Hi everyone! I need help and in a hurry. We leave for disney in 19 days and I have a problem. I was hoping that my 15 month old would be walking by this point but it doesn't seem like that will be happening. I need to find a hip sling or something that will be comfortable for carrying her through lines without killing my neck. The problem is that I'm pooh sized 1x top and very large chested. I went to babies r us and target and they don't have anything that fits me. Do you have any suggestions?

Jamie

check out babyhawk.com .... it is my favorite carrier! i am also pooh sized and ordered extra-long straps. i use it a lot! have fun!

I'm worried that my back will hurt with all of the added weight of my daughter on my front since that is predominantly where I'm larger. Did you have a problem with this?

i have slipped discs in my neck and my mid back and i have no problem carrying my kids. i have carried my daughter for a whole day of disney times three! granted she was only 4 months old, but i am sure you can do a line without a problem.

you can also carry your child on your back. if you have someone to help you get the child in it is really easy.

i prefer a reguar ring sling I am also pooh sized and carried both kids till 36 months (not all the time of course) My son turned 3 in sept and I brought my chickenscratchsling.com withme. I have so many carriers and slings and I just love the comfort of this one. I have a few of hers. I love the soft stretch denim...it is not a heavy demin very light but the slight stretch is sooo comfortable......now all i need is a nother baby to carry lol

I have used a Catbirdbaby carrier- pikkolo. I am also pooh sized and large chested. This fits great. It is a buckle carrier. I can carry DS2 on my hip, front or on my back. It did buy the support belt that is extra but it is soo much better when they are heavier. DS loves to nap on my chest. We used it for our last 2 disney trips. I was going to buy an Ergo but when I tried them on at the store the straps kept falling off my shoulders-- think of a backpack worn on your chest instead of your back. They recommended the pikkolo-- soo glad I got it. We used it alot in Disney in 08 when we were there -- Tropical Storm Faye hit and we just decided to ditch the stroller at the room and I wore DS every day. The rain poncho worked great bc I had a slit in the front of it so DS had his own little window of the world.

I have dealt w/ The portable baby web site. Owner is great- quick service. I purchased the support belt from them and it arrived very quickly. Definitely check out the site -- she has a nice comparison write up on all the different types of structured carriers so you can see the pros/cons.

Good luck, any ?'s pm me

I would suggest the pikkolo or Ergo too. My bigger twin is 25 pounds, and it's still pretty comfortable to use the front carry for 20-25 minutes. The back carry is a breeze! I'm bigger (both around the waist and in the chest) as well, and bought the extended strap for the Ergo, and it works very well.

I suggest a Beco Butterfly 2 :) I have one, and I absolutely love it! It's sooo comfortable, even for me... a person with ankylosing spondylitis and fibromyalgia. I use it with my 17 month old all of the time. At this age, I wear her on my back way more than in the front. But it's so easy to put her on my back with the Beco Butterfly, it's like putting a backpack on. I'm a 2x, with a very large chest, and it fits me great!

I agree with all the PP, but OP check out thebabywearer.com for some more info on different carriers and there's even a FSOT board where you can get great carriers used!! My first carrier was a used Babyhawk and I still use it occasionally for my 2 year old! Also, you'll probably want something with buckles instead of straps for the constant up/down/up/down...it will be easier and quicker. :thumbsup2

My son was 14 months old and not walking for his first trip so I brought along a pouch sling. I went to a store that specialized in slings and wraps, and they fitted me and showed me how to use it. I didn't use it often but it was a life saver during really long lines.

Thank you so much for all of your responses. I check all of those site out. I'll be in Columbus, OH this weekend and am planning on checking out some baby specialty stores to find one that fits me properly.

I agree with the Beco or a Ergo
I like the Beco better since it is taller and I don't feel like they are going to fall out if you have one that likes to flip back like mine did ;)
I wore my 2yr old a lot at Disney with now problems if you have someone to help get your little one on your back it is a breeze

I wore my 26 month old (who was 33lbs) in a Ergo for our Disney trip. The one day is 10 hours of lugging him around. I wore him on my back, and at the end of the day I was not sore. I would recommend it completly.

We've been through everything from a Moby, Maya, Hotslings, to an Ergo, a BabyHawk, ToddlerHawk, Obi, and even the older gen Beco's.... but we :lovestruc our Beco Butterfly II. As a pp mentioned, it offers a longer back option compared to the Ergo - and since boys our boys like to back flip - it's safer. Both DH and I love the easy on for the back carry (basically, it's like tossing on a backpack).

However, if your little one is close to walking - standing in lines can be a great motivator! Between all the bars, which offer perfect walking supports, to other little ones in front and behind, you should be able to get away without a carrier. Just my opinion... but I think it's doable. It will also save you from the on and off of a carrier - unless you opt for a sling, which is by far the fastest for in/out.

There is a knockoff on Ebay of the Ergo that works great IMO. I've had it for a year with no problems, and it was only $25-ish. I like it because I can use it as a front or back carrier. Whatever carrier you choose, use it as much as possible before you go to build your body up to it. Good luck!

I loved the Peanut Shell carrier, but I think the only option is ordering on-line. It comes in different sizes to fit the wearer, and can be used in a variety of ways - from little babies to toddlers. The website explains it, and has instructions. Good luck!!

I just ordered a Boba for our FL trip next month with my 20 month old. They're really new, came out a few months ago, but I've read some really great mom reviews about them. Plus, they're cheaper than the Ergo and Beco. And if you google it, you can probably find a 10% off discount. Have fun!

I have a Peanut Shell, I only used it when my little one was younger. But, OP, if you're interested and don't want to buy one... I can send it to you (free). I have no use for it! It is solid brown on one side, and has pink circles on the other (it's reversible). It would fit you (they come in sizes), since you said you're a 1x.
