Baby Chewing Crib To Bits - Advice Please!!!

We used to call #3 "Termite" for a reason when he was about a year old. The edges of coffee tables were one of his favorite "snacks". We stopped it by taking a concentrated cinnamon-flavored mouthwash, wetting a paper towel with it, and wiping the affected areas. It worked like a charm. My only regret is that I didn't have a camera in hand for the first time he got some of the cinnamon in his mouth! Priceless!

I realize this thread is old as **** but when googling what to do about toddler chewing on crib the first few said not to worry rub their gum try teething rings bla bla bla… well my situation isn’t just a few teeth marks … I HAVE 2 , 18 month old ANGRY LITTLE BEAVERS 🦫 🦫 😂 Maddison Marie & Michaela Lee 💕 they have both shredded their cribs I’ve tried to wrap all the railing with the bumpers.. toys to distract. Positive reinforcement you name it. Getting rid of the crib and baby proofing sounds scary.. but that’s the least of my worries I can’t leave the girls alone in the living room for more than 5 minutes without one of them pulling the others hair or biting! It’s out of control I don’t have the rooms in my house to put them in separate ones. -

suggestions help me please !!

This is a no-brainer that you've probably already tried, but do they have other chew items in the crib? If not, I think that should be your first step, things that they can safely chew instead, and that are more attractive than the crib itself.

I think that part of this is the larger question of whether they are chewing to relieve pressure on the gums, or chewing in an effort to escape. I suspect you do have a monitor cam in their room -- are they trying to climb and then chewing, or just chewing? If escape is the motivation, you have a bigger issue.

If you don't care about ruining the crib (and at this point it sounds like it already is), I'd do as the PP suggested and upholster it over plastic guards. Nailed-down canvas (don't use upholstery fabric that has a vinyl coating on the back) isn't nearly as much fun to try to chew as wood or smooth plastic, and the habit would probably be dropped quickly.

My mother told me I absolutely destroyed my crib. I chewed on it and she put soap on the parts I was chewing on to try and stop me. It didn't work. Instead I switched to jumping so much the crib broke and she managed to catch me by my sleeper before I landed in the pile of what once was my crib.

I'd invest in playpens and move them around, take turns moving them between the rooms, sometimes together and sometimes apart. It could be a lot of boredom, I'd shift attention to distraction at that age. Maybe one of those moving light projectors might help keep their minds busy? Nothing that could be stressful though, that will only cause more issues that will get bigger as they grow up and with two of them you'll always be outnumbered LOL.

People talk that Baltic Amber necklaces or bracelets would help from teething. But there are two sides' opinions - the first tells that this is bad for a child and the second claims that it helps from pain. I am not an expert, so I will share a link to an article about that. Maybe it will help but if it doesn't, then what do you think about it?

I would put them on mattresses on the floor that are in separate play yards.
