Baby crib or pack n play in DVCs/ OKW

Hello. My little one (6 mo) needs his own place to sleep next week. What specifically do they have? I didn't take a good enough look last time we were there. I saw some sort of pack n play thing in the closet. What brand are they? Do they also have the basinet/ crib attachement so baby isn't all the way on the floor to sleep? Or, can you request a crib?

What about high chairs? Rocking chairs in the one bedrooms?

What survival techniques did you have with babies and being away from the bulky yet convienent items at home? Bouncy seats, activity saucers, etc. We plan on spending a good amount of time in our resort and room, and will need some good ideas.

By the way- he's not sitting up yet by himself, but rolling around like crazy.

We also plan to have his first haircut in the park!!! Any tips?

No rocking chairs. You will find a very basic pack and play in the closet as well as a wooden high chair.

Check out A Baby's Best Friend!! We have gotten a crib from them the last three times we have been at SSR. The website is www.abbf.com .

You can rent cribs, toys, or other baby things from them. It is not too late...I couldn't find my reservation a few weeks ago and I was able to rent in one day! Talk about service!!


As for the haircut, get there early! The line can get long. We had DS's first haircut there with Penny. She is wonderful!

When we stayed at OKW, our youngest was 15 mths. I was used to the pack n plays, but our 2 br was missing one. We called to ask for one to be brought to us, instead they brought a white metal crib. Our dd didn't sleep well in it. I think she kept rolling over and banging her head on the metal. In hindsight, I should have just pushed harder for a pack n play, since it has soft sides. Live and learn.

Hello fellow mommy of small children!!

1) Yes for the pack n play but no it does not have the bassinet insert. You can request the crib if you'd like but I've always stuck w/ the pack n play. i dont recall the brand but its very similar to the Graco that I have. What type of accommodation do you have and where are you staying? If you're in at least a 1 bedroom then the pack n play will even fit just fine in the Master closet (all but OKW) and in OKW it fits in the laundry room.

2) Yes there are highchairs in the rooms but no, not a rocking chair.

3) In June I was there w/ my 3 year old and 6 month old and I made room in the luggage for our Bumbo because he wasnt sitting in a high chair well yet. The Bumbo worked great! I would have loved to have an exersaucer but I didnt bring it or rent it! As mentioned above abbf.com has all kinds of items that would be great for your little one: exersaucer, bumbo, doorway jumper, etc.

4) I agree w/ the haircut idea at WDW!!! I wanted to do it back in June but the line was too long and my little guy was sleeping both times we went by Do indeed get there early!

We took DD for her first haircut at the park. We waited until she'd had her lunch and a nap so the line was quite long. DH wandered around the store with her whilst I waited in line, then I called him when it was our turn. She loved it.

We took her back this year for another haircut, this time after a character breakfast, so it was really early and there was no line at all. So definitely recommend going earlier.

We went this past Spring break, and we got my 18 months old daughter's haircut. It was priceless. They gave her a certificate and Mickey ears that said "first haircut". I went right when the afternoon parade was going on, and there was no line. So either go early in the morning or during parade times. Michael cut her hair and he was great.

The highchairs in the villas are the wooden ones often found in restaurants ... great if your little one is sitting up pretty well but not so great if they are a bit "wobbley" (SP?).

I had one of those shopping cart covers that worked really well and provided a bit of padding for our little one before he could sit on his own.

Love the Bumbo suggestion from a previous poster, what a great idea! We can't live without our Bumbo around here but never would have thought to take it on vacation. If you can make it fit in your suitcase that is probably your best solution!

Though the Bumbo is a bit big and doesnt collapse there is a lot of "storage" spaces for the suitcase! I had all kinds of clothing shoved in the bottom of it and in the top (where the kiddo sits) I had even more stuff....including a full can of formula! I couldnt have done w/out it because there was no way he was ready for the wooden high chair and I didnt want him rolling all over the floor all of the time!

Thanks for the rental info. I never even thought of that idea. We'll be bring our 3 month old down in feb and really would like to have a bouncy seat or swing. (we will also have a 5 and 3 yr old)

I also love the idea of the first haircut. We will be returning in the late fall, so maybe I will save that for Disney.

We took DS starting at 8.5 months. It was challenging, but do-able. Back then, cribs were more readily available at the resorts. The rooms come with a PNP (if it's not in your closet, they'll deliver one), but you can also request a full sized crib. Supposedly, all of the resorts have or are phasing them out and going mostly with PNP's, but seemingly there are reports of cribs being given out here and there. Based on that, we didn't want to risk it, so we rented from abbf. It was wonderful. The first time DS tried to sleep in a PNP was horrible. It was just a nightmare experience. DS did sleep in a PNP until he was about 6 months, but with the bassinet attachment too. Anyways, if you really want a good night's sleep, I highly recommend renting a nice crib. Many kids do very well with a PNP but there are some here and there (mine) who do not.

We did the first haircut too...it was a very nice experience! We went right at opening and had to wait about 5-6 other customers...there are usually 2 stylists there so you can sort of estimate how long it might take. I don't believe they are open other than say 10-5ish...banker's type hours, so beware of that as well.

Good luck...renting is a good way to go with such a little one and ensures the best comforts of home as you can.

PS - if you don't want to rent a high chair or have many options (padded insert etc.) available, you can always feed DC in their stroller--esp if it's full-sized with a tray. Just a thought...

We stayed at OKW last August and our granddaughter was 3 months old. We called housekeeping when we got our room and asked for a regular crib. They brought us a nice little white metal crib. They set it up for us and it was perfect. Also, we moved to the BCV mid trip and asked there too and they brought us this huge "hospital-type" metal crib too. I have been told that they only have a few cribs at the villas and it is first come, first serve. You can not call for one until you are actually in your room. So if you are comfortable with a PnP and call for a crib, you'll be OK. Also the only problem we had when we went that trip was giving her a bath, so we bought a baby tub that inflates and it worked great for traveling. Since she could not sit up this was an issue. She leave with us next week and is now 14 months old, so it will be a little easier than that trip. (This is her 3 trip now.)

I would also suggest bringing a crib sheet from home. Once years ago for oldest ds we had a crib with complete infant bedding including bumper pads. But the last time the crib had a folded up twin size sheet. Luckily I had brought an extra crib sheet from home for the late night sheet changes for my little "super reflux" guy!

Also have done the haircut-do it, do it, do it!
