Our 1st baby (boy) is due on March 14th, so he will be here for Easter. We always do a big Easter thing with the family and all the kids.

I am excited I get to do an Easter basket.

Any basket ideas for a brand new baby? (I know it may sound silly to give a newborn an Easter basket, but to me it is memories and pictures). :goodvibes

Aww, I think it is sweet you are excited to prepare your son's first Easter Basket! I would get him some baby toys, maybe a plush Mickey Mouse doll... basically any small toys that you know he will enjoy, put in there. If you want, they have personalized Easter Baskets out there on the web too that are very cute.

Get a good sized personalized basket and take pictures of baby in it. I have the cutest pictures of my little one that way from her 1st Easter when she was not quite 2 weeks old & we use that basket every Easter now. Be warned that you need to order well in advance because etsy stores need time to order & personalize it & the pottery barn kids ones & personal creations ones often sell out.
As far as what I put in the basket I kept it pretty simple. A teether in the shape of a bunny (found at Walmart),a bib, a pacifier, a hat with bunny ears and face, a board book, a small stuffed animal that rattled, and a chocolate bunny with very colorful wrapping for mom & dad to eat. :) She was way too young for any type of baby food but a lot of the jars & pouches have a shelf life of several months-1 year so you could always save them for later.Baby mum mum cookies were a favorite 1st food (less choking hazard than puffs) & that's what I filled her 1st Christmas stocking with. You could also do the small wipes packages that come in cute designs and diaper bag stuff you'll have to buy anyways like small rash cream, stain remover tube, gas drops, etc.

Our baby was born the day before Easter, but I had a basket already made up. I used a sand pail and included a cute spring outfit, stuffed chick, rubber ducky, and a butterfly teether. :goodvibes

Personally - I would get some board books for the Easter Basket or some tub toys. Things that won't be needed right away - but will be useful before the next big "gift giving occasions" i.e. Christmas or 1st Birthday.

Gymboree makes some awesome bubbles that don't pop when they land on something and bubble blowers. When she gets older she will love watching you blow bubbles and babies surrounded by bubbles look great in photos. Bathtub books, board books with texture (the series That's Not My... is a great source for baby's first board book), soft squishy photo albums for babies are big hits with young babies once they are old enough to focus their eyes on images.

I found somewhere a baby cap that had bunny ears. It went into my newborn's first Easter basket and he looked aborable.

I would have a basket large enough for him to fit in for a picture. You could also have a large stuffed bunny to help prop him up and then take pictures with the bunny every year to show how much he has grown. I would line the basket with a cute blanket.
I would do bath supplies, rice cereal, etc.

Stuffed bunny, tethers, cute summer outfits, a few little toys, rubber duckies for bath time. And just to make it Easterish, some Easter candies that you and baby's dad can enjoy.

My sister made a big Easter Basket for DD when she was a baby with a stuffed bunny,teething rings, teething biscuits, toddler foods and some fresh fruit that she loved.

I would try to find a super soft, special stuff animal or blanket with a bunny theme and see if your little one will attach to it. Both my boys had special snuggle items and it was really helpful during stressful situations and for transitioning to bedtimes in strange places. The older one had a simple blanket that we used when he was a baby and the younger a build a bear we made with that purpose in mind. Beyond that, maybe a summer swim suit, baby sun glasses, an Easter bib, and a few board books.

Pacis if you use them, bibs, socks, onesies or a cute outfit, board books, teethers (we love Sophie the Giraffe!), rattles, hang toys for the car seat, a lovey.

* socks
* extra pacis
* paci holder (to clip onto clothing)
* board books (never too early -- started reading to mine at 4 mos! Brown Bear was the early fav for both)
* ditto on tub toys
* pool stuff! If you plan to take the baby to the pool or swimming at all, think swim suit, big floppy hat, floatie thing
* baby sunscreen (yeah, not until 6 mos but that comes sooner than you think)
* baby cereal (be sure to check the expiration dates on any food or meds before buying)
* hylands teething tablets (both my PhD biochem sister and hippie granola SIL swore by them so I figured if they agreed, had to be good; it was)
* gas drops
* aquaphor, triple paste (this will be your rash friend -- that stuff is king) and lotion
* baby bath gel
* clothes and shoes
* rattles, teething toys (agree re Sophie -- watch amazon as it can go on sale; picked it up for 13 on there for my SIL)
* blankies or lovies (heads up that once your child picks on he likes, for the love of pete, go buy 10 of them -- saves a lot of heartache and searching down the road)
* more diapers! :goodvibes

Great thread, thanks for bringing this up! I wasn't sure if I should do a basket for our baby (who will be 2 days shy of being 6 months) but there are some awesome ideas, so now I have to do it :)
