Baby sling too hot in May?

My baby will be 7 weeks old when we head to The World next month, and I'd been planning on carrying her around in a sling for some of the trip. Will it be too hot for that and should I stick to the stroller?

I wore my DD in a Maya Wrap for 9 days in September 2007 at WDW at the same age. I only felt she was too hot on one day. While I would not go without a stroller, I found it was much easier to wear her in the sling most of that trip, as it is difficult to maneuver the stroller in the shops and you cannot take it into most of the attractions or restaurants at all. I also think the sling provided very good protection from the sun. I personally think 7 weeks is too young for sunscreen.

Have a great trip and get lots of pics. I love my pics of DD at that age.

We carry our babes in slings, wraps, carriers of all sorts in the warmest of weather... keep your self hydrated, feed the baby often, and seek shade when possible. Relax and enjoy yourself! :) Strollers are great for bags, and the occasional nap :)

I like the answers you got here vs the answers from the CB.

And I agree with them, too. Get a nice light sling. Mesh...are they still selling/making Solarveil fabric? Those seemed terrific.

Although we haven't been to Orlando with DS (I've been there alone, along with other HOT places in the South, and hubby's lived in Singapore, so we're not unaware of the heat level), the summer after he arrived was sick-and-wrong hot, and I held or wore him *everywhere*. We didn't even own a stroller until he was 2. I find it wonderful, because baby is *right there*. You can feel if he suddenly gets way too hot, you know if he's sweating, you know if he suddenly gets pale (like with heatstroke). Baby is also right there for nursing purposes, which is how they, of course, hydrate. It's just very convenient.

DS sweat FAR worse in the carseat, b/c of the padding, than he ever sweat while being worn or carried.

So I'd get an Ergo with the infant insert, make sure we both had shirts that covered our torsos so there was no bare skin sweating on bare skin, pop on a sunhat and probably some nice light, loose, arm and leg covering clothing for baby, and go!

oh, I wouldn't go without the stroller, I was just talking about as a change of pace :)
I think it'll be great in the shops and inside places/rides etc...

I love the one I have (forgot the name of it) but I don't think it's totally breathable!!

Thanks for all the advice!

I just bought a solarveil sling (they don't make it anymore, apparently, but a lot of sling-makers bought up a lot of it before it went away), and plan to use it on our May trip. It's nice and breathable, and I actually like the way it feels in terms of fit/give/adjustment/etc. We've had a few days of upper 80s this weekend, and the only downside using it was having a hot little baby held against my body, but the sling didn't add to that at all.

I did both since the evenings were cooler. I used the stroller for holding my diaper bag.

We leave next week and have a 6-week old. I just bought a solarveil sling off of Etsy (can give you info if interested). I also plan to have his stroller.

I hope not since we're taking a Patapum carrier for my almost 3 year old! We did sling a lot in summer at that age. Sometimes I ended up with a sweaty spot across my back and shoulder but "Penny" was cozy and seemed fine. One hot day at a music festival she was so content that when a bee slipped into the sling and stung her chin, her only reaction was "GAH!" Then back to happiness with some swaying (and an ice pack!) She was about 6 weeks then.
