We'd like to bring a baby carrier to make going on/off the rides a little easier while he needs to sleep. I've heard good comments about Becco carriers, but they don't carry face forward and we might want this as an option.

Any suggestions for comfortable carriers that face forward?

He'll be 22lbs and 8 months old when we travel.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I don't have any suggestions other than we have a Beco and it's wonderful. Maybe you could use the hip carry instead of facing out? The new Butterfly carriers don't work for hip but the 4th generation ones do. That's the one we have. Just thought I'd offer that as a suggestion! We used ours a ton a few weeks ago. My DD just turned two though but she is 26 pounds. What I loved most about it was it rolls up like a fanny pack when you aren't using it so for example when we'd get to the ride, i'd take her out during loading, roll up the pack, and then immediately put her back in after the ride. That way I didn't have to take the whole thing off an on. I didn't know about that feature until after we bought it. Ok wel I know you wanted other opinions besides Beco so I'll stop talking about, lol. I just love it!

We have an Ergo baby carrier and love it. There are three positions you can use with it too. Forward facing, back carry and hip carry.

When my son was 15 months old (and 30lbs) we went to Hawaii and I used it every day to hike with him. He loved the front carry position and he would often take naps on my chest while we hiked or I shopped. It never once hurt my back and he was a big heavy boy (and still it ;) )

I plan to use the Ergo when we go to Disney in September. In fact, knowing my son we'll probably use it more than the stroller :upsidedow

Thanks for the information. I had no idea about how it folded so nicely! What's the hip carry?

The hip carry is just as it sounds. You carry them on your hip in the carrier so they aren't in the front facing you or on your back. That way your son can still see what's going on without having to turn his head around or trying to peek over your shoulder. My DD is tall enough that she could see over my shoulder. I can't say my DD has ever used the hip carry because for that I just used my hotsling but the hotsling is not nearly as comfortable when they get heavier. Hope this helps!

For an eight month old it might be best to get a Hip Hammock (Playtex, if I remember correctly). The child rides on the hip and it takes a lot of weight of your back. It would also be a great investment now because your child won't be in a carrier much longer and the Hip Hammock is cheap. We used it the last couple of times we went and it was great! Whatever you think you might want, make sure you try it in the store because everyone's different!

Try http://www.thebabywearer.com/forum/ for reviews of all kinds of baby carriers. My favorite type of carrier was a Mei Tai. There are tons of brands Kozy was my all time favorite for day to day use. There are also some made of light weight quick drying material that is great for hot days or even at the pool/water park. I had a Sachi made of solarveil material that was awsome for hot wet days. I think you have to register (free) at thebabywearer to read the message boards but totally worth it. Their message boards are set up just like this one and very friendly. I'm sure if you ask there you will get tons of replies.

We love our Ergo!! My DD is almost 22 months old and 21 pounds so still tiny but even so you can't feel her weight at all in it! We use it every day while walking ,u oldest DD to and from school.

I usually wear her on my back and sometimes on my front. It is true that you can't have them front facing though which stinks! I know she would love that more when I wear her on my front.

But we only do front carrying when the weather is nastier or she is bundled up more and then it is too hard to get her on my back by myself. We haven't tried the hip carry yet though.

My Ds is 6mo and 24lbs, I HATE the Playtex Hip Hammock. We have a evenflo baby carrier. It is not my favorite, but it works and goes to 32lbs.
