We are traveling with some good friends and their 15 month old wee little girl and were wondering if anyone had tried to use a baby Monitor on the ship and how well it worked.

Don't get me wrong, we don't want to use it to run around the ship or anything. We were just thinking that if one night my friend and I are out at an event, and our husbands are with the kids while they are sleeping, one of them could use the monitor to go next door (Our rooms are right next to each other) to play cards or something. They certianly wouldn't go any further than that!

Yeah, the intellengent thing would have been to get ajoining cabins, but we are new to this whole 'traveling with babies' thing. If it won't work, we'll just put one of them to sleep in the other room and move her when we are ready to go to bed! :)

They would certainly work from one cabin to the next. The privacy concern is that most baby monitors use the same frequency and that if others brought their baby monitors, they could hear what's going on in your stateroom. Or you could hear what's going on in their stateroom.

Dave, given all the metal in and around the cabins, I would not be so quick to assume a baby monitor will work. There signal is very weak and the metal could cause a lot of interference.

That said, it certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a try as it might work-it going to depend on the distance and the quality of the monitor.

Has anybody tried to do this?

We used one between connecting rooms on deck 7 during our cruise. My parents baby-sat for dd a couple of times and stayed in their room while dd slept in our room - sometimes the door was open and sometimes it was not. There was never any problems using the monitor - no noticeable interference etc.

So, I would take it and hope for the best!!

They work fine.
The only thing other radios would pick up is the baby sleeping.
We were on Deck 5 in side by side cabins.
