Baby Girl Name Thread

Some very popular names here are Emma, Emily, Abby, Jenna, Sofia, Ava, Olivia, Isabella, Caitlyn, Julia, and Mia.

When you choose your child's name I think the only thing that matters is that you absolutely love it. Love the sound of it. Love the way it looks when you write it down....

My name is Jill, and I always hated that I had such a short name. I always wished I was Jillian instead. When I picked names for my boys I wanted to be sure they could be shortened, if THEY chose to do that. My boys are Jacob and Zachary. (We were ahead of the popularity of those names, so Jacob never had another Jacob in his class, and Zachary didn't have another Zac until high school).

When Zachary chose to be Zac he got to pick his own spelling: Zack, Zac, Zak Zach. He was in 6th grade and that was a very cool thing for him. It was like choosing your own name.

Jacob doesn't care who calls him Jacob or Jake, but most of his friends called him Jacob.

Personally I would not want choose a name that was a number one name the year before my child was born, but that is just ME. It makes no difference if that is the name YOU love!

Perhaps you could make sure that she has a long, versatile, middle name such as Elizabeth, that could be changed any way she wants.

Oh, I love the name Adelle and Eleanor. If we had had another girl, she would have been Margaret Mary - shortened to Mimi. I also love the name Molly.

We don't have many Emma's here, but Amelia, Vivian, Lillian are very popular. Of course, because Josephine is a family name - it is incorporated in my name, my daughter's name, my mom's name, my grandma's name ;) I was Josie to many of my friend's in school.

Names are so much fun! I would go with whatever you love.

One alternative to Lilian or Lily is Lila

I have always loved that name, but it is sort of old-fashioned, don't hear it much anymore

Gemma, I love Gemma!

OP, don't you just hate it when names you love get too popular?

I have an Avery and Gianna. Avery is getting more popular around here but it's still not overly used. She's the only one in my county. But Gianna is the only one in our region I bet. Half the people don't even know how to say it. Is it really that hard? :confused3

I am all about more unique or original names. I would stay away from Emma and Abby as a first name, but if you love one, use it as a middle. I love Emma. :thumbsup2

Love Vivian but prefer the Franch spelling Vivienne and Lillian.
There are a zillion Emmas and Abbys.

I have an Emma. When we picked the name (before she was even thought of!) and throughout my pregnancy, all I heard was "that's an old lady's name". I love old names though. Emma was not popular at all. HOWEVER, when she went to preschool, she was one of 3 Emmas in her class. In elementary, there were a couple of other Emmas in the school, but it seems to be fading some. She is an Emma, it fits her perfectly though.

I'm also biased to the name Abby. We lost our sweet Abby Gail last year after 15 years with the best dog ever. We named her Abby because I LOVED the name, and it was well before we had kids. Now we have Sophie Gail - again, cuz we love the name Sophie.

I love your husband's picks - Vivian is such a pretty name! Good luck - name her what you love, you're the one who will be saying her name for the rest of your life. If you love it, I wouldn't worry about whether it was popular or not.

I think all the name mentioned on here are just beautiful. I have a Jordan Emily, when she was first born and people heard the name they though she was a boy. Some still say HIM/HE when I say her name to them. I don't see very many girls named Jordan but still many boys with that name.

Here's another of my favorites:

Charlotte (Char for short)
Olivia
Nadra

Also I think once you meet her you'll know exactly what name belongs to her. Congratulations !!!

My daughters are Stephanie Jennifer and Julianne Elyse. :)

My younger daughter has a friend named Brette Elizabeth and I think that is a beautiful name too.

I teach and in our school there are lots of Emma's and Abbie/Abby's, but there are also multiples of just about every other name, especially Isabella, Sophia and Ava. Name your daughter what you truly love and you won't be sorry.

I like Emma. I have an Ashton and Avery. If I ever have another girl I would name her Addison, "Addy" for short.

I like Emma.:thumbsup2 My daughter is Brenna we don't hear it often but everyone calls her Brianna and it annoys her. My son is Holden and it's not to common here either.

Abbie, Emma, Lily, Ava and Isabelle are very popular here!!!

DH insisted we name DD 4 Lauryn, so far I have lucked out with her being the only one, but that is super popular too. Then DD 1, we named Natalee, I have never known another Natalee. Do you know how often I hear people calling their daughters Natalee now...............So, if you always wanted an Emma, go with Emma.

But Gianna is the only one in our region I bet. Half the people don't even know how to say it. Is it really that hard? :confused3

It has to do with Americans wanting to pronounce every syllable they see. Many probably don't understand that the Italian Gi is equivalent to a J. So it's "John-ah" but I'm guessing you get a lot of "Gee-Ahna" or even "Gee-Anna."

As to the original poster...a name that is classic, easy to spell, and easy to pronounce never goes out of style and is never too popular.

I think all the name mentioned on here are just beautiful. I have a Jordan Emily, when she was first born and people heard the name they though she was a boy. Some still say HIM/HE when I say her name to them. I don't see very many girls named Jordan but still many boys with that name.

Our kids' homecoming dance is tonight and DD has been telling me that they were getting a ride from Jordan all week. I kept trying to place who the heck Jordan was (I knew it was a band kid). Well, Jordan is a GIRL and I was trying to figure out which BOY was driving :lmao::lmao::lmao:.

I like Emma.:thumbsup2 My daughter is Brenna we don't hear it often but everyone calls her Brianna and it annoys her. My son is Holden and it's not to common here either.

DD15 wants to name her first girl Brenna. I love that name.

Abby/Abbie and Emma/Emily are really popular around here. They are very pretty names though! If I was lucky enough to have a girl, I think I'd like to name her Zoe.

Names I have as choices when I have kids when I am older:
- Aislinn [pronouned as Ace-lynn]
- Alice
- Emma
- Lilly
