADR's at Tusker House, as neither of us had ever eaten there. The food was great and the characters were so much fun!

With full bellies, we headed to check out the baby care center, since we had heard such wonderful things about them. The one at Animal Kingdom definitely has all the other ones beat. There are individual nursing rooms with a changing table in each. This coming year I'm sure we'll use those plus the high chairs that are available. These facilities are absolutely beautiful and so necessary for people vacationing with babies and toddlers.

After Tristan was changed and got his belly full, we went to use the one fastpass we made for the evening, Kilimanjaro Safaris.

I was pretty excited the male lion was out!

IMG_2798 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

After the Safari, we decided to head out and call it a night. We did stop in the shop on the way out of the park and I bought a Simba for Tristan to commemorate his first trip and the fact that we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge.
We gave the little guy a bath when we got back and tucked him in to bed with his new friend. We had a great first day!

Day 2- August 8 2015
The next morning, someone woke up in a chipper mood!
We had breakfast ADR's at Boma so we were anxious to get down there. We had to walk to Jambo House to get to Boma. There is a shuttle, but it's not really worth waiting for it, the walk is only about 10 minutes.

Delicious as usual! We headed back to the room and got our stuff ready for the day.

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We spent some time in the room watching the animals, then we went to Downtown Disney. We shopped at several stores, then had late lunch at Rainforest Cafe.

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Tristan had some daddy beard wrestling time.

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We headed back to the room and the giraffe made an appearance. We learned that the caretakers put food in these loops up in the trees a few times a day and we figured out what time to expect the giraffes then.

Later on, we decided to go to the pool.

Someone was pretty excited!

We decided to the Mara for a late snack plus some Mickey bars, then headed back to the room. Good night!

Looks like you guys had a great trip! Tusker House and Boma are some of my favorite places to eat!

Day 3- August 9, 2015

We decided to start out our day with a new experience for me, so we headed over to have breakfast at Coronado Springs Resort. Chris had been here years ago and wanted to show it to me, so we hopped on a bus to Animal Kingdom Park, then got another one to Coronado. I really liked this resort! I walked around and took some pictures, then I took a picture of the menu to text it to Chris, so he could stay with Tristan and not have to bring the stroller in line.

We had our breakfast, Mickey Waffles of course. What else is there??
We then went to walk the grounds and see the pool area, which I fell in love with.

We headed back to the room for a rest, and to give Tristan a nice quiet nap.

Then it was time to head to Magic Kingdom!!

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

IMG_2828 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We had lunch ADR's at the Plaza Restaurant. This was my first time eating here. It was so cute! I had a club sandwich.

Chris enjoyed his shake.

Someone was being charming.

We then checked out the Magic Kingdom Baby Care center so Tristan could have his lunch. I remember he was pretty fussy so we popped him back in the ergo carrier and headed to Fantasyland. We rode Small World, Peter Pan (which Tristan fell asleep on), Pooh, and Haunted Mansion. Haunted Mansion didn't faze him, but I am wondering how Tristan will do on that one this year at 15 months old. Hopefully he won't be scared of the stretching room part.
We then headed over to Tom Sawyer Island. I hadn't been over there since I was probably 9 years old. I loved all the caves.

IMG_2842 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

IMG_2845 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

On the raft ride back, it started to rain. We hid under the roof getting off for a little while, and then we just decided to brave it.

IMG_2846 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

I don't remember what else we decided to do, but I think we stopped at the hat store to get Tristan a pair of Mickey ears. Then I think we headed back and went to the pool again.

I'm enjoying your report (I don't usually read trip reports) since we are expecting our first 2 grandchildren (my oldest 2 DS's wives are pregnant and due the same week!) and wondering when to start planning for the next trip :) My kids were 2,4,6 and I was pregnant with #4 the first time we went. The next time was 4,6,8,10. Never went with babies and thinking around their first birthdays, if it can work out with everyone.

Day 4- August 10, 2015
We had Epcot on the agenda today because we were meeting my friend who lives in Tampa. Chris and Tristan woke up a little earlier and went to the Mara to get me breakfast while I showered. They came back and we had breakfast. Tristan was in a happy mood.

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

My friend texted us around 11 us to tell us she was on her way, so we got on the bus. I didn't get a whole lot of pictures this day because my friend and I were too busy catching up. We explored the Seas :

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We had lunch at Sunshine Seasons, rode Spaceship Earth, visited the Baby Care Center (of course!), and headed over to the World Showcase.
Tristan tried a hat but wouldn't sit still for a picture:

We decided to leave too so we could do some laundry...we were running out of undies! Tristan fell asleep on the job...

Wow, you will definitely have some great trips ahead! Taking a 4 month old was really different, and I'm sure it will be different again with a one year old when we go in July!

Day 5- August 11, 2015
Our Third Wedding Anniversary!
We went to Magic Kingdom early for our breakfast ADR's at.....

IMG_2850 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Crystal Palace was great as usual. Piglet came around first, and Tristan decided at that moment he liked bacon because he started chewing on Piglet's paw. Yum!

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

I got most of the other interactions on video, but when Eeyore came around Tristan started to get fussy, so Eeyore scooted away. Chris said Eeyore is chronically depressed and I just shooed him away. Oops! :p

After our yummy breakfast we headed into Adventureland, and were very sad that Pirates was down for refurbishment. So excited to ride it again this summer! We stood and watched a Jack Sparrow show and talked to a CM who was blowing bubbles.

