I think if you like her given M-name better than "M.E." then I'd stick with calling her by her regular name. As someone else mentioned, I doubt there'd be too many times that you'll be with your cousin and I'm sure you can work it out even if you are together.

If you prefer "M.E." then maybe consider naming her Emmie, or a name where Emmie is a common nickname. I do not think "M.E." falls into the same realm as C.J., A.J., or M.J. where people will recognize it as initials. I think people will assume her name is Emmie (or Emily, or Emma, or Emaline, etc.)

I agree that it seems a bit weird and not like CJ or JJ. My cousin married a man whose name was E.K. They're divorced now, but to this day I have no idea what the EK stood for.

I have a friend who is Katherine Colleen and goes by K.C. She uses the initials but most everyone thinks her real name is Casey. Seems weird to me that technically everyone is calling her by the wrong name.

I just saw this thread for the first time and voted to call her by her real name. Later down the road, once she can talk, maybe give her a nickname.

That's the opposite of me when I say 'Cijay' and they want to know what CJ stands for.

Break the tradition and name her something else! My husband's family has a lot of variations of the same name. It's very confusing.

If you are going to call her M.E, you will have to give it a spelling....Emmie, Emmy...and that will become her name. I think just using the initials will be too confusing.
We have a friend whose name is Thomas Edward Drummond. Everyone calls him Ted. His initials. I think it's cool!

M.E. = Medical Examiner, which is the person who looks at dead bodies after a crime has occured. Maybe not the best nickname, unless you have a little doctor-wannabee? :)

We've talked about Emmie, Emmy and Emme. She's only 4 days old so we have plenty of time to decide! I think I like Emmie because it looks more like a nick name, which it is.

Today on Facebook someone posted a link to an article with the top predicted names for 2016. Emi was #1. Ha ha! We're not using that spelling, but we found it funny because we're not popular name people.
