I need some ideas.

Several couples in our church are having their first child. We are having a baby shower for the first couple soon. Any good shower games? We are not a "typical" church. We won't be wearing flowered dresses or sipping tea (unless someone spiked it). I'm trying to think of some fun ones. Cheezy is ok. The last one we had, one of the games was an ice cream eating contest. Only the ice cream was chocolate & in a diaper...and you had to eat without your hands. I think KristaTX won... :rolleyes1

At a friend's baby shower recently, we played a couple of neat games.

The first one was guess the total price of everything on the "baby table." There were diapers, wipes, toys, baby powder, formula, etc. The person who guessed closest to the total amount won a prize, and the mom to be got to keep all the stuff on the table.

The other thing we did was we were given a line or two from a nursery rhyme, and we had to fill in the rest of the words. Winner got a prize (from Bath and Body Works, I think).

I hadn't heard of the "baby table" idea before. Thanks JustHolly :)

This was at a bridal shower but it would work for a baby shower too:

The 'game' starts out at the beginning where everyone is introducing themselves and telling everyone how they know the mom/bride. You go around the room, and then come to the last person, this person gets this horrified look on their face and says 'I am SOOOO sorry, I don't know any of you, I am at the wrong shower. I saw the sign and thought it was my friend's shower." This person then proceeds to spill her purse as she tries to run out of the room. The contents are picked up and the shower crasher leaves. Then later in the shower, the real game starts, name the 20 things (or however many) that fell out of her purse!

Some cousins did this at a shower and it was the BEST game I ever saw. It was hilarious to see the reaction of everyone too. Everyone was worried that she 'forgot' her present and the wanted to try to find her and give it back etc. The "crasher" was a friend of the hosts that no one knew, including the bride.

Do people that go to these showers actually like those games?? I can't stand when I am at one and someone says "oh time for a game"! I know at one I went to they had rolls of toilet paper and you had to rip off a peice that you thought was big enough to fit around her belly...the last shower I went to had a DJ and was pretty fun..more like just a big party with baby gifts added into it!

This isn't a game, but turned out to be a great baby shower activity. We bought white diaper cloths and fabric markers. Everyone got to decorate these for the mom-to-be and they turned out to be great burping cloths! :goodvibes Everyone had fun doing it and they made great memories of the day! :)

Thanks for the ideas. Keep'em coming.

I like the surprise guest idea (that is something they won't expect) but I'm afraid that our guests are so friendly, that they would bombard the guest with questions before we even got to the game. Maybe I can change it a little...hmmm

at my cousins shower there was an out of the ordinary game, a diaper game.
she had 10 different diapers & 10 different candy bars. she melted one candy bar & put each candy bar mess in one of the diapers. then all the guests had to guess which candy bar was in each diaper by smell. it was an unusual game but alot of the ladies thought it was a hoot. there was a prize at the end for the lady who guessed the most correct, 10 unopened unmelted candy bars.

I agree with you 100%. When ever they announce "everyone gather 'round its game time".....to me I hear "time for a cigarette" and head outside.

SIL did the baby shower so I had no control over that. My mother did my bridal shower, we had it on a Friday night, open bar and a DJ and no gift openings, my bridesmaids opened the gifts as they arrived and displayed them. I swear I heard a sigh of relieft when I told my guests we wouldn't be opening each and every gift, but if they wouldn't mind, please make time to go over to the display table for viewing.

OP, sorry for the hi-jack or mutinypirate:

I just read this one online....
each guest is given a clothepin to wear....if a guest hears another say the guest of honors name they may take the clothepin that the guest is wearing and add it to their own......(as the game goes on, you take all of the clothepins a guest has accumulated not just one) at the end of the game the one with the most clothepins on gets a prize........

very very funny!

A few I've always liked:

1.) Guess the baby food. You can do this two ways. You can either take the labels off the jars and have the guests try to figure out what it is by looking at the jar, or you can spoon it out into little dixie cups and make them try to figure out what it is from there. The second way is more fun, IMO.

2.) Baby shower bingo. This is a good one if it's a big shower with lots of presents. Make or buy blank bingo cards and have the guests fill in gifts they thing the mom will get. Have them exchange cards, and then mark of the gifts as they are opened. Award prizes for bingos. This helps keep people engaged and entertained as the gift opening drags on...

3.) Purse Scavenger Hunt 1: Make a list of a whole bunch of things (common and not so common) that can be found in a purse. Assign a point value to each one. Whoever has the most points at the end wins.

4.) Purse Scavenger Hunt 2: Make up a list of odd & crazy things that could be found in a purse. Read them out one at a time and give a little prize to the first person who can dig out the item. You'd be amazed at the things people have in their purses!

That's only because I LOVE ice cream . But thinking about it afterward kind of grossed me out. If that game is involved at any other of our showers, I will discreetly run and hide ::yes:: :teeth:. No more of that for me! I don't even want to watch :crazy2:.

ok...the melted candybars might just be worth it. I am a sick, sick person. I probably won't be asked to do games again...hmmm....

No telling KristaTX!

Guess the father...that would be too hard, too many choices...

Thanks for all the great ideas guys. (I think)