We then headed over to Fantasyland for our Fastpasses for the Mine Train. I went first, then Chris went and I stayed with Tristan.

We went into Columbia Harbour House for a frozen lemonade, and got a cute pic-

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Then we went on Small World. My boys!

IMG_2863 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Then we decided to go back to the room because it was getting HOT. We got blocked on the way out because of the parade. I got some nice close up pictures though.

IMG_2869 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Later on we headed down to Boma, and Tristan gave us a wonderful anniversary gift and SLEPT through most of it! YAY! Then the waiter brought us this:

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Then we went for a lovely late-night swim! It was a great day!

Day 6- August 12, 2015

The next day, we had reservations at Chef Mickey's. We took a bus to the Magic Kingdom and the Monorail to the Contemporary.

IMG_2908 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We were seated quickly and they provided us with an infant seat for Tristan.

We took turns going up to the buffet.

It was a really nice breakfast. We have ADR's to go there again in July when we are staying at Bay Lake with Chris's family.

We hopped back on the Monorail and headed to the Grand Floridian to check out the new Villas.

I love this picture.

These paintings reminded me of Monet. I've lived in France and have been to Paris several times. My mom is an artist so the Musee D'Orsay is a bit of a pilgrimage for her. Taking her there is one of my best memories.

We went up the elevator and took some pictures facing down.

Anywho, I left off telling you about our day exploring some of the monorail resorts. Here's the new bungalows at the Polynesian taken from the Grand Floridian.

    IMG_2938 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

    Wedding pavilion!

    IMG_2939 by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Oh, to have been married there. Actually, our wedding was an awesome Western Pennsylvania wedding, complete with Polka, ethnic food, and the king of all cookie tables.

At that point, we decided to head back to the room. We headed to the pool again and relaxed.

    Day 7- August 13, 2015

We decided to go back to Animal Kingdom. I am pretty sure I did laundry again that morning, and we had breakfast at the Mara.
I don't really have many pictures of this day, but I do have video. We primarily wanted to go to Animal Kingdom to see The Festival of the Lion King. It rained, but fortunately we got to wait in line under shelter. Tristan snoozed on Chris.

    Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

They were having technical difficulties, so it felt like we had to wait a long time. We were finally let in, and the show was great as usual. Tristan even watched some of it!
After that, we headed to Hollywood studios to see the Frozen fireworks. We had seen them the previous year, so we wanted to see them again. We learned a bit of a trick- if you go stand near the Hollywood Brown Derby, you are away from most of the crowds and have a great venue to watch. We plan on using this trick to watch the Star Wars fireworks this summer.
Sorry for the total lack of pictures of this day!

Day 8- August 14, 2015

We decided to go back to Epcot. We spent most of the afternoon hanging out in the pool, then headed out. I wanted to go on Imagination, because Figment is my FAVORITE. I loved the original ride, and really wish the current one would get a facelift, but without compromising the nostalgia factor.

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

Untitled by lovenerds2012, on Flickr

We had ADR's at Biergarten, a place I had never been. It was absolutely POURING outside- thunder, lightning, the whole works- and it was almost time for our reservation, so we had to just suck it up. We put the stroller cover on the stroller to keep Tristan and our stuff dry, put on some ponchos and went out into the gale. You know those weather reports during hurricanes where it's raining sideways and the reporters practically have to hang onto telephone poles to avoid blowing away? Yeah. The poncho was pretty useless. Fortunately, I was wearing crocs (Yes, I'm one of THOSE people- but only at Disney) so it didn't matter that my feet were wet. We finally made it to the restaurant and waited in the waiting area with tons of other very wet people. Tristan had stayed pretty dry, but our stuff in the storage basket below was pretty wet. There was also a veritable lake in the storage basket that we had to drain out. We were seated about a half hour later, which did give us a chance to dry off. We were seated with about 5 other people.

I noticed that a young girl we were sitting with was wearing a Harry Potter t-shirt, so I commented to her that one of the band members looked just like Richard Griffiths, the actor who played Uncle Vernon in the films.
Tristan unfortunately started screaming his lungs out, and neither of us could calm him down. I was on the verge of tears at this point, but finally we got him to go to sleep and both of us were able to eat. I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere, and we have another ADR for Biergarten for when we go back in July with Chris's family. I'm hoping that Tristan will want to dance when all the other kids do, because he has just started to stomp and clap when he hears music. It's freaking adorable.

We made our way out after thoroughly stuffing ourselves (and after Chris finished drinking a beer bigger than his head). Illuminations had just finished up, so everyone was heading out of the park. The torches were all lit, and we could see the Frozen fireworks going on over at Hollywood studios, so we stopped to watch. It was a really beautiful moment. The music from an Epcot parade from forever ago from during the 90's was playing.

Day 9- August 15, 2015

This day was the most boring day I have ever had at Disney. I have never been there during a hurricane, but I imagine that this was about what it was like. The rain gods were apparently very angry with us because it absolutely POURED. ALL. DAY. Drizzle, raining cats and dogs, thunder, lightning, the whole works. It was so dark out that we had to keep our room lights on.

We were pretty bored, but we managed to find a moment where the sky wasn't absolutely dumping down and we trudged out to the Mara to get some food. We watched some movies on Netflix on our iPads and just kind of watched the rain for most of the day, because the resort cable went out.
Ugh.
