What baby monitor do you recommend for the ship?

Are you staying in The Walt or Roy suite? If not you don’t need one.

We used one back in the day, when we went to dinner while my parents were staying in the connecting stateroom. Outside of that kind of setup, or the Royals, you would not need one. There’s only a curtain separating the bed from the space with the crib. We used a previous generation AngelCare without the breathing monitor.

Our friends uses one on a cruise during nap time, so they could be outside on the verandah while their 2 year old slept in either a crib or pack and play. Seemed reasonable to us...

We didn't even bother. The staterooms are so small you won't need one. And, we had no intention of ever leaving our son alone in the room while we went elsewhere; if that's your thought, you may want to re-think your plan.

The main problem is the air current created if you leave your door opened and someone opens the stateroom door. That door is quite heavy and leaving the patio door open might prevent it from opening or make it slam very hard.

We sat on the verandah with the door closed during nap time and didn’t really have a problem or need a monitor.

Everyone's different, with regard to the verandah. We were on our verandah when my 13 year old forgot his key. He was banging on the hall door as loud as he could, but we had the verandah doors closed. Luckily, our neighbour came by and stepped out to their balcony to let us know our son was out there. We just didn't hear it.

So unless you have a screamer, it's possible you won't hear a baby whimpering or moving. Don't forget there are noises on the verandah, too, particularly if you happen to be in port. So, in my opinion, a baby monitor could be useful. I wouldn't go farther than the verandah or a connecting room, though, with a little one asleep in the room.

Unless.... your teens have their own room not connected and you're hoping to hide the baby monitor in the room to check up on them?

I talked to a couple once that used one when their concierge room was right across the hall from the concierge lounge and they wanted to get the kids to bed early and then sit in the lounge and relax and have a drink. Seemed like it worked ok.

We've brought our monitor on past (non DCL) cruises. We just bring the one we have at home, an $80 Amazon special, since it plays music and DS is used to having it when he falls asleep. We typically sail with our in-laws in a connecting room so we either all go to the other room while DS falls asleep or whoever is staying back with him hangs out in the other room with the monitor on. Its been helpful for us.

Unless.... your teens have their own room not connected and you're hoping to hide the baby monitor in the room to check up on them?

this made me laugh.... and consider digging out our old baby monitor. Our teens will be staying across the hall from us for the first time on our next cruise. I hadn’t even thought of this, but now the wheels are spinning.
