My dd will be 8 this month and is asking for a baby doll. She isn't interested in American Girl dolls and likes a soft body with "real" arms and legs. Any suggestions? I would like a good quality one, but not extremely expensive.

would she like the bitty baby dolls from american girl? I don't know if they are soft bodied, but they are nice looking dolls. They also have the twins sets, they are babies, but have hair and you could pick the combination that you would like (2 boys, 2 girls, boy and girl, different hair colors).

My DD has a Fisher Price Little Mommy Sweet as Me doll that has her hair and eye color. They're fairly inexpensive ($15-20) and there's additional outfits to buy for around $12. We've had ours for 4 years I think and it's still in great condition (although well loved). I've seen them at TRU, Target, Walmart, Kohls, etc so they're pretty easy to find.

Cabbage patch babies might be an option too, they have newborns and older babies depending on what age she'd like. They should have lots of hair/eye color options also. :goodvibes

FYI if you call an AG store directly, you can buy just one Bitty Twin. I'd think that might be better than Bitty Baby, since they have hair and would provide more play options.

The Gotz Maxi Muffins (often at Tuesday Morning) are comparable quality/style to the Twins as well.

You want a Lee Middleton doll. They are the most realistic well made dolls I have ever seen and held. My DD has 2 of them and you would swear they were real babies when you look at them. In fact we used one at church in a Jerusalem scene and someone thought we had a real baby in the cradle!

They are weighted so it feels like you are holding a baby. They come in different sizes and prices. They aren't cheap but not outrageous for the quality. I have seen the smaller ones around $30 and the larger ones closer to $100. They do last. My DD is a senior and has had hers since about your DD's age and it is still beautiful. and she played with it a lot, it was never a display doll.
