Next weekend we're going to WDW and while there, we will have our 13 month old's hair cut for the first time ever on Mainstreet. Do they do anything special for the first haircut? Can I keep a lock to take home for the scrapbook? And, any tips on "collecting" the first lock? His hair is straight and fine. Thanks!

You get a pair of Mickey ears with First Haircut on the back, a certificate, and hair wrapped in pixie dust. It's great. My little guy was 13 months too. I'll find some pictures to post.

They cover the kids in stickers to distract them, it works great. We got there about 10 and had to stand in line for about a 1/2 hour or so. I can't remember the cost but I know it's under $20.

Thanks for sharing the picture! Your little guy is so cute! I'm worried about ours sitting still. He doens't like ANYONE to mess with him for any reason. :)

The stylists at the barber shop are experts. I watched as they put mickey stickers on a baby's shorts and shoes and the baby was so busy looking at the stickers and trying to peel them off that the haircut was done! Lot's of fun. I would get there first thing as soon as the park opens, though, to have less of a wait.

has anyone ever had the daughter's first haircut there?? I was thinking of doing this for our dd who is 2...

Em will be turning 3 while we are there and I would love to have her first haircut there. Do you think that 3 is too old to do this? She has never had a haircut because she was a bit slow getting hair (Bald for her 1st b-day!!)

i've heard others say older kids are fine.

we are planning this for our DD4 and DS2.
my DH has hair past his bottom (he wears it in a low bun, so you can't tell how long it is). we've made the joke that when we get there he can take his hair down and ask for his "first haircut" as well.

girls or boys are fine. we did our DS. They also blow bubbles and things if they are not done and the stickers get old. They are experts :thumbsup2 !

My daughter had her first haircut there at the age of 2 1/1 and they were fantastic with her -- they really know what they are doing with little ones, and the memories will be priceless.

We had our daughter's hair cut at the Harmony Barber Shop when she was 16 months old. We went to the barber shop immediately following rope drop as we were told that the line can sometimes get rather long. They were wonderful with her. She is a very curious little person. I was concerned about whether or not she would sit still. The barber put stickers all over her and she even sprinkled pixie dust on my 16 month old, my three year old, and myself. They really do a wonderful job of distracting the children and making the experience enjoyable. They were so patient and kind. We were able to take as many pictures and as much video as we wanted. The barber wrapped a good amount of my daughter's hair in tissue paper and sealed it with a Mickey sticker. The Mickey ears (pink of course, with "first haircut" sewn into the back) and the certificate are wonderful keepsake items.

We had such a great experience. We're looking forward to having our third daughter's first haircut there when we return in March.

If it is a first haircut, they will give your baby a pair of mickey ears that say first haircut.

Our ds's hair was also put in tissue paper. You may want to bring your own little ziploc baggie to store some in. As a pp noted, get there early...a few minutes before opening, to avoid lines. Another good reason is, on busy days they can run out of ears from what I have heard, so you won't get the extra treat. The cuts were 14.00 when we went in Aug 07.

We took our very shy DD to get her first haircut in January. She was 14 months at the time. She does not normally do very good with strangers being in her bubble (closer than 5 feet) but they do a great job of keeping them busy with stickers and such that she didn't give them any problems with cutting her hair. They put the clippings in a tissue and wrapped it so they didn't fall out after putting some pixie dust on it. They don't put the pixie dust on the little ones so they don't eat it. They also understand crying mothers  and fathers taking hundreds of pictures during the haircut.

One of the clear scrapbook envelopes is great to keep the first lock of hair in too. It is safe to put in your scrapbook and you can still see the hair. The barbers are wonderful. Lots of bubbles, stickers etc. They wrap the hair in a package with pixie dust, include a first hair cut certificate and Mickey Ears saying first hair cut. Lots of patience for both kids and camera fanatic parents. Snacks are also allowed. Have fun.
